i was really trying to postpone this update with the hopes that i’ll figure a way to deal with my workload, but with having 30+ pages to read every day, along with various assignments, activity on this and my other blog will drop; i will lurk on the dash during breaks, and will focus mostly on memes and headcanons, replies to ims/discord will be painfully slow.
It is my LOOK they will flinch from now, my FROWN that they must fear. I am a LION too.

love thinking about all the symbols of legitimacy the hightowers used during aegon's coronation ( aegon's crown, aegon's sword, being anointed by the septon ), and how they purposefully did everything 'by the book', considering how nothing about said coronation is legitimate, especially the illegitimate means that happen behind the curtain ( the murder of lord caswell, the murder of lyman 🐝sburry ), hammering home how important appearance is to the common folk + how it really is all a big chess game, if you know the rules and how to manipulate them, you're likely to gain support +++ love thinking about how years later, margaery and the tyrell's focus is EXACTLY on said appearances, none of the small folks care that the tyrells supported renly, here they are saving them from hunger, and here margaery is interacting with them!

HOTD’s focus on brothers ... second sons ... siblings ...
one of the most central themes in asoiaf is ... family; peel back the existential threat, the political restructuring of the landscape, the questions of morality and amorality, the idea of power and crowns and kings and pawns and schemes, and you'll arrive at ... family — the love and hate and the entire spectrum of emotions directed at and stemming from being part of a family; it's a story about the love we bear our siblings and parents, the trauma they inflict, the estrangement from, the reunion with — it's all about family.

so ... i usually tend to stick to being faceclaim-less or just resort to natalie because it’s easier but -- margaery tyrell ? and she fits so well with my loras recast, i’m - ... book!margaery ...
the concept of marriage is important for margaery’s journey as a character — not only as a chance to establish a union between houses, but as a way to combine customs and traditions, to unite highgarden customs with the customs of whatever house she’s marrying into, thus heralding a new era ( and why the imagery of spring and flowers is equally as important : the birth of novel ideas, a new beginning ) ... ultimately in an attempt to bring people closer. my characterisation hinges strongly on margaery’s relationship with the small folk, and exactly through these traditions is she capable of managing that — she merges the past ( order, duty, tradition ) with her own vision and her own experiences, in a way making the transition to a new era more easily accepted. i believe margaery would find ways to incorporate different customs ( we actually see her doing that in the show, her crown is an amalgamation of baratheon symbolism with that of the tyrells ), and that makes her flexible, and again, not to put the show in such strong focus, but we see this flexibility in her wardrobe — gossamer shawls, but also the funnel dress, which signals her openness to novelty and experimentation. she’s adaptable ( the green reed which bends in the wind is stronger than the mighty oak which breaks in a storm ), but not to the point where she’s ready to sacrifice her identity as a tyrell.
oathworn.
he wonders what life would have been like had he’d been raised in winterfell. jon hears things, has learned life there is vastly different. in the past years since he’d been a young boy, he’s only known life in highgarden and what it’s like to be raised with tyrells. they are kind to him, treat him not like a snow but someone who belongs with them. he likes it here. but that does not stop the occasional thought of what it would be like raised by the ones whose name would never be his. mind wanders, yet he’s brought out of his thoughts after some time once he realizes he’s no longer alone.
❝ lady olenna scolded me earlier. ❞ he speaks first, because if she beats him to it and ask him what plagues his mind, he would hate to have that conversation. the last thing he could ever want is for hosue tyrell to believe he is not grateful to them for the comfort and care they provide him. ❝ ghost tracked mud though the halls. ❞ and there is a hint of a smile that glazes over his features. the dire wolf is the only connection he has to his roots – such a troublesome creature he could be at times.
@tyvell , plotted.
margaery tyrell still remembers the day jon snow had arrived in highgarden : a day seized by the fresh greens of springtime, bright and emerald and full of a childish wonder that had her peering from her mother’s skirts. she had expected to see a boy emerge from the candlelit fairy tales her wet nurse had told her and her brothers – tales of ghosts and ghouls, of giants and the others, of ice-forged determination and lightning-flayed skies, of men hardened by frost-whipped winds, under whose skin the wolves howled. but what she saw was a boy with the chill of winter still clinging to his bones, and the glimmer of black ice shimmering behind his gaze, as though all thoughts and feelings had frozen over into something indiscernible, and she feared she would slip if she were to continue staring. she had wondered at the time … how many southern suns it would take to thaw the snow from his hair, and sprout a smile on his lips.
❝ jon! ❞ though admonishing, her voice belied her trademark smile. ❝ now what will my sweet lady grandmother have to say when it is we who track mud all over her halls? ❞ it was years of honed discipline that stopped mischief from dimpling her cheeks further, and swan-like, she slid an arm around his. ❝ and before you say anything, allow me to remind you it is not very mannerly to refuse a lady – ❞ her tongue was practiced in the arts of politics, yet she could not help the gentle tease from folding between her words. ❝ – i have already arranged for our horses to be prepared, you’re yet to tell me if you’ve decided on a name for your horse. ❞
you can pry this out of my cold dead hands but m.argaery t.yrell is a master at crafting a political image which manipulates the attitude of the commonfolk in regards to the crown ; there’s a huge rift between the crown and the people & she’s trying her best to bridge that gap in order to condition the people to associate the crown with good acts and to make the relationship a personal one . all her actions are calculated .
she gave her custom to a dozen different seamstresses , was well-known amongst the city’s goldsmiths , and had even been known to visit the fish market by the mud gate for a look at the day’s catch . [ … ] she was forever giving alms to beggars , buying hot pies off bakers’ carts , and reining up to speak to common tradesmen .
do you know who else did that on their arrival to king’s landing ? t.yrion . my point is politics isn’t just about who’s the most feared , the most powerful , or the best logician . it’s about the people . t.yrion & m.argaery create job opportunities while simultaneously strategically projecting this public image of goodness & care ( although t.yrion wasn’t as public about it as m.argaery ) . all her actions convey a specific message : you are seen , you , who have gone unnoticed & unnamed in the history books – i see you , i care . & she does that not only through her actions but constructing her public image based off symbolism very close to the people – from the Faith . she started her journey as the picture of the Maiden , and i’d argue that later in the books she’s started trying to don the role of the Mother , sure , she doesn’t have children , but she treats the people of kl as her own kin .
@azmenka said : “ people tend to act in ways that suit their own best interests ”
“ can we truly blame the hammer for viewing everything as a nail? ” and so it began : petals of all shapes and sizes shivered below her soft touch as nimble fingers combed through the hanging branches, leaving a contrail of pink and white in her wake. for one moment their frames disappeared in a flowerstorm, a shower of apple blossoms that bracketed them in a fragrant privacy of her own making, a baptism in the heart of spring, where innocence was restored if only for a moment. and a moment after, her soft brown eyes met those of blue and margaery tyrell saw her reflection marooned on a black shore engulfed by a storm-torn sea. “ I should believe even the best and the worst of us act in ways that suit their own best interest – kings, knights, knaves and cowards – it would be foolish to think otherwise. ” discipline fastened a smile upon her timid lips. “ and yet it can also drive a man to madness, ” and now margaery leaned close with an almost conspiratorial air to her movements, sending the petals caught in her hair into a lazy spiral between them. “ you would shudder at the stories i’ve heard. ”

much like t. yrion, mar.gaery draws great inspiration from history and tries to fashion herself as an amalgamation of past successful rulers. however there is one queen mar.gaery holds to the highest regard and whom she actually views as a role model, and that's queen aly.ssane tar.garyan. following in her footsteps, mar.gaery tries her best to establish a good raport with the common folk, to give the crown a face and personality they can associate with outside of the soulless, absract idealisation of the title and position of ruler, and to build a legacy that’ll succeed her, and thus keep her family name in the records of history.
