I had a fun time drawing this one because of all the golds✨ Anyways, I have decided to set the size of my works in a uniform 5" by 7" (book size) from now on so it would be easier to adjust for my Redbubble shop (or, in case, for anyone who might take an interest for a license jk😉)

WIP I’m finally getting around to doing that iconic “I hate you” scene from The Wicked King. This is at about the halfway point, where I’ve only got the lighting blocked in and nothing is coloured yet, but for some reason I always like how things look at this stage

Fan art is born of love. Of all the scenes in Holly Black’s spellbinding novels, the Queen of Mirth from The Wicked King might be my favourite 🖤 It’s the scene that drew me into the world of YA fantasy two years ago (which is when started this piece — I can’t believe it took me this long to finally colour it!)

Jude Duarte and Cardan Greenbriar as I imagine them: Jude is focused and a little cross; Cardan is watching her carefully and trying to look like he’s not 🖤  I’m experimenting with skipping the watercolour step and going full digital colour. The pro: it’s faster. The con: you don’t get quite the same organic texture. I kept the restrained colour palette that I generally prefer, and tried to get at least some texture from the pencil crayon and the paper itself. It’s a different look, but it’s growing on me! Next time I might try adding more pencil texture to the background.

I couldn’t resist finishing this drawing of Cardan because I am in love with his outfit. Feathers are fabulous and  no one can convince me otherwise. I promise I’ll move on after this, though
