Using GPT-4 to automatically generate help articles Cratecode!

AI can be a spectacular tool for automation — when used correctly. Pictured below is a short article about using JavaScript to create HTML elements on the fly, written completely by AI. First, I asked the AI assistant to help me with doing a task like this, and it gave me a brief explanation, then linked to a URL that didn't exist: https://cratecode.com/info/javascript-create-element.

Navigating to that page, GPT-4 was again used to generate it. However, the article was only available to me (private) at that point (we don't want to publish articles that haven't been reviewed). I looked it over, then I (as an administrator) approved the article and published it. And here it is, a fully AI-generated article from start-to-finish!

One of the great things about this technique is that we can generate articles for problems that users are actually facing, instead of scouring the internet for content to mine. "The Eater"

It looks like a big mouth to me. It also "repeats" infinitely down with more and more "eaters". Creepy.

"Old Target"

I was pretty surprised by how this one seemed almost "realistic". It's a nice contrast to a lot of the more crazy images.

"The Teeth"

This one just creeps me out. Also, like the single tooth, these go on for quite a while to the left (so there's probably several hundred "teeth", but I didn't actually count) before ending abruptly.

I'm not sure what this represents? Eyes? 1984? Up to you.

This one looks a lot like a very strange neuron to me. The coloring also makes it feel like something from a Dr. Seuss book. The eye in the middle creeps me out though.

"Valley Mountain"

The "Mountain" part of this name is hopefully pretty obvious. I added the "Valley" because it has a little part (the transition between red/orange and blue/green) that goes down infinitely, then comes up. "Valley Mountain" is also a fun oxymoron of sorts.

Some sort of ritual? If you zoom in, there aren't too many solid lines, just a ton of single pixels in a sea of black. I really like the effect that it gives to this one.

I tried adding a 3D effect to this rendering. It uses a height map based on the abs of the output number, and that height map is processed by GIMP's Lighting Effects. I'm not super familiar with this, so there should be decent room for improvement.

Some sort of terrible, cosmic-horror-scale worm. It reminds me a lot of the "Eater of Worlds" from Terraria.

Here's an animation that modifies the function, rather than the viewport. It linearly animates n from 0 to 1, and uses a few iterations of lerp(f(x), f'(x), n). The image quality seems to be a little bit better because of the solid black background.

I tried out a simple animation for this rendering. I have some good (but unfinished) animations that animate the function, and not just the viewport.

I still haven't figured out how to increase the image quality without Tumblr rejecting it, but it's good enough.

I really like the animation here. The most I've done in terms of animation is changing the starting value of the Mandelbrot set. I decided to give it a try with one of my own images. My renderer (and function generator) weren't built with animation in mind, so I wasn't totally sure how it would turn out, but it did not disappoint!

I need to figure out how to increase the image quality. My renders are fine, but Tumbler doesn't seem to support better image formats.

In any case, this is more of a test than a final result. I built the animator so that it animates using parametric functions, but this one just uses f(x)=x. I might try something more interesting (like a circle), and see if I can create a seamless animation (I just need to animate along a closed curve).

I was really surprised with how clean this one turned out. It almost reminds me of sound waves, in some strange way.

"Sweet Tooth"

It actually doesn't go on forever. The "legs" of the tooth end at some point. They still have little eyes on them until that point, though.

I have another "teeth" image that uses the same function. This version was made by turning the iteration count way up.

"Striped Noise"

This is one of my all-time favorites. It's also one of the oldest renderings I've made.

It's so old that the original was made in Desmos (graphing calculator). Take a look (it'll probably take a few minutes to load on a PC, not sure about phones):

I like how this rendering feels pretty flat and simplistic on a first glance, but still has a lot of the weirdness found in other renderings. It reminds me of some sort of totem pole.
