Build Your Wealth: Graduate from a Paycheck Mentality to a Net Worth Mentality | The Art of Manliness
This is my current pipe and tobacco collection. Well, most of my pipes, one is MIA in NC and a few need new stems.
The majority of my pipes are Peterson, I got lucky on an estate sale and went all out to get my prized British Racing Green pipe from Ireland.
I only have briar pipes, not lucky enough to have anything else.
When I first started pipe smoking about 5 years ago I took a class and the guy showed me how to pack a bowl, light it, clean it, and insisted that I only ever use briar because “pair wood cracks, cob pipes are cheap, and meerschaum discolors”
Looking back, that man was basically an asshole.
Regardless this has become quite the hobby. I’m still learning what blends I enjoy and at what times.
I’m not an everyday smoker, a few times a month at most. It’s a treat and time to relax. I think I’d be a few times a week if we didn’t live in a no smoking building.
I will say this - my closet smells amazing. I know most people think of tobacco smelling like lit cigarettes or cigars but it’s not at all like that.
It smells almost leathery and sweet.
I didn’t know you could age it further but some of the stuff that comes a little wetter than others really sets up nicely after a year or so.
I have really learned a lot browsing the pipe community on tumblr and am really appreciative of the folks that have helped me get my setup going. I had no idea even how to store tobacco that didn’t come in a tin until recently.
So this post is really about how far I’ve come from one briar pipe and a tin of Peterson aromatic to a nice collection of both briar and tobacco.
JACOB MAY HEIRLOOM CUTTING BOARD - BLACK WALNUT
Your fences need to be horse-high, pig-tight and bull-strong. Keep skunks and bankers at a distance. Life is simpler when you plow around the stump. A bumble bee is considerably faster than a John Deere tractor. Words that soak into your ears are whispered… not yelled. Meanness don’t...

Mahogany Trestle Table
by Addington Furniture
It took me about 100 hours to build this mahogany table by hand (with the exception of the cove molding). The base is finished with Osmo oil/wax. The top is finished with candlelight oil, then a sanding sealer, then pore filler, three coats of 50/50 mineral spirits/urethane, three full coats of urethane, and a French polishing buffing compound.
The joinery consists of drawbored mortise & tenons and through wedged mortise & tenons. All hand cut and chopped. All of the curves and heavy chamfers were made with a spokeshave. A 50° pitch smooth plane left the final surface on all flat areas and the spokeshave for the curved.
Beautiful native american wisdom. I first heard this tale in a native american course at uni
Sorry guys, that story was made up by white dudes in the 1970s and has been attributed to basically every Native American culture under the sun: http://tithenai.tumblr.com/post/17655980732/the-history-of-the-two-wolves-two-dogs-story
