The word awesome is like slay for bi guys
Very stupid that I can't take the muscles out of my neck & upper back & beat them with a meat tenderizer. I think that would fix me
The crux of the anti trans movement is a war on bodily autonomy. They don't want you to have any agency over what you look like, how you dress, who you date, whether to have kids, etc.
They want total control over you. Not just trans people. Not just queer people. You. Everyone.
Trans people are just a scapegoat. They want total control over everyone's self expression. They want the right to mold you into their perfect little cog in their dehumanizing machine.
Happy Trans Day of Visibility. Our rights are your rights. Our destruction is your destruction.
HP fans: wow, the author of our favorite books is a horrible person…but we can’t just drop her and her works! they’re integral to our formative years and our identity! even though we’ve known for a literal decade about this woman’s shitty-ness and had all this time to move on from it
(former) NG fans: sounds like a skill issue to me
*looks at the Good Omens fandom*
Uh huh.
Also I'll give up my trans-supporting, trans-affirming, trans-friendly community when you give me an alternative.
It is fucking bullshit to expect trans people to give up support because of the actions of one woman.
It's not even about like... 'alternatives'. Expecting people to give up harmless enjoyment of a simple, neutral hobby like engaging with a book because of moral outrage to its author is social puritanism and censorship.
The expectation that peoples interests should be 'pure' in not only the content of the work itself but the people who happened to create it - or else be labelled bad actors by association - is dangerous. That's 'degenerate art' rhetoric.
'We've known for a literal decade about this woman’s shitty-ness and had all this time to move on from it' - treating that like some sort of time limit countdown for people to... what? Mourn the loss of a narrative like its a dead person? That's just... weird. 'tick tock - the author slipped up, time to pack away your stuff before you start to look bad.'
Does this rule go for the people actively engaged with spreading the truth about the authors shitty behaviour? Does it go for the queer fans who were part of the initial waves of "Ban Harry Potter - all the queer kids like it because it has queer themes!" of the 2000s? Does it go for the large amount of young trans fans of today? Does it go for the literal children getting into it - because its a highly marketed children's book series?
Distancing yourself from a fictional thing because of it's authors actions doesn't help anyone. It doesn't spread awareness, it doesn't aid trans people - it's just a performative signal to preen your own feathers with. And also licks JKR's toes. She wants people who have an issue with her to fuck off out of the spaces she can have control over so her ideology can take root. With such heavy cultural presence and a big new TV series on the way - thats a dangerous thing to let her have simply out of spite.
Not giving JKR and, more importantly Warner Bros. (they're the ones thinking up and paying for more HP shit to exist to fuel themselves, the ones making the money for JKR - and are also shitty to workers, the environment, LGBTQ+ and POC people etc - yet because they aren't a singular hateable face they aren't mentioned nearly as much as they should be) any money is important. Policing interests doesn't do jack shit.
'Talking about HP at all risks getting new fans to give them money' (says my handy little strawman) - the fact its got five theme parks, a new TV series, is in every single book shop, library, school and most homes is what is getting more money into their hands. Fandom awareness is the only way to actually teach people about the bad shit she does. New fans who face backlash for liking a kids book are just going to ignore it in favor of their new love, and find support groups within TERFs. Eugh.
HP's reputation is so strong that people say it will end up a "classic". it's hard to wish the author out of relevance... i think it is so so important that tons of fans with visible internet presences condemn her lobbying, her public statements ... and raise awareness — that's how i learned about her attacks on trans rights. that's when i was convinced to never to spend a cent on hp merch. accounts with "anti-jkr" in their bios may not be peak trans advocacy but it lowkey works. the more sophisticated stuff can come later. if trans and trans ally fans drop hp or stay silent, that only leaves terfs, fence-sitters, new or young fans, and people who never knew/cared about her advocacy in the first place. i'd rather have her fandom be filled with allies, to dilute the power she has over how people treat her ip. i don't want jkr to create a fan-to-terf pipeline.
xx trans people deserve rights and dignity.
Ngl still don't really know how to draw this guy

Kingsley Shacklebolt thoughts? 🤔
and on Kingsley/Sirius, /Remus, /Voldemort? im really interested in your opinion, i trust you all my ao3 history!
thank you very much for the ask, anon!
sirius black/kingsley shacklebolt is here and kingsley shacklebolt/lord voldemort is here.
when it comes to remus lupin/kingsley shacklebolt, we have to say... canon.
obviously, we've all clocked that there's something bubbling under the surface with sirius and kingsley in order of the phoenix - that quibbler gift is the most romantic "sending each other a meme and going lol, that's you" in literary history, i fear - but this has led us to miss that there's even more simmering sexual tension between kingsley and lupin.
i mean... kingsley's first line in the series - "yeah, i see what you mean, remus. he looks exactly like james." - is evidence of pillow talk if ever i've seen it, especially because literally minutes later kingsley also mentions to harry that "remus says you're a good flier".
[kingsley also comes to lupin with his concerns about why dumbledore didn't make harry a prefect, which strongly suggests that his new relationship rose-tinted glasses mean he's mistakenly of the opinion that lupin isn't the deadbeat half of the wolfstar divorce...]
they're forced long distance in half-blood prince - kingsley's in downing street, lupin's in greyback's hell lair - which is why lupin's staring miserably at the fire while celestine warbeck sings about cauldrons of hot, strong love.
and then in deathly hallows, not only do we have the inherently sexy premise of them both being key parts of potterwatch [there was only one recording booth...], we also have the revelation that dumbledore decided to deploy a magnificent third wheel on them both as soon as they were reunited:
Over Hermione's shoulder Harry saw him raise his wand and point it at Lupin's chest. "The last words Albus Dumbledore spoke to the pair of us?" "'Harry is the best hope we have. Trust him'," said Lupin calmly.
followed by bill doing exactly the same thing after moody's death:
Lupin had turned away from him, set down his glass upon a side table, and addressed Bill, "There's work to do. I can ask Kingsley whether -" "No," said Bill at once, "I'll do it, I'll come."
undeniable.
Has this been done yet?
me five shots deep: no, no, you don't understand. the point is all the main couples mirror each other. nina and matthias are child soldiers loyal to their country above almost everything else. jesper and wylan have low self esteems, fathers deeply important to the narrative, and are fundamentally mommas' boys. and kaz and inej-
the person trying to fuck me at the bar, nodding: -are the two deadliest people in the barrel and they can't even touch each other without keeling over.
me: exactly! and one more thing-
sorry i’m just thinking again about kaz brekker, perpetual cynic, and his surprisingly optimistic view of fathers and sons. just. kaz knowing that the one thing that would ruin pekka rollins, the man he hates more than anything, who he couldn’t think less of, would be to threaten the safety of his son. kaz telling jesper that his father cares more about him than any farm. kaz saying “call me sentimental, but i didn’t believe a father could be so callous.” kaz’s fatal misunderstanding of van eck being that he couldn’t conceive of a world in which fathers don’t love their sons. thinking about what all this says about kaz’s own father, and everything he lost before he and jordie ever stepped foot in ketterdam.
i actually need to know people's thoughts on this because at least in my experience the answer to this has drastically changed since i was on tumblr in the 2010s and its driving me fucking insane
what's the appropriate way to engage with a fandom take you disagree with on tumblr?
voice your disagreement in the replies
voice your disagreement in a reblog addition
shrug and move on
vaguepost and complain about it on your own blog but dont engage directly
send it to a trusted moot and vent about your frustrations about it in private
bald / nuance / see results
*im talking about fandom takes specifically. not someone being horribly evil about a real-life issue or or blatantly factually incorrect. literally just harmless fandom disagreements or differing interpretations of a text/character/etc.
i need you dorks to REBLOG this if you voted.... i already know my circle of moots and i have the same opinion i need this to spread across fandoms to get a real accurate sample of sufficient size COME ON!!!!!! and love and kisses to everyone reblogging and leaving their thoughts in the tags <3 muah muah xoxo
In my eyes, a reblog makes the post your post. Your addition isn't adding to theirs, it's making an alternative version that is yours.
They don't HAVE to reply to your reblog. It's not personal. They can just shrug and ignore it - that's perfectly fine. We have our own blogs specifically to yap into the wind, and so reblogging to voice a disagreement is yapping to the wind.
If it starts a conversation or discussion, with OP or anyone else - that's fandom. That's what fandom is. Engaging with ideas and making a library of our own takes to discuss.
But this means you can't drag OP into a discussion about their take. You are replying to what they have put publicly into the wind - but you shouldn't expect them to respond to it if they don't want to. They yap about what they want, you yap about what you want.
They have some garbage takes? Some of your takes will be garbage too. Guaranteed. You can disagree and have a cool discussion about those disagreements. You can use it to work out your own preferred take by bouncing off what you don't like in theirs. I don't see what is inappropriate about that. Just don't be mean.
Honestly seeing people say 'shrug and move on' makes me kinda sad. What happened to relishing differences of opinion and engaging with readings? What happened to getting passionate? :^(
How friendly were Sirius and Remus? (1971 - 1981)
(Part 1, maybe...?) With so much fan work set in the 1970s - and Wolfstar in general being popular - it's easy to forget/misremember little details. So… I wanted to scrounge up those little details to form a reading of their relationship I feel confident in. (Some quotes have bold - my emphasis. Emphasizing makes me happy.) (3800 words approx.)
I bet that the first month of his Hogwarts job Remus woke up feeling terrified of going to speak in front of people and stressed out about the possibility of forgetting everything he was going to say. and then ended up having lots of fun and thinking that he couldnt wait to do it again tomorrow
This is so cute
He turns up a little late to his first lesson with the third years, because he was up late rehearsing knows all their names already because he was so nervous about getting them mixed up Makes sure to impress them with his cheeky charms and poltergeist control, because he has been practicing everything His class is a little chaotic and poorly planned (doesn't give everyone a turn, didn't think ahead to the consequences of some of the kids in the room, didn't think ahead to his own identity safety) He hands out points like candy at the end of Sunday school, everyone gets points for existing, he's desperate to make a good impression
Later in the year - his lessons are far more structured, he loves bringing in real examples of what he is teaching and planning practical lessons where he has as much fun as the kids... He drinks in their little eyes gleaming up at him excitedly. That he is being admired and liked. He is being chosen, he is preferred over other teachers, his expertise is proving useful and he can geek out about it.
Clashes horribly with his belief he is a monster that shouldn't even be there. He can't handle thinking about his condition, the cognitive dissonance gets too grating. He forgets his potions because it is so much easier to plan his next lesson than keep track of managing the rot in his blood, the stain on his soul that proves him unworthy.
harry is gryffindor red with green eyes, and voldemort is slytherin green with red eyes. which reflects harry's capacity for cunning and voldemort's sense of valor. some yin yang stuff. also they're like inside each other or something.
Did people who say that "Snape did absolutely everything only for Lily so all his effort and sacrifice doesn't count because it was selfish" miss the part where he... like... sent Lily's son to die because it was the only way to defeat Voldemort?
Not to say that I find condemning a charachter for doing noble things for the person he loves and mourns, and not for some abstract world justice, pretty shallow and morally purist either way; and considering that Lily wasn't a part of Severus' life at any point of his redemption arc, his motivated by Lily actions can't possibly be called selfish, since he had absolutely no personal gain from them; but the thing is that a literal culmination of Snape's arc is having to betray Lily's legacy to win the war. And he makes the choice to win the war, despite being horrified by what Albus had asked of him, and despite having no one but his consciousness to control what he does.
Few characters have made choices as strongly based on purely anti-Voldemort aspirations as the one Snape made.
