Where would my blog be without an image of a naked Gonzo?
The Criterion Collection edition of Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me is so nice (those deleted scenes were a goddamn holy grail and I can’t believe I’m really seeing them) that it made me want to get back into collecting Criterions, which is making me happy and reminding me just how much I love film as an art form, but it’s also giving me these weird feelings of existential dread related to the fact that it was two decades and a full half my lifetime ago when I first got really into these. I hate it. Oh well, that Elephant Man release they just added to the slate sure looks great.
Yesterday, I came to the conclusion that David Lynch has/had some kind of cougar fetish. Kind of like Tarantino’s foot fetish, but he’s just slightly less clumsy and blatant about shoving it into his work.
But think about it. Just off the top of my head without having seen most of his films recently, you’ve got at least Eraserhead, Blue Velvet, Wild At Heart, Lost Highway, and multiple Twin Peaks plotlines (not sure which ones he was involved in tho) all featuring scenes where a woman either has an affair with a younger guy, or corners him in an attempt to initiate one and then overreacts when he shoots her down. I doubt I’m the first person to notice it but if you see it now, is it really possible to unsee it?
Tune in next time for my hella obvious theory about Akira Toriyama’s attitude towards vore
Probably redundant but I love how the people who spent the past decade-plus talking about armed-revolution-because-authority-figures-are-inherently-corrupt and defining their personalities around (their misconception of) V For Vendetta and being generally anti-government are suddenly going “NO NOT LIKE THAT” and quite literally praying for the cops’ and president’s safety
Oops.

people referring to things they don’t like as a ‘fad’ fascinates me
I had someone insist a few years ago that Rocky Horror Picture Show’s cult popularity is just a fad that will pass soon. Same for anime being watched in the west. And it’s just, like, did you only now discover this thing that’s been happening for decades or do you just not know what words mean?
lol yesterday my entire office was having a discussion right next to me where every one of them was in agreement with each other that they are anti-LGBTQ rights because “those people want to make it legal to have sex with children and animals” and that “if we give them the right to marry or choose what bathroom they go to, then it sets precedent and what will we have to give them next?”
Hell-oooo toxic workplace environment.
