what did he know
as one direction once said…. “don’t forget where you belong. hhhOoOoooooomeeeee”
hey y’all…. long time no see…
I did it because I think I loved you. Because I think I still do. And because I knew how happy you could be — so much happier than I ever could — but how tied down you were by your own fear and guilt. And that I don’t think you ever really wanted my friendship, so I gave the best thing I could. The thing you really wanted to take anyway, I think.
THOROUGHBREDS (2017) dir. Cory Finley
Attack The Block (2011) // Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015) // Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017) // Pacific Rim: Uprising (2018)
one of my favorite moments in Attack the Block is when the nurse realizes that Moses is only 15 years old. During the whole movie she thought he was much older, that he was a criminal through and through, and then she realizes that he’s just a frightened kid left to his own devices. the viewer may also think that Moses is older (i personally thought he was 17), and this revelation is heartbreaking because we realize that despite his fearless leader attitude, he’s just a child basically living on his own, pretending to not be scared or insecure.
imo this scene highlights how black children are often perceived as older and more mature than they really are, which negatively impact the way people treat them.
Hidden Animation ~ J’ai perdu mon corps (I lost my body), dir. Jérémy Clapin (2019). J’ai perdu mon corps is a long-length animated movie which received the highest distinction (Cristal du long métrage) at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival in 2019. It tells the story of a disembodied hand in search of its body, young Naoufel. The storytelling is split in two : the hand’s quest and Naoufel’s life as he falls in love with Gabrielle and how it changes his life. Scenery and art style are both urban and poetic, showcasing the city of Paris, its subway lines and its apartment buildings.

Dani, do you feel held by him? Does he feel like home to you?
MIDSOMMAR (2019) dir. Ari Aster
My only opinion on sambucky is that it’s a good ship because they’re obviously in love with each other, but each secretly think the other is the widow of their recently deceased best friend (Steve) and that they should respect the bro code. Hilarity ensues

Olivia and Hugh Crain in The Haunting of Hill House (2018) Journeys don’t end. Not if you love someone. They don’t end at all. Isn’t that wonderful?
