do you guys have a plan for how long bth is gonna be? and is it prewritten at all?

(really amazing so far btw, keep up the great work!!)

We have a general idea of how many arcs/chapters it'll be, yes! We probably won't put a number on it until we're a little closer to the end though since things are bound to change a lot between now and however many months it takes us to finish the fic heheh

And we ARE pre-writing! :D Just like we did with TAMN, we made sure to have several chapters banked before we ever started posting! Right now, we're about ~4 chapters ahead of what we've currently posted, but hopefully we'll be able to get back to TAMN levels, where we were about 8 chapters ahead at any given moment. Having a buffer like that really gave us some breathing room when we had "bad" weeks where one or both of us couldn't write at all or when life just got in the way.

We'll also be doing scheduled breaks like we did during TAMN! Should be once per arc just like we did back then since that worked well for us (we used the week off of posting to catch up on editing/writing) but may be more often if we end up needing it--regardless, we'll let everyone know in advance so it shouldn't interrupt our posting much! ✨

Chapter 4 - Training for the tributes begins, preparing for both the Games and the skill presentation to the Gamemakers. Vex is out of his depth, and allies are harder to come by than he thought.

“More weapons?”

To her credit, Symmetry doesn’t startle, offering him a slight smile as she carefully retrieves several throwing knives from where she’d embedded them in the hard-packed material of a target board.

“Scalar thinks I have a knack for them,” she explains, her voice low. “She wants me to focus on weapons today—to give us an edge with the rest of the competition.”

For a while, Vex simply stands back and watches Symmetry continue with the throwing knives. She’s always been a quick study, but it’s even more evident now how committed she is once she sets her mind on a task. She’s relentless, sweat beading on her brow as she aims at the target, throw after throw.

Inspired by her devotion, he turns to look at the loaded racks of weaponry, grabbing a bow simply because it’s nearest.

It’s heavier than he expects, made of some sort of high-carbon metal that reminds him of the material they used in Three for making springs. The string is already taut, and it takes more effort than Vex expects to pull it back and keep it held in position. 

He thinks of Games from the past—of tributes he watched wielding bows. Using them to shoot and pick off other tributes like it was nothing.

Clearly they had far more practice than he ever will.

You perfectly captured what we were trying to convey with the Tribute Parade. I love how bold and confident and intimidating Scar looks! and how much False is in his shadow and out of her element here aaaa :(( (I love how platinum you made her hair, tho, it's spot on)

The elytra wings are perfect, too!! that's exactly how we were picturing them in our heads. And the horses are magnificent! Honestly, if we were doing an Illustrated Bite The Hand this would have to be a two-page spread in the middle of the chapter. You NAILED it wowowowow!!!!!

We're both really really glad you're enjoying the start of the fic, tho! It's so fun to set up an entirely new prism in front of Scar and Grian and see how they look and act from this angle, and forge new obstacles and dynamics for them to find their way around. (And omg, we're right there with you- we both binged the movies together over a few days while we were in the researching/outlining phase of the fic, and we can't waiiiiit for Sunrise on the Reaping in November.)

Vex opens his eyes slowly, reorienting to his environment one sensation at a time. 

He’s in bed. A bed far more comfortable than the hard mattress he’s known his whole life. 

There are numerous pillows pushed up around him, and blankets of different weights and textures. He’s hungry, but it’s a pleasant kind of hunger, the kind that looks forward to a meal, rather than begging for it, desperate and gnawing. 

It’s all so nice that, for a moment, he doesn’t question any of it, simply enjoying the comfort for what it is.

Then reality sets back in. 

The Capitol. He’s in the Capitol.

The reaping, Symmetry, the other tributes, the Hunger Games. 

Conduit. 

He sits up quickly, rubbing the scar between his thumb and forefinger. 

His chest hurts.

Second welcome to our beloveds, Scar and False!! Tried to show the looming danger as best as I could with colours, referencing the chapter art and getting the character designs just "neat and simple" from districts (still waiting for the specific reference for Scar's outfits @uhohbestie)

That means Sidonia Sparks gets to shine compared to our trio and Mayor!! Shoutout to @/coldpotatwo (Sidonia Sparks, up right with TV screens as a dress) and @/butter.cups/Grian2300 (Mayor Fisher, a "simpler" looking man right next to Sidonia) OCs!

Ohhh we LOVE the perspective on this. It's soooo ominous with the high angle and the red against the black (LOVE the detail of the cameras with the recording lights on up in the corner). Poor False and Scar.... ughhh i looove how they look so small and vulnerable, and how the single point of light in their lives is the glint off Cub's earrings. (Also I'm obsessed with how you drew Sidonia's outfit- that's EXACTLY how i imagined it in my head when we were writing it.)

There will be better references! but for the meantime, so long as you don't mind seeing something rough (only for Grian, though. For Scar, we've been so busy planning and writing that I haven't had any time to draw him aside from his tribute profile)

But! here is the sketch of Grian's head gamemaker robes that we shared with Sal when they made our promo!

We wanted his robes to look official and business-y, without being to much like a housecoat. In the end we leaned into a desi inspo for him. with a little something extra to accommodate his wings.

I have some really specific outfits in mind for Vex both before and during his games (and after, tbh). So I gotta get sketching those! Soon soon! - 🔒

I feel I have to express this wave of emotions that have overcome me once again.

When I first read tamn I was[and still am] so incrediably starstruck by the writing, plot, story building, its like listening to one of those songs that make you feel unexplainable, and fully understood at the same time. Whenever I read your works I am completely comsumed in the world you guys make.

Ive only read tamn once even though I adore it because it makes me so emotional its just such a beatiful peice of art. It is so important to me I fulheartledly love it, your fics bring me so much joy. I adore it so much its almost painful when its merely mentioned up.

Not even just tamn I have read your oneshots or a few chapter fics countless times and my excitment never dulls the slightess.

With Bth now finally being posted I can already tell im going to obessed with this. Your fics have inspired me to write the silly little AUs that live in my head and post them just because I enjoy making stories.

Soon, the light will deepen into dusk, and then the brightness of a hundred thousand lights will come alive to push away the night. It's indicative of how much we love Grian that we loooove getting into the messy parts of his personality in our fics. It's such fun thing about his character, especially in the Life Series, which really brings out that side of him.

He's fully Capitol-brained in BtH at this point :') Never once has he thought outside of his immediate needs and wants. "It's hard for me, too," he says, because he has to walk to work in his carefully manicured and brutally protected paradise built on the back of structural societal inequality.

Aaaaaa we can't wait to share more of this fic!!!!
