Alright, I said I wanted to go into more detail regarding the recent ‘balancing’ made for 1x.
Honestly? The new changes feel like actively punishing players for actually playing 1x as a ranged killer… which is what their kit is meant to be… but also punishing players for getting up-close to a survivor. It feels like in an attempt to make 1x more balanced, the devs took it to the utmost extremes.
Entanglement is a complete joke on mobile and console, and now lasts a maximum of three seconds *and* gives the survivor speed 1 afterwards—not even counting the speed boost a survivor gets when hit if 1x actually gets close enough for an m1. They also recently increased the endlag of both Mass Infection and Entanglement, so if you’re using Entanglement from a distance, you’re probably shooting yourself in the foot by giving the survivor a free speed boost and being unable to catch up before they click out of it.
Oh, and don’t think of popping a Mass Infection afterwards, since that got slowed drastically and you have more endlag after Entanglement! The Entanglement + Mass Infection combo basically got gutted unless you’re standing on the survivors ass and they’re a new player. I don’t know exactly how much Mass Infection got slowed, but it’s enough where it’s very noticeable. Using it from any distance is essentially a waste of an ability now, as Mass Infection already had an extremely loud and predictable wind-up, so unless you play the game on mute or are hard-of-hearing, it was not difficult to simply… walk to the side; and now, with the nerfed speed, it’s even more of a joke to dodge. That isn’t even mentioning how Mass Infection is already super punishable by Shedletsky, Two Time, Chance, and hell even Guest 1337; as unlike John Doe, 1x HAS no (reliable) counter to being stunned during a MI windup or Entanglement endlag.
Then we have glitch… oh, poor glitch… glitch acted as both a visual effect and a sort-of weakness lite. Each consecutive hit from 1x would do slightly more damage than the last, and they already had passive poison in their m1 (and I think Mass Infection). Now, though, the ramping damage was completely removed, and the visual effects are a joke. Epilepsy mode gets rid of most of them (and honestly, good players usually know the maps good enough by then to not be too hindered), and the new effects on the health and stamina bar barely work since you can still see past it? You’re already most likely not getting a lot of m1 hits with 1x (since they’re the slowest killer, and they’re meant to be ranged), and removing the ramping damage guts the punishing part of their kit.
1x was NOT meant to be an up-close killer like Jason/Slasher, but the ramping damage allowed them to more reliably punish survivors who DID get close (such as a sentinel whiffing a stun) than an up-close Mass Infection (which also had a damage decrease). They already have extremely low base m1 damage (compared to the other killers at least, sitting at 20), meaning it takes five m1s to kill a survivor. For comparison, John Doe’s m1 does 28 damage.
Then we have unstable eye and rejuvenate the rotten. Unstable eye is now similar to observant, where you can’t use it at the start of a round. Unstable eye granted speed 1 and temporary X-ray, however I believe the duration was lowered? Rejuvenate the rotten also caps at speed 1 now, instead of speed 3.
Now, do I think EVERY nerf was bad? No. I also think most of them were unnecessary or extreme. Some people are probably gonna hit me with the “skill issue” (which is oh so very insightful), but genuinely these nerfs are basically completely wrecking 1x’s kit. They’re already a killer with a super steep learning curve, since you pretty much have to learn prediction to not get stomped on in good servers or sentinel-heavy servers, and these make that learning curve even more difficult. In trying to make 1x fairer, they basically made both aspects of their kit (the ranged and the high punishment if someone gets up-close) worse.
Like make a choice. If you want 1x to be ranged, stop slapping nerfs onto the ranged aspects of their kit. If you want 1x to be punishing up-close, stop gutting glitch.
Sorry I rambled without a lot of sense.
