Someone Has to Defend SouSara
Welp. Guess it’s gonna be me. I am the type of person that likes to keep their nose out of drama and other peoples business, but this has gone on long enough. I’ve been holding my tongue for weeks, so here we go:
SouSara is no where REMOTELY a pedophilic ship!
I have no idea where this line of thought even came from! It’s like one person said it and suddenly everyone took it as fact! I’m so tired of people calling it problematic! Stop trying to use the Can/Can’t Drink sign as a form of reference!!! It’s MEANINGLESS!!!
Nao is on the Can’t Drink side and is a college student! People ship her with Reko who is old enough to drink and acts like a mother figure to all the kids! Is that pedophilia now??? Nao is clearly atleast 19, where as Reko is probably 23/24. That is a 4-5 year difference!!! And yet no one bats an eye at that??? And why is that? Because it is not actual pedophilia!
We know Sara is canonically 17. Sou cannot be younger than 20 since the drinking age of Japan is 20 years. I honestly don’t get where people are getting “Sou is 24″ from. Like… there’s evidence to prove that???
At the start of the game, he admits he relies on his parents quite a bit. Could be a lie, but he hadn’t jumped off the deep end yet so perhaps there is some truth to it.
But it’s in the bar itself that has the most interesting dialogue that shows his age. He tells Sara she can’t drink because she’s underage, but is rather cheeky when she tells him to not drink.
This is probably purely my interpretation (and by extension my opinion) but Sou seems to be acting like a typical teen who JUST became drinking age and is rubbing it in the faces of his age group. Reason I say this is because, when you talk to Gin right after, he mentions his drunken father and Sou responds:
This tells me that Sou has NEVER had a drink before! Because he JUST became drinking age. Which leads to a messed up yet funny thought…
The Death Game started a week or even a month after his birthday. Happy Birthday Sou! You get a 0% survival rating!!!
All in all, Sou is at least 20, meaning the age gap between Sara and Sou are 3 years at most in this case. And where I’m from, three years is a pretty measly age gap. Sou was a Senior in highschool when Sara was a freshmen. Sou is LITERALLY senpai material if they weren’t in a Death Game!!!
Also I just want to bring up, this Death Game is clearly taking place during the Summer Months of Japan. Sou’s birthday is April 2. Sara’s birthday is May 18. I’m currently siding with the Theory that this whole Death Game is a “Coming of Age” arrangement for Sara, considering how the odds are stacked in her favor. If this is true, then by the end of the Death Game Sara will be 18, lowering the Age Gap to 2 years! Is it reaching? Yeah it is. But I thought it was a funny side note to a theory I’m holding on to.
I have more theories and stuff, but the point of this post was to just to get this off my chest. SouSara did not deserve the treatment it got on the western side of the fandom. I just want us to all get along…
