Eclipse was a heavy storm hanging in his master’s doorway, tension dripping from his sable frame. Dark clouds clung to his eyes and weighed down his shoulders. His usually prideful countenance was eroded by fatigue, as if he had recently lost a battle. But his ruby iris burned hotly against his weary appearance, blazing with hatred and hunger for revenge as he met the Black Mage’s gaze.
“My Lord. I have not faltered in my service to you. Not once,” Eclipse began slowly. “But I have not advanced, either—I have found no new strengths. I fear my power has become stagnant, though my… my burden continues to hinder me.”
He knelt down before the transcendent as show of respect, but rebellious determination still smoldered in his eye. Eclipse wanted to show his creator that he was not giving up.
“I am asking you to please make me stronger,” he said firmly. “This Light inside of me… I want to silence it permanently. I want to destroy it!”
“Sit. Hovering about my doorway will lend you no good for what we must speak about.” A bony index finger, that whose nails had not been tended to in centuries was extended and then curled in a gesture to come.
The chair he sat within was pushed back as he stood up to pace around his small dimly lit work space. The hunger and rage burned deeply within Eclipse, yet as long as an iota of the Light’s likeness remained upon him it would continue to plague him dearly. Unlike himself, the light and dark in his creation were two very different things, two spirits arguing for the host body. One would need destroyed for the other to take full control.
“Tell me, Eclipse. What is the part of you that still allows this interruption to remain? A mental hold? Or a spiritual one, mayhaps even a physical hold.” The first and obvious thought to him would have been the eye, but perhaps that was more of an outward display of the power struggle within. The crimson glow that was the only light to escape from the abyss within the robe was fixated upon his guest. His determination and will were strong, but just how strong if he failed still to eliminate the other?
