My interpretation of the rainbow theory
I don’t think I personally believe in the rainbow theory, but here a few options I could think of as fitting in as a possible Orange:
Opposites: If we are to think of each side having an opposite dark side (for the purposes of this theory Virgil is his own opposite): Roman-Remus Patton-Deceit Logan-Orange I’d think Logans opposite would fall a long the lines of rejecting facts, willful ignorance. Orange would use the charm of not having to worry about the world, Thomas not having to ever consider or change his view point. That could lead to ignoring that Virgil was a dark side. He could stay in his own happy bubble and reject facts
Depression: Orange could also be depression based on how the last few episodes have gone, Thomas believes his life to be on a downward spiral, things seem to have Thomas in a bad mental state lately. I could see Orange in this scenario taking over Virgil’s spot for the episode similar to Remus-Roman or Deceit-Patton/Deceit-Logan The other sides might lose sway over Thomas (think Riley in Inside Out) Romans hopes and dreams wouldn’t mean much, neither does logic, morality alone can’t get you out of your depression either. Patton in fact is responsible for feelings and might play into depressions hands
Blocking Out: Orange could also be apathy as a counter to Virgil. The idea of not caring could seems appealing to a guy who’s cared too much about everything lately, a welcome numbness. It could almost seem like a ‘light’ side and could maybe even essentially shut Virgil up. We know that that has terrible impacts on Thomas, but the concept might tempt him if he’s seeing Virgil as one of the Others
Hear No Evil: Orange could be self-hatred. Following the motif of see/hear/speak no evil, we could get Remus(intrusive images)/orange(self antagonizing thoughts from the voice in his head)/Deceit(telling lies). Again, Thomas has been through a lot, its quiet possible that what all the sides have been saying lately could start to get to him and he could truly start to believe he is a bad person. The orange side being self-hatred would have all the sides crazy on edge. Virgil would buy all of it and with Thomas having just found out that the Purpman used to be an Other might cause Thomas to lose it on him. I could see Logan trying to fight back, but I could see self-hatred using recent events to back up his claims and, no matter what, Thomas just not believing him. This could cause him to call on Deceit in a moment of weakness to help him block out Orange.
These are just a few of my theories on the matter. While I’ve mentioned before I don’t necessarily believe the rainbow theory it is appealing. I could see myself doing something similar in Thomas’ place. The only reason I don’t particularly like it is because it puts a set number on sides he could potentially have and it would have to be some very specific sides to be able to encompass all of the human experience that Thomas may want to talk about in future videos. Since it’s likely we’ll find out soon enough whether this theory is right, I feel like if there’s only seven side they’ve all come out pretty quick. I dunno that’s just me :/
Roman and Virgil hate each other for the same reason in the beginning And it’s because they both remind the other of one (1) disgusting trash goblin Change my mind
Good and Bad are just made up nonsense!
Something about Remus keeps throwing me off. He is so insistant about the truth and knowledge, which was weird enough considering he is creativity and thoughts with no rhyme or reason meaning those things don’t really fall under his jurisdictions, but I let it slide. What I can’t let slide is that part in his song where HE IS CLEARLY REFERENCING DECEIT I mean the silhouette, the Snake reference everything says this is Deceit, but he says: Speaking of honesty Recently a snake offered me a morsel from the tree of knowledge He said- You’re wanting to be more honest? And be direct dealing with your issues? No longer will you deceive yourself about the ugliness within you.
Which is weird right? Why would Deceit be encouraging one of the others to be honest? I have a theory: over the past two episodes the main sides have been called out for being dishonest pretty frequently.
Roman- Roman was most dishonest about his desire for the callback
Patton- Admitted to lying to Thomas telling Thomas what he felt based on what he hoped was true while not really knowing what the truth was at the end of Selfishness v. Selflessness.
Virgil- Virgil is literally called ‘not a beacon of truth’ in the courtroom and is known for being dishonest to Thomas, he’s also been called out for being secretive with his name, his past, (maybe even more depending how you interpret certain lines).
Logan- when it comes to Logan he’s avoided being called dishonest, attempt were made and doubts were cast, but he managed to come out mostly unscathed.
Then in comes Remus, he’s is horrible and everything Thomas hates, he’s also open and honest from the begging, he never tries to convince Thomas he something else, reveals his complete intentions, and even gives his name almost off the bat. While he does give a line or two that could be dishonest, they’re more so to cause panic than to deceive Thomas in any way. (There is a difference) Deceit is using The Duke to show Thomas that dishonesty and bad aren’t synonyms, maybe a little Deceit really is harmless And maybe his sides aren’t so trustworthy…
Paranoid
Falsehood helps to keep deceit at bay Figuratively helps to keep The Duke in check What do you wanna bet Paranoid was Virgil’s word and that’s why the other sides try to keep themselves from saying it?
