Hi! I stumbled upon your post about the translations and phrases in Mystic Messenger, and that ask you answered on honorifics used by the characters to each other and the MC is exactly what I've been looking for! I’m sorry, it’s coming I promise. I spent my winter break getting distracted by the Christmas DLC when I was planning to complete Jumin and Seven’s routes. My course schedule this term is all over the place so I keep missing chats and I’m stuck right now trying to get to Jumin’s good ending despite the missed chats so please bear with me ㅠ.ㅠ

Side note: There are a lot of things that are lost in the translation for this webtoon too unfortunately. I feel the people who read the English version will have a different perception of Sangwoo and Bum’s characters and their relationship compared to the people who read the Korean version.

Zen Day 5 Poem: “Flower”

Hello! I have done all of Zen’s phone conversations in his route and yes the verse of the poem he recites in that phone call is an actual poem that is very well known in Korea. I will post both of these asks so anyone who is curious about this phone call can hear it for themselves. The poem is called 꽃 (Flower) by 김춘수 (Kim Chunsu). Based on how I learned it, this poem is a poem about human relationships and the intrinsic yearning of humans to be recognized by and be important/meaningful to others. 

Here is the full poem in Korean:

내가 그의 이름을 불러 주기 전에는 그는 다만 하나의 몸짓에 지나지 않았다.

내가 그의 이름을 불러 주었을 때, 그는 나에게로 와서 꽃이 되었다.

내가 그의 이름을 불러 준 것처럼 나의 이 빛깔과 향기에 알맞은 누가 나의 이름을 불러 다오. 그에게로 가서 나도 그의 꽃이 되고 싶다.

우리들은 모두 무엇이 되고 싶다. 너는 나에게 나는 너에게 잊혀지지 않는 하나의 눈짓이 되고 싶다.

Translation (Bear in mind that the poet actually uses a -more or less- gender neutral pronoun but when I studied this in school, my professor translated it using the male pronoun so I will do the same):

Before I called out his name He was nothing But a single gesture.

When I called out his name, He came to me And became a flower.

Just as I called out his name I ask for someone who matches my light and fragrance To also call my name. I too want to go to him And become his flower.

We all Want to be something. You to me, and I to you Want to become a single unforgettable stare.

In the phone call, Zen says the last stanza but again I used my own translation so the English is not exactly the same as how it was translated in the phone call. There are many different translations online as well so feel free to search those up directly. Those will probably be more poetic than my translation >.< I was surprised that there were actually people who caught this and were curious about the poem!
