I was unable to find a working website for the Vietnamese Canadian Centre. they appear to be based in Ottawa

from the replies, the Japanese Social Services is based in Toronto, and offers counselling and other services to the Japanese community

The federal NDP is promising that if it forms the next government it will give anyone with a student loan up to $20,000 in debt forgiveness and a five-year grace period before they would have to start making payments.

“An education should help young people get ahead, not leave them further behind,” said NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh in a Saturday press release that outlined the party’s election promise.

“Young people are making student loan payments the size of mortgage payments — spending years under crushing debt not able to get ahead.”

In February, Singh told the Star he believed Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will call a spring election. While the NDP’s pitch is appealing to voters who have pursued post-secondary educations, one economist says that the promise will not be cheap.

Singh pledged that for graduates, or anyone who had left school, there would be a five-year grace period during which they would not have to make payments or be charged interest on federal student loans. The current grace period is six months.

After five years, if there is still money owed, Singh said he would allow for up to $20,000 of debt forgiveness for households with an income less than or equal to $60,000. Income would be based on the five-year average after leaving school.

This is AMAZING news for so many students like me who have mountains of debt and due to the economy/pandemic haven’t had any long term, secure form of income for years.

Full debt forgiveness would be preferred but even this would cut more than a third of all my debt.

Their plan also makes the goal of free tuition a reality in the future as well as the elimination of all federal student interest on student loans.

Please vote NDP.

in addition to the fact that people just have different natural rhythms, a big reason why we can’t seem to go to bed as early as we “should” is that nighttime is, for many of us, our safest and most fulfilling time of day. we don’t have to work, we won’t be contacted by bosses or insurance companies or collection agencies or other suffocating life business… we’re likely only to be contacted by our friends, or by no one at all. night time is release; it’s ours. we can rest or recreate. we can do things we actually want to do. who would choose to cut that short?? just to usher in the next morning when our lives are not our own again? nighttime is precious and nothing could be more normal than the desire to embrace this
