Can we talk about how much sense this makes though?
Francis was groomed from birth to become the next King of France. He was taught to think of his country before everyone. He had lessons and training —How To Be A King 101. Everything else came second to France. He had it drilled into his head—probably for as long as he could remember—to think of his people, think strategy, think with your head not your heart (never your heart).
Bash, on the other hand, was raised outside of politics. He saw it but was never a real part of it. He got his father’s love and affection without any of the responsibilities of being royal. All he had was his family, so he clung to it (because it wasn’t important in politics and therefore could be taken away) and cherished it, and fought to protect it, because that’s it, nothing else is of value.
Francis was taught to think of his country, just as Bash was taught to think of his family.
