I think every musician should talk a little about their pieces before playing them, I mean, you know what you’re playing, your teacher knows what you’re playing, but the audience does not, and it’s our job as musicians to transmit the composer’s intention. I think this is even more important to singers, specialy when they are singing some kind of story in a language that the audience does not recognise, and to those playing 20th and 21st century pieces, because for most people it’s just music with some random notes at some random tempo that does not sound that appealing, and they all actually have a purpose. I think this can make a huge diference on how people get the message we try to pass

i like this idea. it’s common practice for singers to do this (this was drilled into my training). though i don’t think i’ve ever actually introduced a piece i was playing on violin … interesting
