Bad Marriage: Boston rockers to release new music soon.

Boston is no stranger to great music and many exciting bands of all genres and background hail from one of the most prolific music towns in the US. Bad Marriage is a great example of a local talent: this hard rock group makes no compromises when it comes to their music, retracing the steps of classic rock greats such as AC/DC and Led Zeppelin, but also injecting a breath of fresh air into their music, making for a more modern and direct feel. The band is about to release a brand new single titled “Honey Bee,” which will be released later in June. The song is an engaging preview of the band’s upcoming full-length album, “Queen of Despair,” a long-awaited record that will finally see the light of day in October 2018. The new music channels the band’s fondness for down-and-dirty rock and roll, bridging the gaps between aggressive riffs, great song structures, and unique melodies, without making any compromise in terms of attitude and organic production values.

This is definitely a release to look forward to for all fans of great rock music.

Bone Nest - Bone Nest

Experimental music without boundaries.

Bone Nest is a producer and composer with a really distinct approach to his formula. One of the most striking features of his sound is most certainly the artist’s remarkable ability to seamlessly cross over between different genres and platforms, incorporating elements of music from different styles: from hip-hop and R&B to Trip-Hop, Breakbeat and Drum&Bass. Bone Nest’s most recent release is a self-titled full-length album. On this record, The producer is showing off his ability to borrow ideas and inspiration from very different sources, while allowing every element of the mix to sit together effortlessly.

You can close your eyes and let every track guide you through an intense journey through sounds, ideas, sensations, and textures, much like a musical version of an expressionist painting.

DANI - Blue

There is something truly magical in the air when the lightness of pop music collides with the deeper textures and emotional impact of ambient, and this is exactly what you can expect from DANI’s debut single, “Blue”.

This talented artist from Singapore is currently based in London, UK, where she kept honing her audio engineering skills and worked towards establishing her music career. “Blue” is a song that feels like a powerful character statement for Dani, but also sounds like a direct and vibrant track with a nostalgic feel. In particular, the artwork cover and some of the sound samples within the track come from DANI’s journey to Iceland, where she had the chance to visit the amazing Blue Lagoon, whose audio samples appear on the song.

Dead Rituals - Untitled/Naples

“Untitled/Naples” is a collaboration between Andrea Caccese (guitar) and Mattia Santangelo (drums.)

The EP features two semi-improvisational tracks, recorded live in a small garage box in Naples, Italy. The idea was to capture a genuine performance inspired by post-rock, jazz and no-wave, with only a couple of microphones in the room and two good friends jamming.

Introducing a set of new exciting releases from Lucian Balmer: “Homa Revised”, “Flood of Joy” and “Following Life”

Lucian Kano Balmer is a driven, talented and charismatic artist with a truly unique approach to his music. As a seasoned violinist and composer, Lucian creates music with a strong focus on blending classical music influences, with other styles and sonic aesthetics, often borrowed from contemporary compositions and world music.

His releases have a broad, organic and multi-dimensional feel, due to Luciano’s incredibly vast creative scope.

On “Homa Revised”, Lucian immediately strikes for the beautiful textures and the emotional feel of his performances. There is a tense drone, which can be perceived throughout the main melody, courtesy of Lucian’s dynamic playing. The percussion instruments make their way into the arrangement soon, after, making for an absolutely breathtaking chemistry, which feels classic, yet modern and cinematic.

On “Flood Of Joy”, Lucian reveals another side of his personality, making for a cheerful, upbeat and direct arrangement, with sparkling melodies and playful beats intertwining together into a very exciting sonic fabric.

“Following Life” follows along the same lines, yet it adds new nuances to Lucians’ artistry and vision. What really stands out about Lucian’s work is that most of these tracks are based on a few simple elements. The songs are not overcrowded with tons of instruments and overlapping tracks. On the other hand, the end result is a sound that feels incredibly deep and multi-dimensional. Interestingly, Lucian’s violin playing is particularly influenced by Sitar players, such as Ravi Shankar, making for a truly unique approach. His vocals also deserve a very special mention: he is able to lift up the arrangements and contribute to the harmonic content of tracks with his vocal melodies, which feel energetic and spontaneous.

Haley Heynderickx - I Need to Start a Garden

Haley Heynderickx is a singer/songwriter with a personable, earnest approach to her blend of alternative rock. Her recent studio release, “I Need to Start a Garden” sports an elegant and understated production - a modern indie-rock jewel with some endearing arrangements and organic performances.

On “Untitled God Song” and “Worth It”, Haley howls at the moon like the best Jeff Buckley, aided by a bare-bones arrangement that allows the melody to shine.

“Mom Sha La La”, as the name might imply, is perhaps the feel-good song of the release, going for a sugary dream-pop vibe, with simple and engaging melodies. You can’t go wrong with 2 chords and a backbone drum beat!

Superbig - Sideways Love

Sideways Love is a brand new single by indie rockers Superbig. Immediately from the start, their passion for great melodies and uplifting stadium rock hooks is clear. This song makes me think of artists such as Kings Of Leon, Angels And Airwaves, The Killers or Oasis - all of those bands who managed to take the honesty of alternative rock and translate it into a format that has a lot of mass appeal, without losing credibility.

Hailing from Chicago-IL, the band is reportedly on a mission to save rock. They have been able to craft a really compelling single, where melody and energy colliding, in equal doses. The lyrics also add an earnest vibe to the track, making for a very relatable approach to songwriting. The song is also featured on the band’s recent album, “Barely Holding On”, which showcases the band’s vision and chemistry, with each song bringing in a new direction and unpredictable twist.

See This Through - Not The Same

See This Through is a band whose sound echoes the groove, punch, and weight of early noughties alternative rock - think Deftness, Staind or Breaking Benjamin, among others. The group’s recent single is a track titled “Not The Same.”

The song is also featured on the band’s debut EP, “On My Own”, and it stands as a great indicator of the band’s creative direction.

The first thing that stands out about this track is the larger-than-life drum sound. The toms pound fierce, paving the way to the coming of an edgy wall of guitars. The monolith riffs add weight and depth to the music, while the vocals resonate aggressive, yet melodic. On “Not The Same”, the band affirms its rightful place amongst the most credible stalwarts of this particular rock sound, which is showcasing big signs of a massive resurgence.

The song has a dark and haunting atmosphere, yet it is catchy and appealing, bridging the gaps between great hooks and gnarly guitar/bass assaults.

Dynamos - Knowledge

Dynamos are a charismatic rock band who set out to create vibrant, energetic and charismatic music, with a love for grunge, soul, and indie-pop.

The OC band took the California music scene by storm, one gig at a time and song by song, with their melodies and driven grooves. The group is led by charismatic vocalist Nadia, who really allows the band to shine through her personality and approach.

On “Knowledge” the band put their chemistry to the test, and the results are absolutely outstanding. The song feels like a perfect compromise in between retro pop and modern rock. Think of hey-day Beatles with a time machine, traveling to the modern age and recording with top-of-the-line equipment!

The song has a truly magnetic energy, laced up with blues riffs, bouncy bass tones and textural guitar riffs with a lot of cool reverb tones. It’s impressive how the band managed to capture such a charming retro vibe, while retaining a modern edge.

Cameron Mizell - Memory/Imagination

Experimental guitarist Cameron Mizell set out to create a fascinating new album, inspired by jazz, minimalism, dissonance, and avant-garde. If you enjoy the work of artists such as Marc Ribot, Nels Cline, Thurston Moore or John Zorn, you’ll appreciate the kaleidoscopic approach to Cameron’s songwriting and compositions. 

The album is guitar-based and its arrangements are incredibly stripped-down, yet the release retains a rich and deep sense of dimension.

Rest Stop - Life Support

Rest Stop is an artist from London, England. His recent studio release, “Life Support”, echoes the work and melodies of musicians as diverse as Ludovico Einaudi, Sigur Ros or The Album Leafs. Organic soundscapes merge with minimalistic, yet rich piano arrangement, while everything comes together, tied by textural drones and beautiful, cinematic synths and guitars.

“Life Support” features 10 songs, which highlight the project’s diverse and forward-thinking compositional skills. Opening track “Sense of Being” creates an immersive atmosphere that will follow suit with the rest of the release. One of my favorite tracks on this release, “One Small Stone”, echoes the work of some of my favorite bands, including “This Will Destroy You”, Sigur Ros or “Explosions In The Sky”, with iconic and emotional textures of piano and electric guitar.

Charzrd - Evolution EP

Funny enough, I was in the middle of a Pokemon Showdown game when I first heard of this EP, and the moniker of this producer, which reminds me of one of my favorite Pokemon characters, certainly stirred my interests.

After all, music coming from an artist whose name is inspired by a raging fire dragon has to be absolutely badass! As it turned out, I was absolutely right. The songs on “Evolution” are progressive, dynamic and shape-shifting, becoming stronger and richer as they achieve their climax. On the other hand, the melodies retain a very catchy and accessible tone that has a lot of mass appeal.

The five tracks featured on this release are cohesive, yet diverse enough to make things interesting and add some variety to the EP.

Son Lux - Brighter Wounds

After a somewhat lengthy absence, Son Lux, the brainchild of producer Ryan Lott, is back with a brand new album, his first since his acclaimed 2015 release, “Bones.” The latter release was a significant milestone, widening the creative range of the project and welcoming excellent collaborators into the sonic fabric of Son Lux, namely guitarist Rafiq Bhatia and drummer Ian Chang.

“Brighter Wounds” remains close to the colorful and ornate songwriting style that has informed the band’s aesthetics while aiming towards a grand cinematic scope. There is room for anthemic moments, such as the galvanizing choral vocals of “Dream States." Son Lux is at its best when dabbling with broken beats and chopped up riffs (“The Fool You Need”), as well as diving into tasteful avant-pop on songs such as “Labor,” one of the album’s highlights. “Brighter Wounds” is an album that sets new standards in music production. It excels at sounding catchy and endearing while remaining groundbreaking and progressive.
