Underdawn: Chapter Seven
The group finished dinner and Toriel tucked them all in, leaving the last slicce of pie in case anyone got hungry in the middle of the night. Toriel shut the door quietly and went to her room for the night as well, Asgore was already long asleep.
“You guys aren’t asleep, are you?” Asriel whispered.
“Nope, and I don’t plan on sleeping for a while,”Chara quietly answered,”Frisk are you awake?”
Frisk had opted to lie on the floor after Asriel offered them both his bed, Asriel slept beside them to keep them company as he suspected Frisk was anxious about everything that happened today.
Asriel nudged Frisk,”Frisk, are you awake?”
Asriel and Chara both got up and leaned over Frisk, checking to see if they they were dead.
“Well,” Chara noted,”Frisk is actually asleep, that is kind of stranger than not being asleep.”
“So, what are we gonna do first?” Asriel asked,”Other than potentially wake Frisk up.”
“Well I kind of hoped that everyone would be awake for this but one person is close enough. It’s time that I explain myself and Frisk.” Chara uttered.
“Can I ask one question before you start though?” Asriel mumbled.
“What is it you want to know?”
“Are you two really humans?”
“Yes, we are from the surface.”
“Is it really nice up there like people say it is?”
“Well,” Chara stuttered, If I tell him how great the surface is he’ll want to go there and save all monsters and this journey will have been useless, but if I lie he may find another motive based off my response, I don’t know what to say other than the truth... ”the surface is beautiful, and the creatures that inhabit it are quite wonderful, but the humans aren’t.”
“Why’s that?”
“Humans... are... complicated. No two are exactly alike because everyone is made unique. Asriel, if you ever go to the surface you will most likely die. Humans would fear for their lives and would kill you in self defense even if you did nothing to provoke it, so please stay in the underground with me for as long as we live because you’re safe here, safe with me.”
Asriel didn’t respond and Frisk kept their eyes shut tightly, restraining themselves from asking the burning question in their mind.
“I’m going to sleep, goodnight.” Chara stated.
“What, but what about explaining yourself?”
“I’d rather do it when both you and Frisk are awake, I don’t want to have to explain twice.”
Frisk thought to themself, But I am awake, can’t you tell by how much noise you made, ugh, I’d rather get sleep before you explain this though because it’ll probably take a day to get me to believe you after this mess you’ve made.
“Goodnight I guess,” Asriel climbed back into his makeshift bed and stared at the ceiling before closing their eyes.
