If I ever get out of all this mess, I’m switching to watching OFMD. I like those two bc “wow is a gay couple where one is blond and fancy and the other is rugged and wears black leather” and it scratches an itch, or whatever the flip that one European angel/demon show is. It’s very similar to GO that’s all I remember.
Dear god, now I WISH season3/a finale was cancelled. Because the fanfiction would’ve ALWAYS made sure that Aziraphale and Crowley end up together and are happy. Which, they are doing that, but it just…it’s not the same, I guess. It hits me a little harder that we got a bad ending versus no CANON ending.

Heh….I bet @yoylecakeyum just LOVES when her Yaoi is canon AND she gets slices of life…jokes on her…I actually like it when my Yaoi dies or is toxic or whatever!
Just saw a TikTok edit of a new ship(I wouldn’t even have thought of this): The Metatron x Satan. I felt I should consult the people during these trying times.
[This is an au that I created back in September of 2023, with the question of “what if Muriel fell” after good omens season2.]
Part 1
Part 1 rewrite
Part 2
Part 3
Part 4
I will try to update this about two or four times a month, but unfortunately I cannot guarantee that since this all comes from a me from 2 years ago so I might have to get back into planning and such
Okay so I found my old account that is not in use(because I can’t get to it) and along with it I found parts 2, 3, and 4 of my good omens au. On that blog it was called Fallen!Muriel, so I’ll just stick with that name. Yeah
I’ve been reading about how the finale is NG’s big ole “fuck you” to everyone after he got exposed for everything he has done to his victims*, and honestly, it makes a little bit of sense, considering he let go of good omens a little too easily in my opinion. Like he didn’t really even fight for it like most writers and story directors would and have in this case and now I know why.
They’re cute, yes, and it helps me to think that when I get back into the acceptance stage of this grief, that I can fall back onto them because I believe they are the souls of Aziraphale and Crowley, which is an over all beautiful sentiment.
But
Asa and Anthony, even if they weren’t raised by parents who fully loved and supported them, did not go through the same defining process as Aziraphale and Crowley did. They had free will from the very start, likely never punished for it harshly, could go where they wanted, got justice or at least were able to speak up if someone wronged them, and could pick what they wanted to do with themselves. Whereas Aziraphale and Crowley have been forced into these jobs, these roles, metaphorically held at gun point if they didn’t obey, and were able to be brought into places or situations they didn’t consent to. These are very defining points in someone’s personality and psychological development.
And with that in mind, the only people who haven’t entirely changed much are the humans who existed in Aziraphale and Crowley’s universe because they had autonomy and free will. They had always been like that! Maybe Adam will change, seeing as he had to deal with hearing voices and being satans son and seeing Satan all at age 11, and maybe Nina and Maggie, but they’re fully grown adults when they meet the forces of Heaven and Hell.
And(yes, I’ve said this before) Aziraphale and Crowley would rather off their ownselves than let the other die. If that was the only choice, if one side had to go, Aziraphale would offer himself up and Crowley would offer himself up. Never in a million years would they let the other die, and thus they would end up in a stalemate, and would have to find another solution that wasn’t ending their old universe.
Note:I’m between pro and anti go3, but more on the anti side. I’m only slightly(microscopically) pro bc I liked the parts with Asa and Anthony, I thought it was cute.
Uhhhhhh I pulled an all nighter and said “you know what, let me get this fic out of my drafts” (even though I could’ve been finishing my Payjay fic, sorry ycy love you) so yeah
Simple Defiance, Utter Free Will
A go3 fix it fic (2852 words)
“No, you were the best of us. You cared so much about everything.”
Crowley interrupted, “As if you didn’t? You cared just as much as I did, angel. If not more at times.”
His angel-could he even be called that with Heaven gone? Anyway, his former angel gazed at him with this confused look mixed with a smile of “oh Crowley, you’re just saying that” , and before he could continue, Crowley interrupted once again. It was his turn to speak and talk this time.
”You’ve been sticking your neck out for not only me but humanities sake. You lied to god, did things that could’ve made you fall, or worse had you erased from reality. All for humanity and the world. When you left, I wanted to run, you wanted to solve things. And…and I never asked what you wanted.” He admitted. This was foreign for Crowley to do because he’d never realized this, and foreign for Aziraphale because Crowley was a blinding, beautiful star in his universe that he revolved around. “I was the best demon, sure. But the best angel was you, Aziraphale, not the second.”
God and the apothecary stood there watching, almost mirroring Aziraphale and Crowley in some strange way, until She asked, “Do you have a question, angel?”
It was almost instant, the thought in Aziraphales mind: “No, I don’t have any, I accept this”. Conditioned and imprinted into his mind, it was. Ever since he witnessed the first angel fall for questioning it struck fear in him, but it utterly shattered any sort of resistance he had when he witnessed who was now called Crowley fall.
“Oh, come on now.” She laughed a little. “You have them, I know you do. Tucked away back into that mind, that soul of yours. Ask, Aziraphale.”
He was now starting to remember some questions he’d had, all the things he repressed. It was almost cruel he only got one, but asking multiple questions was Crowley’s whole deal.
And then he found his one burning question.
”Why? Why give me Crowley?” He felt himself getting a bit mad, and rightfully so, while tears welled and his throat began to ache in sadness.His anger and sadness mixed together. “Why make me complete…and then take it away?”
Aziraphale wanted to believe She didn’t know. There was still quite a lot of shame left over despite all of this. Over the course of 6000 years, he went from denying it entirely, to begging that god didn’t actually know or that he didn’t really love Crowley. He couldn’t handle it if she knew all this time and let him feel unloved and full of shame and fear. But unfortunately, god isn’t usually merciful.
”Because your love for him, was the messiest, silliest, most predictable thing in the universe. And it always made me smile.”
Aziraphale took it as him being finally accepted. He saw the good. Crowley saw it as Her playing games, treating the two like entertainment. He saw the bad. Before either could speak once more, She spoke again.
“But that was then. That universe is over. As I think are both of you.”
The world began to cave in, abruptly fading back into darkness, and Aziraphale wanted to clutch onto Crowley one last time. But he didn’t, he’d already started questioning things, there wasn’t any use in being afraid of any higher ups or even God herself getting mad at him. Just as he wanted to speak, Crowley spoke for him.
”Woah-woah-woah, wait!”
The darkness receded.
”You still haven’t answered my first question. What I want to know is, why did you think it was a good idea, maybe even a sensible idea, to make an infinite universe, run it for 6000 years and then just…tip the board over? Whole things lunacy.”
Her voice was as direct and informal as ever. “Everything ends. A story doesn’t have to go beyond the last page of its book, Crowley, and that story is over.” She put emphasis on his name like pushing a finger into the demons chest.
“I don’t accept that,” Crowley retorted. “And I do not accept that you’re the one that gets to make all these decisions, why should that be, you have been absent for millennia, practically since the beginning of time. You don’t get to come back in and take hold.”
She smiled, tilting her head. “Very well. I’ll let you choose.” Both the angel and demon thought ”What” at the same time. “This decision, this final decision can be yours. What do you want? Do you want me to put everything back the way it was?”
While the “former angel” Aziraphale was astonished, his demon asked, “Can we talk?”, staring down the Almighty like a predator.
”Very well.” God said a second time. “I’ll give you privacy.”
Reality for only two, suddenly more-powerful-and-responsible-than-they’d-ever-been-in-existence beings, was shifted and turned the last few remnants of this universe into a secluded and lush garden. In the middle was the tree of which used to hold the Fruits of Knowledge
Aziraphale and Crowley knew where they were, what God had made for them. And goodness did it only rub salt and acid into the wound. Crowley stroked the tree for a moment, while Aziraphale gazed around knowingly. Exactly how they left it all those millennia ago.
The angel sighed, looking at Crowley. This was the first time ever Aziraphale’s love for Crowley had ever been fully brought to light, an instance where he couldn’t deny that it was true. But, Crowley loved him too, the feeling was mutual! He kissed him! This made his heart swell, until Aziraphale realized their situation again. “What do you want us to do?”
”Why’re you asking me? You know what I want, but…humanity deserves free will. Actual free will. They were supposed to get it after Adam refused to start Armageddon.”
”They deserve it after all of this. Jesus especially. But…what do you suggest? Do we simply ask for a universe with free will?”
“No, She’s not that simple, nor is She that easy with her work. We can’t win, Aziraphale. I…I don’t want it to be this way but, we have to get rid of Heaven and Hell. For good. Create a new universe without it.”
Aziraphale’s head turned quickly, almost giving him whiplash. “But that means no you or me. No us.”
”Well…fine. No Hell. If there’s no hell, then heavens reigns supreme and they won’t care about being better than hell.”
That sounded so much worse, and just the thought made the angel tear up. To think about a world without demons means a world without his darling boy, his dearest. And that was hell in it of itself. “No! No, please. You can’t. I know how…utterly horrible life has been, mainly due to my decision, and I am sorry, but I chose Heaven for you and humanity! The Metatron, you saw what he did to Gabriel. He practically lobotomized him, and simply for speaking out once. I’ve done much worse, and I felt like they’d not only hurt me but hurt you worse. And…I wanted to do good, but I understand that there’s no changing heaven.”
Finally, the emotions tipped over;Aziraphale was truly crying now. This really was one big mess of both heartbreak and overstimulation for both of them. A human corporation wasn’t supposed to handle all of this in the span of a day.
Crowley stepped closer, until he could pull Aziraphale in. “I know angel”, he said as he let his angels tears, for the first time in likely all of creation, fall onto him and the emotion was mutual. It flowed through their souls and spread across their corporations, until it wasn’t as intense for Aziraphale. Still, his angel gripped him by the shoulders as he shook and shuddered with each sob.
”There’s…” His voice was muffled, so Aziraphale picked his head up and sniffled. “There’s so much I wish to say to you, but this is all rushed. And now that I’ve got the chance to say it, it’s suddenly not the time. And she’s letting the fate of it all rest in our hands.”
”We are the most experienced about the world.” Crowley said, smiling. “I…I think we have to do it, Aziraphale.”
There was quiet in the universe for a second. Well, in this part of what was left of the universe that God placed the two in. Aziraphale and Crowley were still mimicking humans by blinking and breathing in and out slowly. The angel was softly sobbing now. The demon was consoling him.
Abruptly, the angel picked his head up. “No.” He said proudly. “Why do we-why do we have to follow Her! You were right, she’s been absent all this time, she hasn’t even really been ‘running’ the universe for 6000 years! Or even watching over humanity! We were!” Aziraphale gently pushed back from Crowley’s shoulder, just to look into his serpentine eyes.
There were moments throughout Aziraphale and Crowley’s “friendship”-which was only a running term between the two for 7 or 8 years of their lives, once Aziraphale finally admitted it after the almost-Armageddo- there were times when the one noticed what the other was going to do before they did it. Not exactly, but it would be Crowley thinking of doing something nice or Aziraphale thinking of doing something bad-or at least not right by heavens terms-by that little mischievous look in their eye. For Aziraphale, the look came along with a look of fear.
Even now, that pattern was followed. However, it seemed that this time around, this fear didn’t stop the angel.
Crowley’s brows furrowed. ”What, what is it? You only ever give that look when you’re thinking of disobeying heaven.And the only piece of it left is-…”
His eye brows went relaxed, along with the rest of his face. Instinctively, he glanced back, expecting to see God there, maybe even in her non-human form. There was only the historical fiction section covered in vines. She really did give them privacy.
He turned is head back to face Aziraphale. “Angel, if this…” Crowley lowered himself to a whisper. “If this isn’t in her plans, if we suddenly play the wrong card, she’ll just say ‘too bad’ and end the universe.”
”I-I know she could do that. And you are going to say I’m ridiculous for saying it but we have to-“
”Have faith in her? Really, angel? You know after 6000 years with me saying it, you’d think surely you would have-“
”I’m saying we have to trust she’s actually letting us make this decision. And I believe she is. Please. We have to try, at least. And…she didn’t quite answer our questions.”
Crowley breathed a sigh. There was no trickery to this, no deception. She said she would allow them to choose. Now, allowing someone to choose was very different than obeying their choice. And besides, was it really lying if it was the creator of the universe and reality? Finally, he nodded.
The garden seemed to fade as they made their decision. Explaining how it all worked was as clear to them as it would be to humans.
In the now normal foyer to the bookshop, the apothecary and the almighty were sat, chatting casually. The sight was down right uncanny, but in the end, such a thing seemed to happen often in heaven, earth and hell.
“So then, he says ‘I’ve got a better idea, let’s not and say we did’. So I thought, well, there you go.” Satan said.
They both laughed, before noticing Aziraphale and Crowley. She seemed to sense them, likely because she did, or either knew this exact moment would happen from before she even began to make their decision universe they stand in.
Satan spoke once more. He loved doing it after all. “Made your decision?”
The room fell silent as Aziraphale gathered his courage. Telepathically, Crowley seemed to cheer him on, give him a little boost along with “you can do it angel, tell her.” And so he did. “We want you to put everything back the way it was. Bring the universe back.”
Her brow furrowed, but she continued to listen with a smile as Crowley reached forward to grab Aziraphale’s hand. Energy buzzed through them both on their palms like connecting two live wires. “But,” The demon eyed her. “No more playing games with earth or the universe. No more wars going on the planet between heaven and hell, no more destruction from higher beings. None of that.”
”But don’t destroy heaven and hell. They can stay but make them conjoined places for the deceased to rest or redeem themselves.” Aziraphale emphasized the next part. “You don’t have power, neither does he.” He gestured to the apothecary, Satan.
When god did not object or even speak, the apothecary turned to her. “You’re not seriously entertaining them in this nonsense, are you?” Silence from her continued, until she looked to the demon and the angel, and asked, “Is that all? For confirmation, you wish for everything back the way it was but for Heaven and Hell to not have the same power over earth as before?”
They both thought for a moment, scanning for any cracks. Eventually, Crowley added in one last thing. “Oh. Well, ‘suppose you could allow angels and demons to travel between earth and heaven and hell. If they want to. But none of that ‘getting brought to a place you don’t actually want to be in’ none of that mess. ‘Think that’s it though, right angel?”
Aziraphale looked at him, and smiled. “Yes, my dear. That’s it. That’s all I want.”
Abruptly, he turned to the almighty and said, “Well, could you make it so the humans don’t recall getting erased from existence?Some of them are quite young and even the adults couldn’t understand this. Make it as if they all had an odd dream.”
The almighty nodded. The apothecary remained astonished and surprised, but somehow he knew this was to happen. Or at least something is to happen. In his mind, god was sadistic and well, for lack of a better word, evil-practically the same as him. He was expecting her to reject their idea and throw the board over.
She didn’t. With a flick of her wrist, and a snap, the world outside reversed its destructive pace. Light came back, and in its wake, so did all the lives that were erased.
~~~
Jesus Jehoshua was outside, in the middle of the street. Around him were Harry, Mrs. Sandwich, Ms. Cheng, and other humans, which he had decided he wanted them all to be his new friends.
Far off, in Tadfield,a witch, a witch-finder , and their child were once again huddled together in the far back of the master bedroom after the witch reported something in the world feeling off.
Not as far, but still miles away, four college students-who had been skipping their classes to walk in the forest outside of campus-appeared on the earth once again, same as before.
In the nebulas and stationed right in the middle of two stars so close they look like they’re one big star, a small house rested comically, and so did the ex-archangel, and ex-duke of hell living in it. They strangely looked around, before embracing each other desperately.
~~~
As heaven, hell, and the earth, along with all of the universe that was destroyed, faded back in just how they were before. The humans all were beginning to wake up, confused as ever, before-as requested-brushing it off as a dream.
The angel and the demon turned, hands still joined to look outside. It was all there.
As the angel stood amazed that not only did it work, but he was able to stand up to the almighty, for once, Crowley was just now realizing they had left. God and Satan were no longer there. He supposed they weren’t even on earth. They’d done it, they gave humans real free will without beings ruling over and playing with them!
Then, he realized that meant Aziraphale and Crowley were alone. Just the two of them. They needed to talk, yes. Communication was desperately important now, practically dire. And now they had all the time, and space to talk, in the world. No one was there to stop them anymore.
”I…I suppose we should talk?” Aziraphale started.
“Yes.” Crowley nodded reluctantly. “I…I understand you wanted to do good…” His mind danced around the topic, causing him to pause and breath over and over everytime he wanted to stop talking about this or rephrase in a way that didn’t imply a relationship. “And I understand now that running wouldn’t do anything. And…that I never asked you what you wanted, I only assumed. I’m sorry. But…you wanted me as an angel, I know, and-“
”What? I never wanted you as an angel. I mean, of course when you were one, I did, but I didn’t want you to change into one or become one. When I said I wanted you to work with me in heaven, I thought you’d be happier making stars again. And if I were-I believed if I were in charge, you could do that freely.” He fiddled with his gold pinky ring, breaking eye contact. “I…I’m sorry. I understand, and see that you are also happy as a demon.”
Silence took over once again like a thick fog. The pair could hear humans outside discussing their strangely similar dreams with one another.
Abruptly, both Aziraphale and Crowley said in accidentally unison, “I love you” with the pet name that followed being ”angel” from the demon Crowley, and “dear” from the angel Aziraphale. Together-again, in unison-the smiled.
Once again, for the second time in the universe, a nightingale was singing in Berkeley Square, and distantly, two women were waking up in their apartment above a record/coffee shop, having a feeling that their favorite celestial beings had finally talked things out.
Guys don’t worry, that whole “finale” deal was just Crowley having a bad dream, and then him and Aziraphale(aka the new guardians of the world) decide to mess with the humans a bit by role playing as them, obviously! It’s something silly they do! I bet you in that last scene Muriel and Eric don’t even end up drinking their drinks, & Adam and Jesus are talking about there experiences being the son of a powerful being and having a predetermined role from birth!
