Nerve
This is my submission for Project 2. I wanted to create a film intro that would produce films that were dark and mysterious, maybe even horror movies. My inspiration for this was Blumhouse’s opening animation. I think that for the most part this is how I wanted it to look. If I were to change anything, I would possibly make the electricity animations a little more intricate and then maybe try a more dramatic lighting. Personally, I really like how the sound designed turned out.
This project is an exploration of nostalgia and our relationship with time and memory. I chose the two figures to represent life and death, a key component for a humans understanding of the passage of time. The text reads: “In Your Head, Out of Your Control”. The two terms in and out are important to me because it represents a beginning and an end and, given the context of the phrase, it all exists within our own perception and memory.

Artist: Eva Papamargariti
Eva Papamargariti is a GIF artist that created landscapes out of fluid renderings of 3D objects. She also create films, images, collages, and a lot of different forms of media. Originating on tumblr she has now graduated on to showing her works around the world, including her gif art. The creation of a location that doesn’t exist is compelling and evocates a sense of longing towards this area. It’s an intimate way to view the landscapes that are pure imagination and originating within someone else’s mind. Memory play and nostalgia are evoked from her work, as the viewer is forced to piece together the textures, colors, and other factors that seem simultaneously familiar yet foreign.
Baroque/n
Digital sampling and decontextualization is a common method used throughout contemporary media and art. The internet has provided users and artists with the means to borrow works, music, and media from any point on the timeline of recorded human history. This practice of “mash-up” culture is a way to create an ambiguous time and place within the work. I tried to create a space that blurs the lines between past, present, and future is a way to dislocate the audience and allow them to immerse themselves into a place that reflects the past, present, and future technologies. I used the painting “Saint Jerome Writing” (1605) because it depicts the cardinal of the time feverishly writing and translating as death (the skull) looks upon him. I edited the image to include him holding a cellphone in front of a computer to reflect the ongoing endeavor to document and pass down knowledge. I think our time in history will provide a warped view of how we use the past and present to represent our media and nostalgia.
