WINDHAND (Richmond, Virginia, USA – Relapse Records / Forcefield Records)

Founded in 2009 in Richmond, Virginia, WINDHAND is a stoner, doom metal band made up of Aschiah Bogdan, Parker Chandler, Dorthia Cottrell, Garrett Morris, and Ryan Wolfe. They have been compared to Electric Wizard, Blood Ceremony, the Devil's Blood, and Black Sabbath. In March 2012, WINDHAND released their self-titled debut which quickly became an underground hit, selling out of multiple vinyl presses in a matter of months. It was recorded and mixed at the Dark Room by Garrett Morris and mastered at Slipped Disc Audio by Bill McElroy in 2011. After a steady touring schedule, the band collaborated with Richmond brethren Cough on a split entitled "Reflections of the Negative" due out on Relapse Records in April 2013. is an American post-black metal band that formed in 2010 with vocalist George Clarke and guitarist Kerry McCoy, who previously performed in a grindcore band together. Clarke isn't sure how he arrived on the name Deafheaven, though he is aware of its appearance in William Shakespeare's Sonnet 29. The two words "deaf" and "heaven" were combined as an homage to Slowdive. Their music is described as "A dizzying hybrid of shoegaze shimmer, hardcore punk passion, emo vulnerability, and black metal intensity." EARTHSHIP (Berlin, Germany – Pelagic Records)

surge ahead like a nuclear-powered icebreaker through the Barents Sea, laden with mighty riffs, tons of groove and home-brewn whiskey. The band was launched by former THE OCEAN drummer Jan Oberg and his colleagues Dennis Boettcher on drums and Bastian Gutschke on bass guitar, after a long drinking night in Berlin some time in the spring of 2010. THE OCEAN mainman Robin Staps joined the band on second guitars shortly afterwards. The newborn band recorded their debut album "Exit Eden" at Oberg's own Hidden Planet Studios in Berlin: "Exit Eden" was the grim, ugly soundtrack to a rough and dangerous passage through dark, icy waters. A trip through the vast black sea of doom, metal and prog 'n roll. The album was released on Pelagic Records in early 2011. The band played their very first show supporting TORCHE in Berlin in December 2010, followed by a few more gigs in the following months. The band then embarked on "Friction tour" with THE OCEAN, RED FANG and INTRONAUT, which took them all across Europe in May and June 2011. THE BLACK HEART REBELLION (Ghent, Belgium – Smoke & Dust / Adagio 830 / Consouling Sounds / Tokyo Jupiter Records)

TBHR shows off many faces. Starting in the punk scene in 2004, the band’s remarkable course roller-coasted from the international underground to more public stages in and around Belgium. The band was constantly on the hunt for new impulses, either visually, graphically or musically. The new album reflects that steady, artistic evolution. After German, Italian, Malaysian, and Japanese releases and heaps of experience on the road, TBHR's résumé lists an impressive number of concerts. Moreover, Japan released TBHR's first record Monologue in 2009. On top of that, the band had the honor to tour the country during November of that year. Around the same time, they contributed to the stage play Medea from the Belgian-German theatre company In Vitro. TBHR supported the piece with a rumbling and apocalyptic soundtrack. After performing in Ghent, Antwerp, and Cologne all other plans were put on hold in order to focus on writing Monologue's successor. The band sought the perfect person to cooperate with and eventually hit the studio with Koen Gisen (Kiss The Anus Of A Black Cat, The Bony King of Nowhere, Flying Horseman) in March 2012. Working on a record for four years is a long time. In the meantime, TBHR started collaborating with the Church of Ra collective, where they met a kindred vision and working method. During that period they played few live shows. So as not to lose focus. The hiatus was necessary and paid off in the end. HAR NEVO oozes with waiting, tiresome and disconcerting. CONDRE SCR (Berlin, Germany – Oxide Tones)

Hailing from the German capital, Condre Scr are experts in finely balancing various aspects of multiple genres. From Shoegaze to Post-Rock, Indie to Instrumental, their musical approach is one of creativity and not a structured attempt to reach a specific goal. The five piece create music that, although palatable to most Post-Rock fans, is not that easy to categorize. Each instrument plays its own important role, and the end product is one that seems to have its only goal in existing. Condre Scr has been off the radar for the last few years, but that doesn't mean they have been inactive. With their unique blend of harrowing harmonies and delicate melodies, You Are Genius is a fitting follow-up to Jar Marsen. They remain true to themselves and their sound, the album is a winding path between hope and darkness. Formed in 2010, an all encompassing art / music / narrative project, based around a story written by their vocalist Alex, who drew influence from the writings of Philip Pullman's "His Dark Materials" trilogy, John Milton's "Paradise Lost", and the "Book of Genesis", an allegorical tale in which to forward atheist / anti theist and radical left wing / free thought ideologies. The band play a mixture of Melodic Post Hardcore, Progressive Metal, Post Rock and Ambient Atmospheric Drone.
