I understand the journalist. Because in Africa, Tracee Ellis Ross is not a black women. In areas such as Southern Africa (Zambia, Zimbabwe, South Africa, and Botswana) we would refer to her as a “coloured” which isn’t a derogatory term there as it is in the U.S. It is used to describe a completely different race. I think that’s what a lot of U.S. citizens forget about their history, that here in the states it’s basically (excuse the offense) drop of blood rule. One drop of blood and you’re black.
It’s the same thing that baffled me growing up how Kimora Lee Simmons, Mariah Carey and Alicia Keys were shown on television as black females. And I would look at them then look at me and be like “that can’t be so”, “that isn’t true”
Understand that, not everyone understands.
