"The world is... different." Oats's gaze went out across the haze, and the forests, and the purple mountains. "Everywhere I look I see something holy."
For the first time since he'd met her, he saw Granny Weatherwax smile properly. Normally her mouth went up at the corners just before something unpleasant was going to happen to someone who deserved it, but this time she appeared to be pleased with what she heard.
"That's a start then," she said.

i was going to put this in the tags of a post but it's better as it's own... there are a few discworld scenes that always, always without fail, give me chills every time i read them. no matter how many times i read the book, no matter that i know it's coming.
LORD, WHAT CAN THE HARVEST HOPE FOR, IF NOT FOR THE CARE OF THE REAPER MAN?
the scene in Jingo in which Vimes, having a dis-organizer from the wrong leg of the trousers of time, begins to hear what would have happened if he hadn't left ankh-morpork. the deaths of everyone he cares about, one by one, in a brutal conflict.
"That's what people say when the voiceless speak."
esme weatherwax, trapped in the endless hall of mirrors, told she can escape "WHEN YOU FIND THE ONE THAT'S REAL." she just looks down at herself and says, "this one."
God I forgot about that last one. So good.
"When you've made up your mind to shout out who you are to the world, it's a relief to know that you can do it in a whisper."

I think the kid Wax rescued from torture in the BoM prologue is Wayne.
A) Wax is 42 at the start of AoL, he met 16-year-old Wayne 16 years previously, so that makes them ~10 years apart. Wax in the Village is 15, and the kid is ~5, which is also ~10 years age gap.
B) Who would be more interesting to torture than a gold feruchemist who could heal from it?
C) Wayne is quite comfortable in the Village, and doesn’t really get how money works, preferring to trade for things he wants.
D) The immediate cut to the Dynamic Duo in the present is part of the prologue, instead of of starting Chapter One.
SEE I’M NOT THE ONLY ONE!!!!
I actually never realized this wasn't explicit. I too thought it was Wayne!
Don't worry guys, I backed the Kickstarter now that we're two weeks in. They *just* might make it!

One of the biggest decisions I face in 2022 is how to pace my Mistborn reread before The Lost Metal.
Wayne: Ah, it’s alright mate. Two out of three people won’t even feel this.
Rando target: *visibly relaxes* Ah.. Okay..
Wax, leveling his gun: Those two people are me and Wayne.
Wayne: Tough break, mate. Looks like you’re unlucky number three.
Brandon???
Using "Joe Manchin" as a swear at this point.
Sigh.
I'm surprised every week at how much I'm enjoying Hawkeye.

The trouble with being a god is that you’ve got no one to pray to.
Terry Pratchett, Small Gods
They are the small gods— the spirits of places where two ant trails cross, the gods of microclimates down between the grass roots. And most of them stay that way. Because what they lack is belief. A handful, though, go on to greater things. Anything may trigger it. A shepherd, seeking a lost lamb, finds it among the briars and takes a minute or two to build a small cairn of stones in general thanks to whatever spirits might be around the place. Or a peculiarly shaped tree becomes associated with a cure for disease. Or someone carves a spiral on an isolated stone. Because what gods need is belief, and what humans want is gods. Often it stops there. But sometimes it goes further. More rocks are added, more stones are raised, a temple is built on the site where the tree once stood. The god grows in strength, the belief of its worshipers raising it upwards like a thousand tons of rocket fuel. For a very few, the sky’s the limit. And, sometimes, not even that.
Terry Pratchett, Small Gods
Also I guess Paul is ta'veren or whatever.
I just hit a point in Dune where it's clear that Frank intended to write more than one book. I have no idea if Brian Herbert and Kevin Anderson took it in a good direction and honestly don't intend to do so. It's fun to see some of the grandness of scope Herbert had in mind for Paul though.
