I've been getting into Date Everything! lately, and to say I'm obsessed with Scandalabra is an understatement. I was so confused on why I ended up liking him because he's so far off from the characters I usually end up liking a lot.
Turns out it was just this guy all along. THE Bleach character of all time for me.
I say we need less old man, victorian ghost trope and more modern ghost trope. The ghost that haunt you is a hot 17th century ghost??? WRONG, you're getting haunted by a ghost that cried on MCR's disband, was on deviantart, and had an unholy amount of band vinyls.
A little bit of rant about Vialism as a religion and its relation to DEMA's citizens under.
TW // Mentions of sui ideation!!
I had a conversation with my non clikkie friend about top lore and she asked me about Vialism, "If the religion there tells you that the only way to paradise is self destruction, then why does DEMA still have citizens in it?" And it genuinely made me think. Why didn't the citizen just kill themselves immediately if its the only way to Paradise?
I understand the "the people of course wanted to spend time with families and friends, so they didn't do it until they feel like they're ready", but I feel like there could be more. I believe that Dema is some kind of a religious country/city where laws are made based off religion or put religion over everything. And if that's the case, then the teaching of Vialism will be planted deep inside the subconscious of the citizens because it has become a culture. Especially if Dema is an old city, which means the culture have been passed on from generations to generations. Which could mean one thing, the people that are born in Dema will have Vialism planted in the minds of little children so they are expected to commit to Vialism as soon as possible.
"But aru, that's disturbing," But if Dema IS a religious country, then that's what most likely going to happen, especially in this case, Vialism is everything in Dema. I myself live in a religious country, its a culture and it's not easy to uproot a culture that has been continuously taught to you all your life. There will be times where Mothers teach their little children about Vialism and be dissappointed if they don't follow.
But if this is the case, Dema wouldn't even have any citizens left. This tells me that Vialism has a deeper system than just "self destruction is the only way to paradise" That prevents citizens from just committing early.
The best Idea I could think of is reverse Dante's Inferno. If in Vialism, the bar is self destruction, just committing will give you a place in the lowest circle of Paradise. Which means, there is a list of rules or commandment you have to follow, the more you did them in your life, the higher layer of Paradise you end up in. This also give possibilities for the citizens who feel guilty for following the commandment and end up as a Bandito.
This Tyler fanart while I yap about some cultural inspiration I took drawing this
The blue attire he's wearing is actually an official attire for what the people of Yogyakarta call, "Abdi Dalem", which is a certain group of people that work for the royal family here in Yogyakarta.
The blue suit is something we call "baju pranakan" (pranakan has the literal meaning of womb, but in this it means the "abdi dalem" has become a member to the royal family). The blue top especially has the striped motive called "lurik telupat", or "lurik telu-papat" in Javanese. The lower part that looks like a skirt is not actually a skirt, its something that we call, "jarik". Its a singular piece of traditional batik, wrapped around your waist, tied with something we call "Stagen" and "Lonthong", adorned with our traditional weapon, "Keris". (You can see it in the back) The headpiece he's wearing is what we call "blangkon". It has the philosophical meaning of keeping yourself in check and humility.
The existence of Abdi Dalem actually still exist up to this day. In fact, despite being a Republic country, The Special Region of Yogyakarta is still one of the few regions in Indonesia that's ruled by a king instead of a governor (they still answer to the president) with the existence of the Keraton Sultanate.
(Actual pictures of these "Abdi Dalem")
And the smaller picture, the little paper figure wears a modified version of a suit called "beskap", which is more commonly used among the people, but in formal occasions, it is mostly used by the royal family and/or the people in charge of the government business.
The pose I used was inspired by the older Javanese customs on how to meet the king in person or anyone with significantly higher position than you are (preferably someone who rules). I have no actual proof of this nor that I know specifically if this is still used today, but if you are curious on how this looked actually, I recommend you to watch the movie adaptation of "Bumi Manusia".
And lastly, most of the time these suits are being kept clean by the Abdi Dalem for the sake of looking proper, but the ink stains are entirely because I love the idea of Blurry's ink just stains literally everything.
Just wondering, but would any of you be interested in a joshler fic with an Indonesian cultural/historical backgrounds? (Mostly Javanese, because I am Javanese)
I have some thoughts about Torchbearer that probably have zero chance to be canon, but I just think that its really cool.
It'll be so cool if Torch was actually a Bishop. The first Bandito to escape DEMA was actually a bishop. It would really make sense because he had reign over the city, nobody would really question him when he planned his way to escape until one day he just dissappeared. That was the first great betrayal the Bishops faced, so they erased every trace of Torch within their system so nobody really knew him anymore. But he planted seeds of ideas, maybe hope, that there's a life outside of DEMA's walls. So more Banditos started escaping.
This would make sense why Torch has the psychic ability to literally plant himself into the minds of escaping Banditos to show them the way out. Also why other Banditos just made him their leader. And why he's just really really mysterious.
Omg WHAT IF TORCHBEARER WAS ANDRE? ANDRE IS LISTED AS ONE OF THE ORIGINAL BISHOPS BUT IN ONE OF THE FPE EVENTS (if I remember correctly) HIS NAME WAS CROSSED OUT ON THE LIST OF BISHOPS WHAT IF ANDRE IS TORCHBEARER??? That would also explain why we have no other name for Torch!
It would also explain why he usually keeps his face covered when he’s close to Dema. And why he’s so personally invested in saving Clancy/helping Clancy escape!
I’ve had the theory before that Torch was a bishop but I kinda ditched it when we turned to Clancy being a bishop, but it would actually be so cool if Torch used to be a bishop too!

So the Crunchyroll newsroom isn't a "room" so much as a Slack channel. We have news writers all over the US, in Australia, and in Japan. This means we have something akin to 'round-the-clock coverage, but it also means that our schedules respective to each other are skewed. For example, when the East Coast contingent is starting their day, the Japan contingent is shutting down for the evening.
Because of that, we started experimenting with greetings that could apply when Party A was coming in for the morning and Party B was leaving for the night. One person came up with "konbarning": a combination of "good morning" and "konban wa" ("good evening" in Japanese). It stuck.
Over the following months, "konbarning" got shortened to "barning" and other permutations. Now, a year or some later, this is how we announce our arrival:
