Sense perception in religion: people see the beliefs in their society and are influenced by the community and beliefs in their own culture. Most people grow up in a religion that has been practiced for generations.

Christinaniy and Islam makes a person view and carry out many aspects of life in a more conservative way.

Forgiveness, for example is central to Christian faith, while in Islam it is not.

-God forgives any and all when asked, but humans must also forgive.

-Allah does not forgive except infrequently as an arbitrary act.

Culture: Latin vs. American Family Relationships

Latin Culture:

·        Extended family

·        Grandparents, parents, and children may live in the same household or nearby.

·        Cooperativeness

·        Important role in life

·        Visits are frequent (not only weekend but week days too)

·        Strong bonds and frequent interaction

·        Grandparents are of great respect

·        Generally, Hispanic/Latino American children and adolescents learn to show respect for authority, the patriarchal family structure, and extended family members.

·        Parents often arrange for godparents or "companion parents" for the child, demonstrating the value Hispanic/Latinos place on adults other than the immediate parents. These companion parents also have a right to give advice and correction and should be responsive to the child's needs.

·        Not only the close relatives are included in family events, but the bigger the better

·        Take care of each other as something mandatory

·        Education is highly valued

·        Aunt, grandparents, uncle’s house is just as yours

American Culture:

·        Father, mother, son, daughter relationship

·        Visit grandparents in special occasions

·        Trips are usually only immediate family not the entire family with uncles and grandparents

·        Independent

·        Usually 1-3 children

·        Common that the father and mother are employed the entire time

·        Almost no family companies or work

·        Kids are more likely to leave to college and become independent earlier

·        Inappropriate to show at someone’s house without calling before and planning a special time and date

Culture: total accumulation of an identifiable group’s beliefs, norms, activities, institutions and communication patterns.
