Felicity sits on the throne that is now essentially hers: the brat Phaedrus has been gone for days. She can only assume he is still stupidly searching for her dead brother, or perhaps, blessedly, he has been taken by nature or the mountain wolves. Such news would be thrilling to hear on a day like today, when she remains blind-sided by the contents of Pierce’s will and testament. The handover of the crown did not come without conditions. All reasonable and expected, apart from one thing: the clause for an arranged marriage.

The ascent of my successor shall be sealed by a betrothal to one Prince Theodore; this will solidify the strong alliance between our two countries.

Felicity knows Prince Theo - he is a longtime friend of Perceval’s, and though she has only met him once or twice, she can’t say they might get along. Particularly if he is prepared for a wedding to a now-deceased young man. She herself is none too excited with the idea, but there are always new avenues she can explore to change her fate. She awaits his arrival with perfect etiquette - the first official encounter must take place in public. The hall is filled with palace staff, the guards in all their finery, courtiers, and as many commoners who could squeeze in at the sidelines. As the doors creak open and Theo enters with his own entourage, she stands to watch him walk toward her. A herald, dressed in gold braid, addresses her primarily, yet loud enough to announce to the crowd.

“…Your Majesty. May I introduce Theodore, your future Prince Consort.”

The rules dictate Felicity’s actions - it is customary for the foreigner to kneel on the throne steps and kiss the hand of their soon-to-be spouse. With a painted look of stoicity on her face, she extends her arm to permit this. At the very least, she is not engaged to an ugly specimen.

“—Greetings, Prince Theodore.”

Theo is least aware of the current state of once-Pierce’s country. He had learned of his passing, yes, but he expects Perceval to be at the throne. It is his every intention to be Perceval’s balance; he is more level-headed, more capable of leading two merged countries. His lover had not answered his last letter, though– the first flag raised that something might be amiss.

He doesn’t expect Felicity to be standing at the throne steps. The shock does not stain his face, though– he starts his way toward her instead. Once they are left to speak in private, then he can find some answers to all the questions thickening the air. Theo kneels down before her, taking her hand and giving it a delicate, chaste kiss.

“Hello, Queen Felicity.”
