the new taylor swift album is so much better when you don't have someone in your ear telling you she's not a good lyricist
the tragedy of the vampire diaries is that everyone loved elena so much that they did everything they could do to protect her. and they gave so much and traumatised themselves so much that they started hating her for it. and the worst part is that elena kept asking them NOT to do this.
today is sebastian's birthday, happy aries season
started rewatching arrow from the beginning and here are some things about effie that i've forgotten about over the years:
it takes her about a year before she can hug her mother again after the island. she hides behind oliver a lot. people think she's scared, that she's just not acclimated to society. she really just doesn't think she deserves the warmth of her mother's love. moira calls her her baby girl, and effie can see nothing but the blood on her hands.
she's genuinely unlikeable. she's bitchy and she's rude and she says what everyone else is too afraid to say. she judges her sister for being an airhead heiress, she pushes her mother away out of guilt, and she's even more ruthless than oliver is when he first becomes the arrow.
oliver was a person before the island, effie was not. she doesn't have a moral compass to fall back on or a persona that she can adapt because she was just a child on the island. it honestly takes until she moves to central city and befriends barry & co. before she lightens up. she really needs a therapist.
despite this, the code names were effie's idea. she insists that oliver call her artemis, and she eventually calls him arrow. she doesn't call him apollo, despite taking the names from the famous siblings because it's too easy to connect it to them. she is the one that calls the arrow cave the quiver. it's easier for her to joke with her brother than anyone else, really.
in episode 1x05 / 06 when oliver gets arrested for being the arrow, something that he and effie staged themselves. she remains hidden in the shadows until oliver is arrested, and then makes her appearance in the hood on the opposite side of the city. from this moment on, she is his partner and a member of the team. this coincides with the flashbacks in this episode that reveal that effie has been alive this whole time. while oliver thought he was the only survivor of the gambit capsizing, effie washed up on lian yu concurrently as him, but was discovered by fyres and his men. she makes the same plea that oliver makes, money, compensation, safe returns, but eventually gets locked into their prison cages, and stays there until they know what to do with her. unfortunately they decided that she was most useful as bait for oliver to comply.
this gives an even more emotional sentinment to the polygraph that oliver takes. because it wasn't him that they tortured, it was his baby sister. and it was a heavy guilt and horrible burden they carried. of course he didn't want to talk about it. carrying the shame that comes with not being able to protect her.
effie is so good with a bow she never misses. i promise you she did not miss. if she misses you, that was a warning and you have nowhere to run.
"do you have experience with high net worth individuals" one time I offended the wife of the richest man in the UK by asking if she wanted more chili oil on her pizza.
when logan told her family to forget about her and run during a monster attack, it only worked on her father because he is a hearing person and understands English. her little brother is deaf and only communicates through asl and so her power didn't affect him. he still remembers logan and has no idea what happened that day. he can't see through the mist, he thinks their dad and her got into such a huge fight that she ran away and he never spoke about her again.
howl pendragon is so apollo coded
inquiring minds would like to know. what does logan's ambrosia and nectar taste like?
just wanted to say that this ask made me grin and i've been thinking about it since i got it.
logan's ambrosia and nectar would taste less like something specific and more like a memory. she grows up deep in adirondack mountains in upstate new york in a large cabin home with her mortal father and her little brother. because they grew up isolated, the three of them spent a lot of time together. her father would take her and her brother camping all the time, teaching them how to start fires and pitch tents. he would tell logan campfire stories, which she would translate into ASL for her little brother.
and so i think that her ambrosia and nectar would taste like a mix of campfire foods. s'mores (for the non americans: cinnamon, marshmallow, chocolate), charred hamburgers, the smell of smoking pine wood. it would taste like sitting on a log, dirty sneakers, and her exaggerated facial expressions. it would taste like her little brother's natural laugh that hasn't been tainted by outside influence and pure silliness.
***these memories and these survival skills that she learned from her mortal father are actually the reason she gravitates towards cities and urban areas. while she can survive in the woods by herself and has the means to do it, using those talents is more painful than not. especially knowing that her family doesn't remember her at all. it's easier for her to forget them too. she only really allows herself to think about them when she needs a&n, because their memory comforts her injured self.
as always, a bisexual man. at the scene of the crime.
unemployed life has treated me well I have done nothing but knit scarves and listen to audiobooks.
Sebastian adjacent art I can't stop thinking about
i looooove characters who are sacrificial lamb coded. characters who have never lived for themselves. characters born to be a tool, a weapon, a sacrifice, all of the above. a character raised by the heroes to save the world, at any expense, even their own health, even their own life. a character raised by the villains to end the world, at any expense, even their own health, even their own life. characters who are denied personhood so they can be used as tools instead. characters who never even had a chance to be people because they were shaped into something else from the moment they were born. characters who were born to die.
sorry I didn't text you back I'm character developing into a villain
the sun inside of him could set kingdoms ablaze. he asks me to face the flames. find me in the ashes. - apollo, emily palermo
i am a cut bowstring, aching for his touch. this internal shrine grows very warm.
i am almost completely on board with all the changes happening to the pjo show, i understand that it's an adaptation and that they will change some things for a visual perspective, and i am patient and understanding with the concepts because i want this show to do well, and i want it to reach it's potential, but one thing that keeps bothering me is how these kids know what they're getting into, they know what the traps are before they walk into them. and i just think that's so fucking stupid for story telling purposes. like this is an introduction to greek mythology, and even if percy did grow up knowing the stories, i just think that when they're translated to modern america, these traps are supposed to be harder to recognize and kind of ruins the point of it being a teaching moment if the kids don't need to be taught about it. also i really wanted the lotus casino episode to be a filler episode where they had some fun before the big bad battle scenes and we did not get it
