Because he's lowkey the justice seeker (Batman) of the game, he and Ryoba has different types of morals yet somehow the same in actions.

Ryoba does bad action (stalking) for bad intention (getting her senpai and ruin most of people's lives);

Meanwhile the journalist does the same bad action (stalking) but for good intention (gaining evidence to put killer in jail).

And now in America... their role are somehow switched.

Ryoba needs to act more like him (detective-like) in order to find him;

Meanwhile the journalist needs to act more like her (selfish-like) by loosing his moral compass pieces to pieces for him to do some bad actions (like stealing, lies, and manipulations) in order to keep himself alive, survive from her hunt.

The ongoing long cliffhanger story of Ryoba and her husband Jokichi went overseas to hunt down the journalist is killing me, It's been so long no new updates of whatever happen to them there in America. Aight I'mma do it myself.

Climax of the story:

After countless cat & mouse games of hunting, survival, and battles of wits across America, the x-journalist stood trembling, gun in hand, staring at the lifeless body of the monster who had haunted his life. She lay sprawled on the cold concrete floor of a dark, abandoned warehouse, blood slowly pooling beneath her, painting the ground red. But even in death, Ryoba wasn’t gone. He couldn’t escape the endless nightmares, paranoia, the hallucinations, the constant, suffocating feeling of her warning presence still lingering beside him. She had already ended him from the inside out. Though he had managed to kill her body, she had killed his mind long ago. And now, he refuses to let her keep him chained in the prison of his own thoughts. He refuses to be A MIND SLAVE TO THE PERSON WHO WAS ALIVE JUST A MOMENT AGO!!! With hollow eyes and a dark, calm vacancy on his face, he stared one last time at the criminal he had come to know too well. Then he quickly raised the gun to the side of his own head. It wasn’t out of weakness, but out of desperation. His final attempt to break free from Ryoba completely. A single shot rang out, followed by the dead silence of the night. He didn’t surrender to her control. He rebelled. The only way to tear her roots from his mind, the only way he could ever be truly free from the psycho, was by cutting the loose string of hers. (Their deaths were broadcast on the news the next morning by Jokichi calling the cops.)

Long story short:

Out of anger & desperation for revenge, Ryoba turned the journalist into a mindslave, a tactic she really despise (because it reminded her of her own neglectful mother and her poor hollowshell of a father) but Ryoba is willingly enough to use it as her last resort. After her unexpected death by him before he becomes fully mindless to her. If he didn't end himself quickly, he will be sitting there next to the dead person for the rest of his entire life, waiting for a single command he will never get. As for Jokichi... He finally free from his yandere wife and going back to Japan to peacefully taking care of his family by giving his beloved daughter Ayano a happy life.

The journalist despises Ryoba nicknaming him 'Mr. (X)-Journalist' because she's the one who got himself fired from his dream career and now constantly reminding him of his past while on her mission of revenge, chasing after him all over the place in America.
