How to distract a Cassie: give her blue sherbet ice cream, tell her it’s turned her tongue blue then watch as she goes cross-eyed trying to see it.

How does Kris always seem to have cute girls fawning over him? What’s his secret?

Pretty sure you’ve tagged the wrong Kris.
.sophisticxtedgrace:
Anna didn’t often tend to look where she was going. She wished she had an excuse for this, or at least Belle’s talent to read and walk without bumping into people. But the fact was, the overexcited redhead was often so eager to be zigging and zagging back and forth to places, that often she overlooked certain obstacles, such as street lamps, small children, fire hydrants - the list went on and on and on. She had bruises from bumping into just about everything. Although, today, her own ridiculous nature wasn’t exactly at fault.
Who was at fault, one might ask? Well, his hair was a dashing shade of ginger - much prettier than hers, she had often thought - his cheekbones were to die for, and his hands… well, his hands were currently wrapped around her elbow, pulling her upright as she looked to see just what she’d tripped over. Letting out a blustery giggle, Anna brought her hands to her mouth, hoping to partially obscure the red tinge in her cheeks. The girl had been nodding along so vigorously that she’d failed to notice the step up to the doorway of Grand Pabbie’s, or in fact, that they’d arrived at Grand Pabbie’s at all.
Pulling her eyebrows together in agitation, she stared at the sign overhead, as though willing it to change by sheer force of will. Despite this establishment holding just about everything a sweet tooth, future diabetic could dream of, Anna was having serious reservations about making a stop there. Something tugged in an irritating manner at her heartstrings, and that something was a tall, clumsy footed, dumb haired blonde boy who no doubt had a scowl in store for her. Anna didn’t want to see the dissappointment on his face, nor the subtle reminder that the two of them were in a scrap over Hans. She took a step back, colliding with Hans as she did so, and once again, the boy helpfully placed a hand on her arm.
“Th… thank you.” she stumbled over her words, meekly. Letting her eyes flutter shut for a fraction of a second, she tried to focus on the comforting press of the pads of Hans’ fingers. He had her, despite being just as clumsy as her, he’d always catch her. He did stick up for her, he did, in fact, care about her wellbeing. And hope and happiness blossomed in her chest at this realisation. One look at him, and how could Anna really doubt how much he liked her? That was all that mattered, and I guess it sucked to be Kris Solberg.
Pushing her way into the shop with a determined air, Anna listened out for the familiar bell that chimed over her head, signalling her arrival. She jutted her chin into the air haughtily, finding she didn’t care who saw her come in. In fact, in a quick flash of anger she quickly fought to subdue, she kinda hoped Kris saw.
To her disappointment, in the midst of the young couple laughing and playing, a boy only slightly unfamiliar to her appeared. Unfamiliar in that she had yet to learn his name. Her ignorance made her blanch slightly as she rubbed the tip of her nose, it still feeling slightly cold from the smear of ice cream that had been left there moments earlier. The desire to ask about the usual sullen-faced purveyor of ice cream was strong, but Anna was proud of how she managed to hold her tongue.
Hans inevitably took his leave, but Anna wasn’t sore about it. The guy was busy, and he’d spent the whole day with her. Before meeting Belle and Rae, Anna didn’t think anyone had ever done that for her. She instead pulled her feet up onto the chair, hugging her knees to her chest and pushing around the leftover ice cream in her bowl, feeling severely sick from all the scoffing she’d done.
A minute passed, then two, of Anna pulling at the loose threads on her jeans. She supposed she ought to get up, go home, before someone saw her sitting alone and had something to say about it. She should walk Olaf and Marshmallow, before it got dark. She should make sure Elsa had eaten something, she always did work too hard.
Pulling herself to a standing position, Anna felt suddenly bowled over as she was hit, rather sickeningly, with a bout of dizziness.
“Whoa.” she mumbled, splaying her hands out in front of her, as though the mere motion might keep her upright. She was familiar with this feeling, but it never made it suck any less, and the dizziness was the worst, making her feel like the whole room was made of wibbly, swimmy material that danced and changed before her very eyes.
Giving in to the sick feeling in her head, Anna slumped back down, putting her hand over her chest and rubbing frantic circles against the fabric of her shirt. It had never done her any good before, but it felt kinda good to be doing something.
When she heard her name, Anna lifted her head meekly, embarrassed to find Kris watching her, a frown solidly planted on his face. The sight made Anna want to laugh, for she’d expected that look, but not under these circumstances. She found she was too short of breath to even attempt it.
“I’m okay,” she tried to tell him, although her words sounded strained and raspy. “Anna’s okay! Just… a little ouchie.”
As much as Anna claimed she was okay, she didn’t look it. Her face twisted painfully as she clutched at her chest and Kris knew there was something going on there, but was too worried about being intrusive to ask. He liked to think that he’d done his bit; worrying after her well-being only to be told that it was unnecessary. Up until the word ‘ouchie’.
“Ouchie?” he echoed, his frown deepening. Hearing that word from Anna wasn’t as rare as it should have been, because the girl had a real talent for giving herself an ‘ouchie’ in completely normal situations. Kris had never thought that another human being could exist at the exact same time as Steven and present themselves as an equal match in clumsiness, but then Anna Abrahamsen had tripped and stumbled into his life and Kris had seen cause to debate wearing a hard hat whenever he was in the same vicinity as his cousin or his friend. Well, that had been when he and Anna had actually still been friends. Now he only really had to be concerned about Steven, which was something he’d been doing for the past twenty or so years.
This time, he was pretty sure that Anna’s invisible pain wasn’t from a trip or a spill though. All she’d been doing for the past thirty minutes was sitting and listening to Hans drawl on and on, which would have been enough to give Kris a migraine, but apparently Anna was content to while away her day like that. He could hear the hitch in Anna’s breath though, and tilted his head to the side.
“Are you sure you’re...” Don’t bother her, idiot. He scolded himself internally, because he was probably the last person that Anna would want help from right now. She’d probably prefer it if Hans were here to take care of her, even though Kris figured the other guy had the same capacity for comfort as a porcupine. And that was a tall statement coming from someone as emotionally stunted as Kris Solberg. Hovering uselessly by Anna’s table, wondering whether or not to fetch someone, he backed up a little bit to give the redhead her space.
“Uh, okay. So, I guess I’ll just be over here if you need me...” he ventured slowly, half-heartedly jabbing his thumb over his shoulder. He took another step back and turned to wipe down the table next to Anna’s, even though Steven had already pretty much taken care of that. Every so often, Kris would glance back at Anna but her facial expression didn’t change. With a subtle grimace, he stared longingly out the window to the street outside where life wasn’t awkward then decided to swallow his pride and turned back to Anna.
“Anna, seriously, what’s up? You look like you’re in pain and you’re breathing funny,” he said, picking up on her laboured breaths. Biting his lip. he crouched down so he was at eye level with the girl in the chair and raised his eyebrows at her. “Do you need me to call someone?”
.havecourageandbekxnd:
Ella flushed profusely, ducking her head and crinkling her nose meekly as she was fawned over. It was an entirely new concept, in all honesty. Ella wasn’t exactly used to people fighting to compliment her, or scrabbling for her attention. Usually, if she misheard an order, or one of her step mother’s shrill cries went unheard, all that Lady Tremaine ever needed to do to capture Ella’s notice was smash a plate, spill her coffee, or – dare Ella even recall such a ghastly act – kick the cat. She knew just how to get Ella to snap to, meaning the girl very rarely let things go unnoticed. She was constantly vigilant, listening out for orders and requests, catching snippets of conversations that weren’t meant for her (usually resulting in her being reprimanded), and hearing the crass, hurtful words that were being spat her way.
In all honesty, Ella felt terribly sorry for her step sisters. She hated to take pity on anybody, knowing that many saw it as a sign of weakness, and an insult of some variety, but she really did feel quote rotten when she thought of their upbringing. While the girls weren’t always particularly kindly to her, and often mistreated her to the degree that she found herself holed up in her bedroom, knees to her chest, eyes squeezed shut as she tried to remind herself to breathe, she also knew it was only a side effect of the way that their own mother had treated them. They’d never known the same compassion that Ella had, and hadn’t had the fortune of being exposed to that same unconditional love that her parents had endlessly shown her. It was really quite awful, and she often wished there was something that she could do.
Staring around her at Kris’ family, the way they poked and prodded, presumably sticking their noses in where they weren’t wanted (if the colour of Kris’ cheeks was anything to go by), she couldn’t help but smile fondly. While her own anxiety and the growing humiliation that came with being the centre of attention weren’t entirely a comfort, she couldn’t help but find it all very sweet. While it seemed his family hadn’t quite grasped the concept of personal space and boundaries, there was no doubt in her mind that it all came from a place of love, and that they only wanted the best for the boy beside her. All that Ella could do was remain glued to the spot, smiling and nodding where appropriate, and insisting that Kris was very helpful, and very lovely, and really quite the gentleman! It was all entirely true, of course, and she felt no shame in lifting the boy up, though she hoped she wasn’t furthering his embarrassment in any capacity.
With one hand clasped firmly around her shopping basket – now newly, and far more sturdily, packed and organised so as not to cause another scene – she lifted the other to cover her lips, shielding her mouth from view. She didn’t want Kris to think she was laughing at him, though the smile on her features was definitely a mixture of her own amusement and nervousness.
When his mother – or, rather, she could only assume – insisted that he’d soon be lonely if he we didn’t start charming girls, Ella let out a rather unflattering snort, choking and spluttering on mere air as she tried to take in the other woman’s words. She couldn’t possibly be taking about Ella! Trying to regain composure, she found herself ever stumbling forward ever so slightly as a strong hand clapped her on the back – another member of their entourage, it seemed – and heard a flurry of voices eagerly asking her if she was okay, did she need a drink of water, should they phone an ambulance?!! Taken aback by their sudden concern, Ella cleared her throat, shaking her head wildly as she tried to wave away their worries.
Instead, she turned her attention back to Kris, the red of his cheeks no doubt matching her own. Wide eyed, and altogether quite flustered, she glanced meekly down at her shopping, and wondered just how severe of a scolding she was in for when she did eventually find her way back to the Tremaine manor.
“That sounds… lovely,” Ella told him, her voice coming out in almost a squeak. Kris did seem like a perfectly lovely boy, so the idea of spending her time in his company actually seemed like a great way to spend her time, so she only hoped that the tremble of her knees and the flush of her cheeks wouldn’t deter him too much. Hopefully he’d understand that it wasn’t personal.
Deciding that it was best to get moving, so as to give Kris a break from his family, and to put their minds to rest, she nodded her head gently, gesturing towards the end of the aisle, hoping he’d take the lead.
“The sooner we go, the… more time we get to spend in each other’s company?” she suggested, her voice weak. She figured that the sooner they left, the sooner they could actually relax, but his family weren’t to know that, and she felt awfully guilty at even thinking such a horrid thought!
Kris hoped that Ella knew he was only asking because his mom had told him to. Not because there was anything wrong with asking Ella for coffee, because it wasn’t like she wasn’t pretty or the exact kind of girl that would leave Steven tongue-tied with his hand hovering over a Bunsen burner, but because he didn’t want her to feel pressured to say ‘yes’. Girls weren’t lining up to have coffee with Kris Solberg, after all.
The offer hung in the air until Ella managed to choke out what sounded like a forced acceptance and Kris’ cheeks burned when cheers erupted from his surrounding family members. Any onlookers would have thought he had gone down on one knee and proposed next to the jars of pasta sauce judging by his family’s reaction. He wanted nothing more than to bury his face in his hands and make his way back home, but it now seemed like he had a coffee date with an unwilling girl.
When Ella gestured towards the end of the aisle, he figured that her eagerness to get going had nothing to do with getting coffee with him and everything to do with escaping the overly affectionate clutches of his aunt who now seemed fascinated by the task of braiding tiny little plaits into Ella’s hair.
“Okay, let’s get going!” he announced loudly so Aunt Bulda would stop… whatever it was she was doing and free Ella. He shuffled backwards, his little cousin still attached to his leg, and began shaking his foot roughly, letting his irritation show.
“Annika. I can’t take Ella for coffee if you’re sitting on my foot, can I?” he warned through gritted teeth. That soon made the girl jump up and scarper and he breathed a heavy sigh of relief as she ran over to her father instead and climbed her way up his taller frame. Kris pointedly ignored the suggestive wink his uncle sent him and concentrated on getting Ella out of there instead. With a brief nod to his family, he lead her down the aisle and away from the chaos.
“Offer her your arm!” one of his aunts called from behind the retreating pair. Given that it wasn’t the regency era, Kris opted to ignore this but held his hand out for Ella’s basket instead.
“Here, I’ll carry that for you,” he said so she could transfer the weight of her items onto him instead. It seemed to satisfy his family as he could hear their squeals of approval from the bottom of the aisle where he sent Ella a pained sideways glance and quickly ducked into the next aisle.
He turned to the girl abruptly and winced, “I am so sorry,” he cringed. There probably weren’t enough apologies in the world. “I don’t know why they’re like that, but they’ve been obsessed with my love life ever since I turned like, thirteen. Are your family like that? Probably not. Mine are insane.”
He heaved out a sigh and offered Ella a helpless shrug. “Look, please don’t think you actually need to get coffee with me,” he told her, letting her know she absolutely had an out. Not wanting her to think him rude though, he quickly corrected himself. “I mean, I have ten dollars here and the cafeteria isn’t really expensive so I can buy you whatever you want but… trust me, this doesn’t have to be a date or anything. Just maybe an apology for my crazy family.”
TEXT: FLYNN
Kris: Happy birthday. Hope you're doing okay.
.glistenslikegxld:
“WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!”
Cassie giggled. And then she giggled some more. And then, oh, you betcha, you guessed it, she totally giggled some more! Spinning, and spinning, and spinning until she felt as though she were flying, Cassie spread her arms out wide, stretching them as far as they could manage, and let her skates do all the work. The ice beneath her was reliable; where many other loves of her life had been torn from her grips – from Gabriel, to her mother, to gymnastics and many more – the ice had always been reliable. Ice and snow, they hadn’t ever let her down. She whirled around on the spot, with no real goal. There were no 3 turns to be performed, no axel jumps to conquer, nor a Beillmann spin to perfect; no, she was just spinning and spinning until she could spin no more. And golly, it was super fun!
Beaming from ear to ear, she finally allowed herself to slow down, each spin getting less dizzying – and so less fun – as the rink started to materialise (that’s a word she learned from Doctor Who!!!) around her. There wasn’t really anybody around today – Perrie was spending the day with Fionn and Riley was spending the day with Joy (how crazy that they’re all related!!!!!) and Ned had football practice and Anna was avoiding Kris because Cassie was pretty sure that Kris liked Anna but Anna liked JP but also Nick but also Hans who was her boyfriend and Hans probably liked Anna but he definitely didn’t like Kris which was fine because he didn’t like him either – which meant that it was just Cassie, Kris, and Steven wasting their day on the ice today. Or, Cassie and Kris. Steven was up in the stands trying to untie the lace of his skates from one of the seats – Cassie wasn’t sure how he’d gotten all tied up, but she’d giggled so much until her tummy hurt, and even Kris had worn his super handsome smile at the sight of him, and the two of them had eventually decided to leave him to it and do their own thing.
Steven didn’t seem to mind, so that was cool, and Cassie sort of thought it was funny not always being the one doing stupid things.
“Kris! Kriiis!! Kriiiiiiiiiiiiiissssss!!!!!!” Cassie called out as her body finally came to a halt, her left knee bent as her toe dipped forward, the front of her boot propped against the ice. Sure, Cassie was a bit of a dummy, and she was real good on the ice too, but she wasn’t going to let herself make any extra mistakes that might end in an ouchy!
Kris was on the other end of the ice, and she couldn’t tell if he was ignoring her, or if he just couldn’t hear her, and so she figured there was no better time to go and find out! Shaking her head, she kicked her heel back and began gliding across the surface until she pulled up beside him. Playfully, she nudged him on the shoulder to catch his attention.
“HEY THERE GOOFBALL,” she cried out, giggling. “I think ya need your ears testing, Kris Kross!!!!!!!”
Smiling to herself, she began circling the boy, twirling delightedly around him, making little jumps and kicks here and there. “Did ya see me? Did ya see? I span for ages and ages and ages and I didn’t stop or fall or hurt myself and I think I even broke my record because I counted and I got to 80 whole spins and I totally could have gone for longer but I wanted to see if you were watching but then I couldn’t see you and… DID YA SEE? Did ya hear me? It was super fun!!!!!!”
The aim of the trip to the rink was to have fun. Kris had been told that more than a few times by both Cassie and Steven but his sub-conscious either wasn’t paying attention or was just as stubborn as his fully present form tended to be. Instead of whizzing around the rink like his friends or even brooding over certain pretty redheads - Cassie’s words, 100% not his - Kris was reflecting on his hockey team’s progress over the last few weeks. Or rather, their lack of progress.
They’d been dealt blow after blow, loss after loss, players dropping like flies and morale dropping even lower. When Steven wasn’t getting tangled up in the goals, he was being flattened like roadkill by a much bigger member of the opposing team. Riley was either fully focused on a game, or she zoned in and out no matter how much she tried, Ned kept getting called away for football practise, Fionn was still dealing with his bad break and Kris himself had hardly been in the right mindset for winning a game lately. All in all, their stats were down and they barely had enough players to fill up a roster. If they needed subs next week, they were done for. If anyone called out before the game, the league wouldn’t let them play so they’d have to bow out and risk their chances at advancing up the boards.
He scraped his blade against the ice beneath him, kicking up flecks of frost in his wake as he nudged at the puck next to his feet. It wasn’t like he’d ever thought that he’d make a career out of hockey, but it was one of the few things that Kris was actually good at, so he’d grown attached to the hobby and practically sprinted to the ice rink every week for a game, sneaking in practises whenever he could. He didn’t even think he’d actually realised how much he loved hockey until it was in danger of being taken away from him. What was that To Kill A Mockingbird quote about not loving breathing?
Sighing to himself, his ears picked up on the sound of someone giggling. Evidently, they were having a much better time than he was. Lifting his gaze to see Cassie spinning on the spot, he smirked to himself. He should have known.
Kris often thought that Cassie was too small to have so much happiness stored in such a tiny frame. He liked to think that’s why she oozed enthusiasm almost constantly, because her petite figure just couldn’t contain all that emotion. It had to come out at some point and for Cassie, that resulted in a never ending spiel of overexcited words. If he hadn’t known better, he would never have linked the graceful figure skater to the little blonde who was constantly in danger of tripping over her own enthusiasm. But there she was, kicking up ice as she spun and spun before gently coming to a halt.
If only his team had someone like that.
His eyebrows furrowed together in what was Kris’ odd version of an epiphany. There was no way that Cassie would willingly square up against a hulking hockey player from the offense line of another team, he knew that much, but just because she could make up the numbers for their team, it didn’t necessarily mean she had to properly play.
He was deep in thought when Cassie skated across, circling him and calling his name and he blinked himself out of his trance. Offering a sheepish smile, he lifted his gloved hands in surrender.
“My bad, my bad,” he conceded. “That was pretty awesome, Cass Glass.”
His tongue poked at the inside of his cheek as he momentarily lapsed back into his deep-thinking mode before he abruptly straightened up.
“Cass?” he called on her. “You think you can do that without breaking concentration? Even if a ton of burly guys and girls were skating around you?”
“You’ve got to be kidding,” Kris muttered to himself when they walked through the entrance. The classic bell-above-the-door, a staple in Cherry Grove’s small businesses, merrily chimed out the arrival of the couple and Kris, ignorant to their identity, raised his head to emit a dull and monotone “Welcome to Grand Pabbie’s” only for the words to die in his throat when he noticed just who had walked into his family’s ice cream shop.
He spotted Hans first, hair coiffed as ever, his shirt unwrinkled and his smile all toothy and smooth and completely false. Before Kris’ eyes darted to the young woman at his side, he took the time to hope that maybe the overly groomed douchebag had moved onto some other poor, unsuspecting girl that failed to see through his charms like Kris had. But nope, he recognised Anna before he fully took in the sight of her; maybe it was the bright orange of her hair or her giggle as she had a minor aneurysm and somehow thought that whatever drivel Hans was pedalling happened to be funny, or maybe it was the nose wrinkle, the feature screwed up as she grinned at the boy next to her.
Kris rolled his eyes and immediately turned his back on them, throwing his wet rag down on the table he’d been mopping and striding towards the back of the shop where Steven was stocking the fridges.
“I can do that if you wanna take over up front,” he offered. His cousin narrowed his eyes at Kris, but as soon as he heard a loud and cheerful, “Hans, that’s so funny!” the penny seemed to drop and he took pity on the big sulking blonde. Handing over a tub of rum and raisin, Steven made his way to the front of the shop to greet the pair and serve them with a bigger smile than Kris could ever hope to muster even if he was happy to see them.
He told himself that his actions weren’t completely unselfish, because he was pretty sure that Anna still didn’t want to talk to him anyway. He wasn’t sure how long this fall out would last for, mainly because Kris had never been involved in a spat like this. Being on the outs with his family was never an option and he’d never been particularly close to anyone else so the possibility of a fight had never been a threat. But he was still pretty sure that he and Anna were choosing to give each other the cold shoulder so he set his jaw and shoved tub after tub of ice cream into the refrigerators lining the back wall of the store, all the while pretending not to send the occasional glance to the front where Anna and Hans were locked in conversation, the boy booping his ice cream off the redhead’s nose so he could leave a chocolatey smudge there. It was sickening.
Kris had thought that maybe Belle, of all people, would side with him on this. The other girl was smart and, like Kris, she cared about Anna and held the girl’s best interests at heart. But apparently all it had taken was some smooth compliment from Hans to make even Cherry Grove’s finest intellect thinking he was some sort of saint sent to them by the Abercrombie gods. Couldn’t they see that everything he spouted was a lie? When he ‘accidentally’ dropped his ice cream cone in Grand Pabbie’s, his innocent ‘oops’ was dripping with sarcasm. When he asked after Anna’s sister, he seemed more concerned about Elsa’s loyalty to her role as mayor than actually getting to know his supposed girlfriend’s family. And as much as he claimed to think the world of Anna, where was he when internet trolls chased her and taunted her? No, Kris didn’t trust Han Westergaard at all, but no one was going to believe him when the other guy was swanning around the place looking like that.
Eventually, Kris heard Hans offer up a farewell to Anna and he raised his head to peer at their table. When the other boy left, Anna chose to linger and he wasn’t sure why but it wasn’t any of his business either and he told himself that he didn’t actually care about the off-chance she was waiting to talk to him, to see if they could maybe sort out this dumb fall out between the two of them.
Gently kicking the fridge door shut when he had stocked all the ice cream that he could, he wiped his cold and wet hands down the front of his knitted sweater – or maybe it was Steven’s, they both had the same penchant for ugly patterns given to them by their grandmother – he made his way up front, surreptitiously glancing at Anna who hadn’t seen him yet. Maybe it was because she was too busy rubbing at her chest like she was experiencing a bad bout of indigestion or heartburn, although Kris figured ice cream should have the opposite effect. When he noted the look of discomfort on her face, he frowned and forget that the two of them weren’t strictly on speaking terms at that moment.
“Anna?” he piped up. “You okay?”
Do you hate Anna?
Never said I did.
@krissolbergs: Ordering an ice cream just so you can deliberately drop it isn't 'charming'. It's rude.
@krissolbergs: But I guess it doesn't matter when everyone else thinks you can do no wrong.
How does Anna not realise that Hans is totally screwing her over?
(via cherrygrcvegossip)
Meaning?
(via sophisticxtedgrace)
Meaning you deserve better than him. What other way is there to put it?
Anna! Open your eyes! Why can’t you see the unmanly blondness before you?
(via cherrygrcvegossip)
Coiffed hair with too much gel is more her thing.
How does Anna not realise that Hans is totally screwing her over?
(via cherrygrcvegossip)
… You suck, Solberg.
(via sophisticxtedgrace)
And you deserve better than him.
How does Anna not realise that Hans is totally screwing her over?
(via cherrygrcvegossip)
You’re supposed to be happy for me. And know that I’m not dumb enough to be screwed over.
(via sophisticxtedgrace)
Is that what I’m supposed to do? Guess I didn’t get a copy of that handbook.
How does Anna not realise that Hans is totally screwing her over?
(via cherrygrcvegossip)
That’s really mean, Kris. Like, super mean. Hans is a really good person, and all my other friends are happy for me. Whoever wrote this is really bitter and jealous and mean. And I didn’t think you were mean.
(via sophisticxtedgrace)
I’m allowed to have an opinion.
