I remember back when I was a young libfem and first really struck by how badly women have it, my immediate response was to appeal to the humanity of men. I was so naive I thought that I could make boys and men have this revelation too. I thought that patriarchy was this evil structure that punished men and women alike but wasn't actually comprised of men like some kind of abstract prison. I tried to make the boys I knew understand and I was so surprised when they mocked me for saying, "teach boys not to rape". I remember thinking, don't they want to stop rape? Don't they see that boys and men are trapped in toxic masculinity? Then I realised. Men and boys know how bad things are, they know the harm it does women and girls, they mocked me because they know how bad rape is, but for most of them, even if they don't rape themselves, they don't even find it a deal breaker for friends. Men and boys don't fucking care, they don't want patriarchy dismantled, because it benefits them and they actively uphold it. I now realise I was playing in patriarchy's lie that men and boys are helpless to their culture. Men don't rape because of rape culture, rape culture exists because of rape. Men and boys create culture and patriarchy to suit their interests, if we don't acknowledge that it is men and boys causing the problems of their own free will then feminism will continue to grow stagnant as we spend all of our resources coddling and "educating" men and boys rather than actively supporting women and girls.
So I got this ad on youtube...
It’s for U.S. Cellular, specifically advertising how great their streaming service is. You can even , the guy in the ad says, stream hours of grass mowing.
And I go… “wait a minute…that sounds weird…why hasn’t this ad ended yet?”
And I look at the bottom.
the ad is seven hours long.
UPDATE
i’m half an hour in
the guy’s come back a couple times. his mower broke down and he went to get more gas. he came back and started it up again, drove around a few more times making comments about it being fun and “you still watchin? weird.” After a bit he took out a ruler and started measuring the grass.
He pulled out a book and a lawn chair and started reading, but he just left and said he’ll be back soon
he brought out an umbrella but it fell over so he left and came back and tried to fix it but it completely broke so he stalked off, dragging the chair behind him. i’m loving this.
HE BROUGHT OUT A HAND-HELD UMBRELLA
he’s really getting into the book
He put away the umbrella and book and stuff and now he’s measuring the grass again.
HE’S GONNA PLAY CROQUET
the sprinklers turned on…i’m two hours into this thing
more compelling than real tv tbh

Niggas always tryna be smooth when a girl tell them they name she be like “My name Lisa” the nigga be like “Oh Lisa lisssa ok i I like that name Ms. Lisa lol”
Well done everyone, you are all incredible no matter your grades. Do not let a human social testing structure define your person and most importantly, your happiness
