……….::*goes back to bed*
over the past few months, I've managed to get plenty of acne scars on my face. do you have any tips that may help to lighten them or eliminate them entirely? thank you so much
things that helped my hyperpigmented scars:
witch hazel with aloe vera & rose petal toner
vitamin c & vitamin e
almond oil to moisturize
aztec healing clay
raw aloe vera
cleansing with african black soap
sunscreen
vitamin c and vitamin e–both available in serums for skin–have antioxidants that help combat free radicals. free radicals produce damage to skin when healthy molecules lose electrons, leaving behind a hole in the molecule. the free radical then seeks some other electron (doesn’t care where it comes from) to fill the hole. this process generally means that free radicals attack healthy cells in order to fill the hole that was created, which causes damage to healthy skin. this is one of the main processes of skin damage and aging, as anything that challenges the skin (acne, sun, what you consume, etc) slowly creates free radicals. vitamin c and vitamin e have antioxidants that promote a healthy way to fill the hole caused by free radicals, so that the molecules do not have to damage healthy cells to be whole again. vitamin c promotes collagen production and inhibits tyrosinase, the enzyme that causes over-production of melanin (what causes hyperpigmentation and scarring). vitamin e is anti-inflammatory and decreases skin damage by healing infection.
aloe vera is one of nature’s best and most effective plants for helping with scars and hyperpigmentation (and honestly so many other things!). the lignins of the aloe vera plant enable the skin to be penetrated and helps remove dead or damaged skin cells while promoting the regeneration of new cells and moisturizing the skin. aloe vera has natural salicylic acid which helps lighten, hydrate, and heal damaged skin.
aztec healing clay is a natural bentonite clay that deeply cleans pores and exfoliates without being harsh to skin. exfoliating helps remove dead skin cells which is integral if you have scars! i mix 1 part clay and 1 part apple cider vinegar.
sunscreen is the most important thing to use, whether or not you have scars or hyperpigmentation. if you have deep scarring i would recommend seeing a dermatologist because preventing / minimizing hyperpigmentation and acne scars largely depends on your complexion, skin type, and internal health (hormone imbalances are one of the biggest causes of melanin over-production). i hope these tips help :-)
I wish I could just come and see you whenever I wanted
