𝐇𝐄𝐑 𝐀𝐑𝐌𝐒 𝐂𝐑𝐎𝐒𝐒𝐄𝐃, heels digging into the carpet as she glares at him. She doesn’t know whether she should be shocked, taken aback, or if this is just another one of his attempts to lighten the mood▬▬one of those ridiculous, infuriating comments he drops just to see her reaction. And that’s the damn problem with Gideon. She never knows when he’s serious, when he’s playing, when he’s just being his usual pain-in-the-ass self. Her lips part, then snap shut. All sorts of emotions flicker across her face▬▬confusion, disbelief, irritation▬▬but anger is the one that sticks. He ruined her night. She doesn’t care what she feels for him, what she refuses to admit, what lingers in the back of her mind every time he flashes that stupid, charming smile. What matters is that she had plans, plans he had no right to interfere with. That man▬▬her date▬▬was nice. Genuinely nice. And Gideon ? Gideon had spent the whole damn evening questioning her decision, picking the man apart like some overprotective older brother, like he had any say in who she spent her time with. He doesn’t even know the guy, yet he made him look bad.

Her nails dig into her arms as she narrows her eyes at him, trying to decide if he’s joking. ❝ Tu te moques de moi ? ❞ Her accent thickens with the heat of her frustration, a dead giveaway of just how pissed off she is. ❝ Mon dieu, Gideon ! ❞ She scoffs, turning away for a second just so she doesn’t throw something at him. Her night was supposed to be simple. She was supposed to enjoy a nice dinner, maybe a slow dance in that beautiful dress she picked for the night, maybe something more if the night went well. But Gideon had swooped in like a hurricane, making it impossible to focus on anything but him. And now, now he has the audacity to say that? She turns back to him, her dark eyes burning, jaw tight. ❝ I don’t even ‘ave time to deal wit’ you right now, let alone▬▬❞ she gestures wildly, throwing her hands in the air. Because what the hell is he even saying ? Why does he always do this▬▬get under her skin, make her forget everything except him ? It’s not fair. It’s not fair that he can say something so ridiculous and still, still, a part of her wants to laugh. Wants to grab him by the collar and▬▬Non. Non, he doesn’t get to ruin her night and make her heart race in the same breath. She exhales sharply, shaking her head. ❝ You are... insufferable, ❞ she mutters, pushing past him because if she stays in this room any longer, she might do something stupid. Like kiss him. Or punch him. She’s not sure which.

𝐋𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐚 𝐦𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫, 𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐮𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞 and he knew for sure that she wouldn't be too thrilled about it. Why would she be when she was looking forward to it. And he, Gideon, came in like a wrecking ball. He could say it was simply out of amusement, fun, and nothing else but the truth is jealousy encouraged his actions with her. And there he was making sure that the night went no further than a simple hello, maybe dinner and nothing else.

❝ You seem mad.❞ Worst thing for him to say knowing damn well she is mad at him for what he's done, but he doesn't let that stop him from grinning even slightly as he moves in closer to Cass. ❝ Oh come on, Cass, you and I both know that you don't really want the good guy. Sure, he was...alright...❞ nothing like Gideon at all, and maybe that's what she needs. But Gideon isn't going to let her or himself believe that, not when he knows how they are together. What he feels when he's so close to her.

❝ You'd get bored fast. I know it, I'm sure you know it, besides -- you're kind of glad I ruined tonight for you.❞ though he can't say that for sure, he's saying it anyway.

As she pushes past him he follows her. ❝ I did you a favor.❞ though who is he trying to convince at the end of the night? Himself or her? Why can't he just let her go?

Because truth is, he doesn't want to.

Wayne does not wither nor does she melt under the affliction of his frigid stare. It would not be the first time she appeared before a heart curdled with vehemence. "Good. Because I am not a priest and can not grant absolution," she starts stoically. "So there will be no swords held above your head."

The socialite's movements around him are measured, calculated, and full of poise. "I have come to offer you a job." She swallows. "There are some who would say you are a regular terror at your job,-- and I find, surprisingly, that is what I require. More than that, it is what Gotham requires." Her oaken eyes shift about the room, assuring herself that they are quite alone before she crouches before him. "I seek someone of your talents to help me. Of course, you can refuse." But if he did, Wayne could do little more to protect him.

𝐀𝐧𝐝 𝐲𝐞𝐭 𝐬𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐢𝐫𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐡𝐢𝐦 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐚 𝐡𝐚𝐰𝐤 and it makes him feel a mix of uncertain but not threatened. As though he's being sized up wondering what it is he's capable of without the control of someone else. Then she speaks, commenting on his work before and he takes a breath to steady his lungs and heart that seem to be working against each other. It's the uncertainty of it all, and when she tells him it's what Gotham requires everything calms and he laughs faintly.

❝ So, you're here to offer me a job ? ❞ he asks seeming surprised.

I was debating doing this, but I am going to be changing the URL of this blog. Don't get me wrong, I love this URL very, very much. However -- since there are others with similiar URLS ( which does happen I get that ) and people are mistaking that person for *me?*

𝒉𝒆 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝒛𝒆𝒔, watching her, his heart pounding in his throat. And when her eyes find him—when she whispers, "Daddy!"—something inside him breaks. The tears in her eyes, the way she reaches for him, pulls him from the crushing weight of helplessness he’s been drowning in since this nightmare began. He’s at her side in an instant, his arms wrapping around her, holding her as tight as he can without letting go. The sobs come, and each one feels like a punch to his chest. "I’m sorry, I’m so sorry... " she cries into his shoulder, and Tony’s heart twists. Sorry ? For what ? He doesn't care about the magic, doesn't care about the reckless boy who dragged her into this ordeal. He doesn’t care about anything right now except the fact that she’s here, alive, in his arms. His fingers thread gently through her hair, his cheek pressed against her head as he whispers, " Shh, baby. It’s okay. You’re okay. I’ve got you. " But the words feel hollow, inadequate. How could he explain to her that what she saw wasn’t some dream ? That she had been trapped in the darkest day of his life—the day he thought he’d never come back. The day he left everything behind to save the world. And she watched it. Lived it. The thought rips through him, and he swallows hard, trying to keep it together for her.

He hears Stephen in the background, offering to give them a minute, but Tony barely acknowledges it. His world is AJ, clinging to him, shaking with sobs. The guilt gnaws at him, relentless. How could he have let this happen ? He should’ve done more, been smarter. Anything to keep her from going through that. " Don’t be sorry, " he whispers, his voice breaking, " You’ve got nothing to be sorry for, okay ? " He pulls back just enough to cup her face, wiping the tears from her cheeks with his thumbs, his eyes searching hers. " You’re safe now. I’m right here. "

Holding tight to Tony, AJ just clings as tightly as she can trying to not replay everything she saw, but she can't. It just stays in the front of her mind like images from a movie that are replaying on a loop. Her father willing to give his life, nearly losing his life for everyone. And then people would dare call him things after the fact, after he went through that. Not understanding that every motive , every action was to protect Earth, protect his friends and family. If it hadn't been for him she'd not be here -- nothing would be.

But to see her father's sacrifice with her own eyes, screaming knowing he couldn't hear her would leave her feeling terrified. Trembling as she holds on to him hoping that the warmth of him will calm her.

❝ I saw you. ❞ she tells him, her voice breaking. ❝ I saw you with the nuke, and I saw you...I saw Aunt Natasha close the portal and I saw you falling...I saw all of it...❞ And then she turns her head to his chest and just continues to stop letting out the anguish of seeing her father nearly take his own life for the sake of others. As admirable as it should be, it's scary to a girl who loves her father.

She knows that she's damaged in so many ways. Yes, she's a kind person at heart, she loves deeply, and she's generous. But she also runs away at the first sign of things getting complicated. She tends to run from anything that could be real because if it's real? It can be ruined by the people who brought her into the world. So she runs and she doesn't tend to stop running until everything is a tiny spec in distance.

She doesn't want to run away from him. Not really. But there's part of her that worries about staying. What if they find a way to ruin things? What if they hurt him like they had hurt Callum? She was a grown woman now but inside she was still a scared girl in many ways. Tell me to leave.

It's not a difficult sentence at all. It's not that many words. She should be able to tell him to leave. Just go and not come back. But she can't bring herself to say it. She can say a lot of things. But not tell him to go away and never come back.

She took a moment and a deep breath considering her words. Signing had always been something they had shared since he'd discovered that she could. So she would use it in this moment since she couldn't bring herself to speak. "You deserve better. I'm broken." And she let her hands fall to her sides right after.

He could stand here and he could fight for her ; and there is a part of him that is determined to do just that. And yet he wants to respect her and her wish. If that wish is for him to go -- he'll go.

But she doesn't say the words ; she simply signs them. He could joke and say that's not the same but there is a part of him that wants to grab her and shake some sense into her. Yet he doesn't, he just sighs softly and brings up his hands.

❝ Aria, please. ❞ he signs back to her instead of opening his mouth. ❝ We're all a little broken. Look at me, I'm not exactly a freshly carved statue, I've been glued back together, and not even with the good stuff. Silly glue, at best...❞

He aims to make her smile and he hopes he can get something of that sort in the moment. ❝ I don't care if you see yourself as broken, because you know what I see ? ❞ he says, sitting next to her.

  They look into each other's eyes , his hand cups her cheek while his calloused thumb brushes slowly against her skin. They could fight this, they could find a way to make it so that they were nothing more than what they once were a long time ago. Colleagues, friends, but nothing more.

Steve can't go back to that -- he doesn't want to go back to that. Ever since he met her his life has been turned upside down but that was never a bad thing in Steve's eyes. She let him see the world outside of it's own bubble that sat in shades of black and white. She brought a color to it that was unlike any other that he's ever seen.

He's tired of fighting this. Every day is another battle and yet when it comes to her there is only one thing he wants, one thing he needs. With her she makes him stronger than the serum ever could. With her by his side his faith doesn't waver and he doesn't falter. He knows that with her he'll always have someone who has his back. Not simply out there on the field ; but in life as a whole. He's lost enough in his past life, and in this one.

But the one thing he refuses to lose is this. Her.
