Just a quick one - I’m visiting family at the moment, and have found that scanning things on a pc from the 90s is not ideal.

It’s been a good week for catching up with the world - hopefully I’ll have some sequential stuff to put up next week - Here’s a little First Father doodle.

So I’ve been a bit naughty and missed an update, because life is super hectic at the moment, but hopefully your regular programming of “things-that-need-a-tiny-bit-more-done-to-them” should resume in short order - I’ve wanted to put some colours on this one for a little while.

I don’t normally do tributes, but here we are - Some love for the great and resting Terry Pratchett. Hopefully someone else will do a better job of a tribute before The Great A’tuin reaches its destination.

So this post kind of marks a change for this little tumblr -

Here’s the thing - blogging is actually pretty hard -really hard even; I’ve never been good at it, and I have the greatest respect for those who manage to make it work. For a long time I've been stuck thinking that only polished work is worth putting up, but by the time I’ve finished something, those pieces seem out of date and I feel like I’ve moved on to making better things already, so they get put aside never to be seen again. This really isn’t the way to treat work that I’m proud of, and it ends up just being a set of irregular posts that are like short statements rather than the string of dialog a blog should really be, so from now on, expect to see half-finished things, pieces that don’t work out, and maybe even some finished work every saturday when I post new things.

So it’s been nearly forever since I’ve posted here, but it’s been a crazy crazy year - I got married, moved house a gajillion times, did some commissioned work, finished some projects, and have generally been one heck of a busy chap. Anyway, I want to use this tumblr as a way to keep motivated to make stuff for me, so I’ll be trying to put something up every week without fail. These are some snips from a little side project I’m colouring at the moment, but hopefully I’ll be able to put up a chunk of bigger story stuff soon. Cheers.

The show is over, the course is over - (Until we take our projects to the book fair that is...) and it's nice to sit down and start making things that aren't constrained to the specifics of the 12-spread picturebook format- the top image is from my business cards that some lovely person at Foyles used to promote our show, and the bottom is a doodle from a project that I've wanted to get back to for a while about moving to a town on a giant's back.

Here are some bits and pieces from another dummy book I put together (at great speed) for my masters stage project - It's a preview of set of collection-book style comics where our chaps discover crazy doohickeys and dingdads and adventures ensue. In this case, it's a key that can connect any two doors in town by dialling the numbers on its side. Cheers.

It's been quite a while since I last posted, so I guess apologies for the megaposts. Here are some pages and endpapers from a children's book dummy I worked on this semester -the words are a bit last minute and not by any means final. My Masters degree is finally finished- the whole time flew by just so darn quickly that it make me feel a bit feel like I'm only just starting to finally get my head round the stuff I need to improve on! Still, I think I learnt a lot about putting together picturebooks in the 18 month blitz. More soon!
