Reaching An End
He knew when he dropped Akari off at the hospital. It was just the look on his grandmother's face and it was why he claimed that he had to run and get something. He didn't even stop to see his grandfather again. The man sad his piece to him the night before, and there was really nothing else to say.
Taiki didn't go very far. He drove a couple blocks away parked and just waited because he knew what was coming. He had no idea how long he was sitting there before his cellphone rang. A tearful Akari was on the other end, choking out that his grandfather passed away.
He didn't cry. A part of Taiki was sad in a way, but he mostly just accepted it. It was part of the reason why he rarely let anyone get close to him.
“You know what's going to happen next, don't you?” His grandmother asked Taiki at the funeral.
He eyed the other businessman than were all there and slowly nodded his head. “Yeah, I do.”
His grandfather tried to put in a position where this very scenario wouldn't unravel, but there was just wasn't enough time. The new CEO of the company as well as the higher ups had absolutely no claim over the technology Taiki was developing, his grandfather worded the contract that they created very carefully. It belonged to him and him alone, so even as they shut down that division, they didn't get a thing from him.
Everything just happened so quickly. Though it was over several weeks, it still felt like a blink of an eye to the young adult. He didn't have to worry about money, since he got quite a chunk of his grandfather's fortune, though the majority when to his grandmother for the time being.
For the first time in a long time, Taiki didn't have to worry about anything. Maybe that was the reason why he wasn't quite sure what he wanted to do with himself. He didn't want to keep working on the technology, he didn't want to find another job, he didn't want to go back to school.
Maybe working and pushing himself to the point of being sick since he was only eight had finally caught up to him. Everything was just work, push himself, work harder. He never stopped, he rarely ever did things because he wanted to outside of working to make himself look better. Fun was something that he was unfortunately unfamiliar with for the most part.
Now it was all gone, and instead of mourning it, he felt like he could breathe again. What that meant for him, Taiki didn't know, but he'd take whatever it was when it came his way.
