"Why would you do that?" Shoutmon growled at her, tugging at the hammer but unable to lift it. "I thought she was the nice one, Taiki."

"You deserved that," Taiki said with a shrug, much more interested in some of the different things on the iron suit he was wearing. He looked from one girl to the next, not wanting to say something that would set Akari off again. "Thanks Hikari. Good to know we have your magical hammer around if we need it." He didn’t want Hikari to use it on Akari, but if they had to…

"You feeling better now?" That question was cautiously aimed at Akari.

“Shut up, I’m eating,” Akari said.

Hikari just smiled. “If you promise not to provoke her, Shoutmon, I’ll take Mjolnier off your tail. I’m only doing this to calm Akari-chan down.” She nodded at Taiki. “I don’t like it, but I’ll keep the hammer on Shoutmon’s tail if it keeps Akari-chan calm. No need for her to destroy everything.”

"Hey Hikari." Taiki waved, not even bothering to ask how she climbed through the window of all places.

"Oh, hey, cookies that actually smell like more than burning lumps of junk," Shoutmon noted, blue eyes flickering to Akari.

"Would you stop provoking her!" He looked back at Hikari. "This is what I deal with every day."

Not surprisingly at all, Akari was instantly distracted by the food, taking the container from Hikari and happily munching on one.

Hikari strode over to Shoutmon, kneeling and smiling. “You must be Shoutmon, huh? I’m Hikari. I’ve heard a bit about you. And…sorry.” She pushed him over, putting Mjolnir on his tail.

"WHAT! YOU ASSHOLE!" Akari crushed the controller in her hands, skin starting to go green, before she lunged at Shoutmon, trying to strangle him.

"We’re supposed to be keep her calm," Taiki growled at his partner, though he was quickly ignored.

"I don’t think all the mass amounts of makeup you put on is going to be able to hide that," Shoutmon pointed to Akari’s green skin as he kept dancing out of her way.

“Get over here, you little red son of a—”

“Now, now, that’s not nice, Akari-chan,” Hikari chided, climbing in through the window. “I brought cookies~!”

"She’s not winning anyway," Shoutmon said, completely unconcerned, using a blue-shell on her character. "Not anymore."

"WHAT! YOU ASSHOLE!" Akari crushed the controller in her hands, skin starting to go green, before she lunged at Shoutmon, trying to strangle him.

"You know, you should probably avoid stressful situations right about now. Just a suggestion."

Pain and Fear [Hogwarts AU] || Taiki & Akari

Taiki grabbed her forearms, partially so she wouldn’t move away from him and partially so she wouldn’t punch him again. He was still a mess, blood on his face and robes where he hadn’t bothered to rub it off.

She did have a point, and he knew that. Taiki hated seeing her upset, hated being helpless when he couldn’t help her. He’d be terrified for her. At the same time though, the idea of Akari in the tournament amused him. “Well I wouldn’t have broken your nose.” He shot her a pointed look. “Don’t be daft, you’d destroy the challenges if you were picked.” He sounded entirely too confident about that.

He moved his hands from her arms to her clenched fists, a little wary over how heavily she was breathing and shaking. “Look, my name came out. We can’t change it. Even if we had a time turner, that’s not how it works. Instead of getting mad, help me. That’s what I’d do for you.” He looked at her almost tiredly. “I don’t think I have it in me to fight whatever shows up in these challenges, and you, at the same time.”

“I didn’t mean to break your nose,” she said halfheartedly. It had come to mind, but she’d never decided on whether she actually wanted to or not. She shifted and sighed, burying her head in his chest.

“Taiki, it’s scary. I just—really. You might die out there and I don’t know how I’m going to handle that. I wish you could have a partner.” She sighed deeply. “I’ll still be watching, you know. Front row and all.”

“Just…get out of this alive. I’ll help all I can.”

Taiki tried not to wince as she punched his shoulder, but she was much stronger than she looked. He felt a bit of his anger simmering away, though not enough to entirely back down. He ignored the wand in her hand entirely. She knew some nasty hexes, but he was quicker and his guard was up.

He was going to yell back to her, to tell her to stop being so immature, but her tears stopped him. She didn’t cry often, but he absolutely hated when she did.

He didn’t want people to hear them arguing, and Taiki was pretty sure she wouldn’t want people to see her crying. He grabbed her arm, a little more roughly than he actually meant to, and practically dragged her into the nearest, empty classroom. He slammed the door behind them and quickly used locking and silencing charms on the door because he didn’t need anyone to hear them arguing.

"You think that I think this is a game?" he snapped at her. Technically, it was a game, but he knew what she meant. "Despite what you think, I’m not stupid. What do you want me to say? That part of me was scared into putting my name in by my own father? Or that yeah, I do want to win the money because then I’d actually have something to fall back on after graduation so I won’t have to go back to him at all and we can just go do what we want?" He took a deep breath and stared at her. "What do you want me to say?"

“I know you’re not stupid—but you can act pretty stupid sometimes!” she snapped back, knuckles white from keeping her fists clenched. “I know your father talked you into it, but you could’ve said you put your name in and it just didn’t get drawn! But—but now—”

“Agh, you idiot!” She was breathing heavy. “You’re killing me! Do you have any idea how I feel? Yeah, you have to go against all these challenges, but if you get hurt or you die, I have to sit there and watch! I won’t be able to do anything because that’s the rules!”

“How would you feel if it was me? What if it was my name called? How would you react if you were forced to sit back and watch me while my life was in danger, all the while knowing you could lose me at any second?!”

Taiki reached for his own wand, not to attack her because he could never bring himself to do that, but to fix the mess that she made of his face. “Episkey.” He winced in pain as his nose fixed itself and then turned his eyes to her again.

"Nice to see how much faith you actually have in me, since you’re so sure I’m going to die or get hurt." He took a step towards her, glaring down at her. "I regret not listening to you, listening to my father instead, but I can’t go back on that or I lose my magic. You know that’s what happens, right? Back out of the contract and boom, it’s gone." He motioned with his hands, the wand in his hand accidentally shooting a couple of harmless sparks before he shoved it into his pocket. "So I’m going to focus on winning, and you flipping out isn’t helping at all." He tried to stay calm, trying to lower his voice any time it seemed he was close to yelling.

“You’re such a fucking idiot!” she screamed, pointing her wand at him threateningly. “You’re going to get yourself killed and then what do I do? What am I supposed to do if you get yourself killed?”

She opted to punch him in the shoulder this time, instead of blasting a spell, but by now she was in tears. “Why is everything a game to you? You want to risk your life for what, a title? Some money? Taiki, this isn’t chess!”

She knew what he was doing and she pouted. It was that cute, very pitiful Akari pout. It worked well, but she wasn’t sure it would work this time.

She may not have been serious in the first place, but if it got Taiki to pay attention to her, she’d be serious now. She grinned and took the book, laying it down and climbing on his lap.

“Tai-ki,” she cooed, kissing him fleetingly. “Don’t ignore me. It makes me sad when you do that.” She wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed it. “Please? It makes me feel so lonely when you pretend I’m not here.”

Taiki could ignore her pouting when he really tried, when he felt like he had a point to prove. Now just happened to be one of those times. He was stubborn.

The problem was, she was too. He could ignore her pouting at him, but it was much, much harder to ignore his half-dressed girlfriend when she climbed onto his lap. He tried to keep ignoring her, but it really didn’t work out that well. Taiki closed his eyes and sighed, on hand resting on her hip the other reaching up to play with her scarlet ponytails.

He pulled away from her a bit so he could look at her. It was just a brief glance that silently sent the message ‘you win’ before he tugged her close and pressed his lips to hers. He kind of hated that she always won, but he wasn’t about to complain.

Taiki didn’t break eye contact with her as his expression slowly shifted into an unimpressed glare. He knew what she was doing. She did this way too much just to get a reaction out of him that he never knew when she was serious. Hence why he always just assumed she was being a jerk.

He knew how to combat that though. His glare vanished and he smiled at her, taking a few steps towards her before changing direction at the last minute and grabbing one of his books. He plopped down beside her, flipping open to the pages that he needed to study, though he glanced at her out of the corner of his eye just to see her reaction to him ignoring her.

Reality was, he had the food because he didn’t eat this morning and took some from the kitchen between classes, the house elves were always happy to give food, and gave him more than he could possibly eat. That and he always stocked up on different things from Hogsmead. He never knew when he’d have to use some kind of snack as a peace offering with her.

"Gah." Taiki’s face turned bright red as he quickly got up. He absolutely hated when she said things like that because he never knew what to say without making him sound like a jerk one way or another. It didn’t help that he never knew when she was joking or not, and she knew that. No, she didn’t just know that, he was pretty sure she thrived off of how awkward it made him.

He got up and got her the cookies that he still had. It wasn’t nutritious or anything, but at least it would tide her over until supper. “Just take the cookies.”
