Il Duomo di San Giorgio a Ragusa Ibla è una delle opere più suggestive del Barocco siciliano. Risalendo il corso XXV Aprile, il visitatore si ritrova ai piedi della piazza dove svetta altissimo il Duomo di San Giorgio. La chiesa non ha, però, una collocazione regolare rispetto alla sottostante piazza: il suo asse centrale è, infatti, leggermente ruotato rispetto alla linea che risulta dal prolungamento della piazza, non risultando fra l’altro perfettamente allineata con gli assi delle strade. In questo modo l’osservatore che si introduce in piazza duomo può scorgere la chiesa nelle sue tre dimensioni e di ammirare finanche la sua cupola. La piazza è, poi, abbellita da palme e delimitata da palazzi di stampo neoclassico e barocco. _______________________________ The Cathedral of San Giorgio in Ragusa Ibla is one of the most evocative works of Sicilian Baroque. Going up Corso XXV Aprile, the visitor finds himself at the foot of the square where the Cathedral of San Giorgio stands out. However, the church does not have a regular location with respect to the underlying square: its central axis is, in fact, slightly rotated with respect to the line resulting from the extension of the square, not being perfectly aligned with the axes of the streets. In this way, the observer who enters the cathedral square can see the church in its three dimensions and even admire its dome. "A Turri" 🏰 Based on some historical notes in 1200, Frederick II donated the Minzar castle (in Arabic “El Minzar” means panorama) and the Muxaro farmhouse with all its territories to the bishop Ursone. On the death of the bishop, the king ordered the canons of Agrigento to appoint Raimondo D'Aquaviva as successor of the assets. Around 1300 the bishop Bertoldo donated the farmhouse to Francesco da Todi, who preferred to sell the land to Giovanni di Chiaramonte, in exchange for the castle of Morgidiar. On the death of the last heir of the Chiaramonte family, all their assets were confiscated and donated by King Martin to Filippo de Merino. Around 1750, most of the fiefs of Muxarello and Cantarella became the property of the Morreale family.
