Your name is, according to you, Redglare. You’re seated in your new office chair at your refurbished desk among your many unpacked boxes with a piping hot cup of tea. There’s an incredible amount of paper work for you to review, especially regarding the case of a missing Gamzee Makara, but you’re sure the officer you assigned the task of retracing his whereabouts has delivered a stellar report.

Or, you would be sure. If you could decipher it.

It was evident that this report was meticulously written with not a single detail left out. The logs were easily legible, and the reason for their inclusion was appreciated. But the flavour text of the document was... Almost unreadable.

Still, it made you laugh. The dedication to his equine puns was admirable, and you would gladly spend the extra time reading through it to appreciate it. You send him a quick message thanking him for his contribution and that the report would be most useful for the investigation.

Jaywalk your way in to your heart

Your name is Psiioniic, and so you would have it said if they asked your name. You are currently in the police jail as per usual. You are sure they should put your name on the outside because you always ask for holding cell number 2. Other officers know you at least by face, specially since you used to come over more frequently, and sometimes you say hello to Grandpa Grig. But since you started firefighter training you have stopped, needless to say this is an exception mostly because it was an urgent talk you and Kasius had to have and you don’t trust anywhere else to have it. You never know when or who is listening in. You never fucking know. 

Regardless or not if this is the place that gives you the most confidence when it comes to confidential matters you are respectful to not be loud and follow procedure every time. Spending over the night isn’t really the worst thing in the world anyway. Not when the whispers have been yelling about coming here like yells of the dammed. Why is the police place so important, you don’t know, you just hope after today the will shut up.

Your name is, for the most part, Redglare. You’ve been doing your duties as Chief of Police as well as you can behind the scenes, the only real on foot contribution you had made was participate in a raid, send out officers to assist in medical and repair needs, and find a certain dear friend of yours long thought dead.

Apparently that was a theme. Finding out that the so called “historically iconic ancestors of Alternia History” that were once thought dead actually lived was becoming a recurring surprise for everyone, including yourself. Today was another instance where that surprise would pierce your very being.

The sound of your heels clacking in rhythm with your cane was a familiar sound to anyone that knew you. Your pace was hurried and you clutched the documents in your hand with disbelief, fearing that loosing your grip even a little would cause them to disappear. You had to see him for yourself, and you steeled yourself for his and your own reaction as you approached the cell numbered 2.

From the time I spent on Earth, I gotta say I became captivated by anything bright red and anything fragrant. Gardenias and lilacs have a captivating smell to them, and always make me feel at ease. I’m quite fond of poppies and dahlias. There’s also the very stunning Jade Vine, which is the only teal colour flower I’ve come across. I’d love to own one.

As for roses, I never looked into the meaning of what colour meant what, but they are beautiful. The ones that have large, bursting bloom are my favourite. I don’t know what I’d do if I ever received any as a romantic gesture, though.

Yes, I do. I’m a fan of chocolate truffles, and I’m especially fond of chocolate with a fruity filling. Raspberry is my favourite, although chocolate with a hint of orange is quite pleasant.

You managed to miss every single holiday since you arrived in Midnight City. Halloween was not necessarily your fault, but you still feel as though you missed some prime bonding moments with the townsfolk and your own police force.

Oh, just admit it to yourself. You’re lonely. In more ways than one.

Still, you had to maintain some professionalism, even if you were allowed some personal downtime away from the job. While it would be unbecoming of you to join the speed dating happening on neutral territory, you still wish you could feel that Valentine’s Day spirit. After a trip to the craft store, you manage to decorate the door to your office with pinks and reds and whites and hearts and ribbons and... while it made you a little ill, it did bring a smile to your face.

You leave a white square in the middle of the decorations and write out: “Now Accepting Valentines” and affix a long, pink envelope. You set up a tall and table next to your door and place a basket of candy on top with another sight that reads “Please accept a Valentine from me.”

Happy with your handy work, you retire to your office to continue whatever paperwork has managed to find its way onto your desk.

The Search

Wild winds whipped in a violent fashion as snow twirled and stung the faces of anyone who chose to expose themselves to the elements. It was a brief gust, but the gust chilled Redglare to her very bones. Perhaps it was the guilt of once again leaving her new post in the very capable hands of Pembrooke that shook her. Regardless, she trudged forward and reflected on the events of her trip.

She normally didn’t deal with immigrations with her position, but with the lack of staffing after numerous world-ending events left many stations unmanned. It wasn’t until she saw someone arrive from her Earth wearing Alternian technology that she realized how lonely she was. She adored her new team to bits, sure. She felt right at home and welcome in this strange family. However, the magic that surrounded Midnight City was completely overwhelming. With her Majesty’s permission, she began the search. She knew that this force needed a particular troll with a very particular skill set, and so she absconded even in the midst of a murder investigation to find him.

Tracking him down was near impossible, he had hidden himself well since his disappearance. How lucky Redglare felt that a chance encounter with someone using technology from her home planet would spark her memory and toss her down the rabbit hole. Had she not allowed her curiosity to pilot her, she would have continued to mourn him until the end of her days. Several trips to Alternia and Earth finally gave her a few leads to follow, and each one either provided another step forward or a mystery.

She wondered how to work a bonus into everyone’s paycheck on her return.

Eventually, the end of the trail lead her to a place she’d never imagine he would settle down in. Alaska. An odd choice, but it was this choice that hid him so well. In the time it took for her to arrive and follow the rest of her leads to his hideout, she tried to prepare what she would say to him.

We were getting ready for a Halloween party so there’s plenty of wrapped snacks.” >You start to lead them to one of the lounges that John had decorated up with all the tacky Halloween regalia.

“Nah, we’re not gonna hurt you guys. You haven’t done anything wrong. Looks like one of your bosses is on his way to bring you two home. Bit of candy doesn’t hurt anybody, take it as an apology from us.”

> The aggressive stance Fin(ley) is taking nearly makes you lose your composure, and you hold your laughter in. Thank frog he didn’t poof in here with any weapons in his pockets, though.

Like I’m Pickles, this is Redglare.  Force of habit really.” >You gesture to yourself and the captain as you say this, pulling out your phone to check a message while snapping a photo of the duo discreetly, before tucking it away. “I will keep in mind you go by Finley only.  We don’t want to fight. I’m pretty sure Mister Scratch would have both of our heads if anything was to happen to either of you.  So if he doesn’t want you to have candy then we won’t offer that either.” >You give a sigh, looking to the both of them. “I swear we have no interest in arresting you.  Either of you. We just want to get you home safely.  All we are doing is waiting for Mister Scratch to send someone to pick you up and take you home.  If you want to do that standing and waiting for a fight that no one wants, we can.   But I’d personally rather not.”

Huh. “Look. We really aren’t here to arrest you.  I know I know, no reason to trust me.
