UP Sandigan

UP Sandigan is a socio-political organization based on the College of Pharmacy. UP Sandigan was first formed as a political party supporting candidates for the University Student Council (USC) and University of the Philippines Pharmaceutical Association (UPPhA) elections. The “shift” from what has been a springboard for political aspirants to a socio-political organization took form in January 1989. Since its creation in 1989, UP Sandigan has worked towards the achievement of our objectives. Our efforts as an organization were rewarded when we were accredited by the National Youth Commission on February 2007, and subsequently awarded as one of the Ten Accomplished Youth Organizations in the Philippines (TAYO 5) in September 2007.

ToxiciTEE: Positivity in Toxicity

Sabi nila, may dalawang paraan daw para makalabas ng UP. It is either you finish and graduate, or you drop out from UP. May mangilan-ngilan na pumipili sa ikalawa, ngunit mas marami ang pinipili ang una. Wala tayong pakialam kung gaano katagal. Kasi, naniniwala tayong ang buhay ay hindi minamadali; kasi, naniniwala tayo na kung mahal mo ang isang bagay, hindi mo siya iiwan; kasi, naniniwala tayong quality education takes time. May kanya-kanya tayong rason kung bakit nandito pa din tayo. Interesado ako sa kwento mo.

Kaya naman, inaanyayahan kitang sumali sa isang t-shirt design contest kung saan maaari mong maibahagi ang sarili mong dahilan sa pamamagitan ng arts. Toxic Arts is the name of the game, with its theme, ToxiciTEE: Positivity in Toxicity. Nagkwento ka na, maaari ka pang manalo ng salapi na malay mo, kailanganin mo balang araw.

Kaya't ano pang hinihintay mo? SALI NA!

Hanapin ang Toxic Arts team sa UP Sandigan tambayan sa UP college of Pharmacy at ipacertify ang nafill-out na registration form.

Magbayad ng reg fee na 100 pesos lang.

VOILA! tapos na. pwede mo na itong ipasa pagkatapos magdesign bago magdeadline (January 11, 2013)

magdeposit ng reg fee na 100 pesos sa UP Sandigan acct (see poster for details)

ipa-scan ang deposit slip/receipt at isend sa [email protected]

hintayin ang reply ng sinendan (gabi-gabing nagchecheck ng email si Sandi so send lang!)

ipadadala ang t-shirt sa iyo through LBC or JRS Express kung gusto mo provided na ikaw ang magshoshoulder ng shipping fee nito (for any shipping options, access the website of the respective couriers). kung ikaw ay taga-Manila o Quezon City, pwede mong piliing makipagmeet-up na lang at ibigay sayo ang shirts.

Kickass Kid of the Day: A Maryland-based scientist has developed an incredibly accurate mechanism for detecting pancreatic cancer, which is faster than current methods, as well as 100 times more sensitive and 28 times cheaper. Oh, and the scientist is 15 years old.

For his discovery, high school freshman Jack Andraka just won the Gordon E. Moore Award at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair, which comes with a $75,000 prize.

Andraka’s method uses single-walled carbon nanotubes — which he calls “the superheroes of material science” — to detect a pancreatic cancer marker in urine and blood samples. In a blind test, it had a 100% success rate.

“I did not expect for it to be this good,” he said, “I was blown away by how sensitive it was.”
