not to be a hedonist but. pleasure IS the whole point, my loves. we are made for pleasure. humans have not survived out of spite or sheer grit or simply to make more humans. we live for pleasure. the pleasure of licking the last delicious crumbs off your fingers and feeling sunlight on your skin and massaging a loved one's shoulders. we're made to fill our bellies with delicious food, to nap in soft grass, to touch each other in joy and comfort.
there is no shame or guilt in our bodies doing what they were made to do. and we are made for pleasure.
Always remember to believe in your magick within ✨
for moments of doubt;
if you ever find yourself worrying that maybe your deities are “all in your head,” please consider this:
who have you been talking to? who has been providing you advice and guidance and love? who has been taking care of you this whole time?
“worst” case scenario? you have. is it really so bad to consider that maybe, you found strength in yourself? you found a way to hold your own hand, support yourself from within, and care for yourself so deeply and whole-ly that it felt devine? and maybe that itself is divine.
don’t feel silly for talking to the divine, whether it is truly outside yourself or within yourself… i suspect it is a bit of both. 🤍
“I feel awe of the gods, I love, I revere, I venerate them, and in short have precisely the same feelings towards them as one would have towards kind masters or teachers or fathers or guardians or any beings of that sort.”
— Julian the Philosopher, in “To the Cynic Heracleios"
how do you know the gods are real? im a worshipper but i always struggle with doubt its just my imagination/projection.
The basis of faith is that you don't really know. I could brush off any experience as "coincidence", every divination result as "cold reading" (when done by someone else) or even plain old wishful thinking (when done by me).
Everything can be rationalized if you try hard enough, so it comes down to choice. The choice to believe, the choice to start practicing, and the choice to make this religion a more or less important part of your life.
Doubt is healthy, and it serves its little sister, discernation. But if I had proof tomorrow that the gods were not real, would I stop practicing my religion? Probably not.
This!
The way someone perceives the Divine says more about themselves than it does of the Divine.
Things I have learned as a Hellenic Pagan
Religion should be a source of comfort and security. If it isn't, then there's something wrong with it.
Prayers aren't just for times of needs. The gods are always around and willing to listen.
If you ask a god for help, be prepared for surprises. The gods don't operate on the same level as mortals. They have their own ideas for what's appropriate and suitable for dealing with things. It makes sense to them, even though we might not understand.
It's cool to incorporate modern interpretations and retellings, but in my opinion, those are more for fun than anything else. There's nothing wrong with being a fan of the Percy Jackson universe, but don't base your perceptions of the gods that have been around for millennia off of a 21st century young adult fantasy series. If you're actually interested in being a Hellenic Pagan, at least read some Hesiod and Homer.
A Pagan religion can work hand in hand with a witchcraft practice, or it can be completely separate from one. You certainly don't have to have both. For me, being a Hellenic Pagan fits in with being a witch beautifully. But this doesn't apply to everybody.
You don't have to know everything. You won't know everything. You never will. There are people who devote lifetimes to studying this stuff. You don't have to wait till you know "enough" to start being a Hellenic Pagan and worshipping the gods. Pick your favorite god(s), and start with them. Pick a myth or two and start reading them.
You don't have to follow all the ancient calendars and celebrate all the ancient holidays.
You don't have to be devoted to one god, or choose a patron deity. Being a devotee can take a bit more time and commitment, and if you're not up for it, that's ok!
Don't pigeonhole the gods. There are many different sides to them. Artemis is a virgin goddess, a wild goddess, and a midwife goddess. Apollo is a music god, a shepherd god, and a medicine god.
The modern day Hellenic priests and priestesses and their ancient Greek counterparts aren't exactly alike.
You can ask gods to adopt you, even the ones who have never sired children of their own. It is perfectly acceptable to view the gods as divine parental figures.
Your practice is your own. Your relationship with the gods is personal. Don't let anybody tell you how to be a Hellenic Pagan, and don't let anybody tell you how to worship a god.

Sometimes when I pray I feel moved to tears, feel an energy inside me and know the gods are listening.
But most times when I pray, I feel nothing at all. I feel alone in my room, aware I am talking to myself. I will keep praying even when I feel alone.
Most people won't have soul shaking experiences. Most people will feel nothing at all. And that's okay. You are normal. You aren't doing anything wrong. Keep praying, and when you do Feel Something someday, it will be all the better for your persistence and patience.
My portable Hades altar. Offering of dimes from yesterday - I’ve been a bit out of touch with him recently and thought he deserved some attention. Still growing in my practice with him but being his devotee has been so rewarding.

This is such a nice and wholesome change from the usual “Dont doubt or it won’t work” or “You shouldn’t doubt your magick/deities existence” and whatever that you tend to see on the internet sometime. It’s alright to have doubt, there’s no avoiding it. It’s in our nature to question things. If it wasn’t, then we’d be no where even near the right step to get to where we are now.
And any deity worth worshipping would want you to ask questions. Any deity worth worshipping would want you to think for yourself. Any religion worth following makes room for skepticism. Blindly following any faith leads to fanaticism.
“I pray in words. I pray in poems. I want to learn to pray through breathing, through dreams and sleeplessness, through love and renunciation.”
— Anna Kamienska, from In That Great River: A Notebook (tr. Clare Cavanagh)
