Shepard watched Grunt a little cautiously. He seemed agitated and that worried her. “Sure, Grunt,” she said. It wasn’t like they had anything more pressing going on as of the moment… They were basically hanging in space waiting for something to go down. 

She moved across to the comms. unit. “Joker, set a course for Tuchanka,” she said, then turned it off. “Is everything all right, Grunt? What is it you need?”

"I don't know what I'm feeling Shepard, all I know is that I need to get to Tuchanka so I can know who I really am. So I can understand what I really am, and if there was a different life that was supposed to be mine before the Doctor starting doing his experiments on me." Grunt replied.

He looked Shepard dead in the eye. "I need to know." His eyes said he was hurting, and this was the only answer he could think of to try and ease his pain.

In all the time Shepard had known Grunt, he’d only called for her once, so being called for again at this time was… surprising, but not unwelcome. In fact, it was the kind of scenery change she needed - even if it was just down to the cargo bay.

It still took her a little while to finish with her duties, but then she found herself heading down to the cargo bay to see the youngest Krogan on the Normandy.

“Hey Grunt,” she said, stepping inside the cargo bay. “You wanted to see me?”

"I did, Shepard." He replied, looking at her but not stopping his nearly feverish pacing.

"I need help. The Pod has either stopped working properly or there never was a certain amount of information on it. I need to know this information. I can only think of one place it could be. Tuchanka."

He stopped pacing and looked at her. "I need to know everything about where I came from, and why the Doctor decided to do what he did to me. The information isn't here, but I think it can be at his labs."

He looked at her sternly. "I want you to take me there and help me find it. Please."

Grunt paced angrily back and forth, his mind reeling with thoughts of everything from killing something with his bare hands to running around the ship until there were marks in the deck from his feet.

He had messaged Shepard, asking her to meet him down in the Cargo Bay. He needed Shepard right now, she was the only one who might understand what he really needed to do.

Something in his pod had failed, or maybe it wasn't ever there to begin with. But he wanted to know something about himself, and the pod didn't have the answers. There was only one place that could possibly have the answers.

And he needed Shepard to help him get there.

Shepard smiled a little as Liara took her place by Shepard’s side, where she belonged. Tali hadn’t arrived yet, so she took a moment to just look at Liara, then she turned to the others who had arrived.

She’d left her fear in her quarters, so she felt nothing but pride at her team as she looked them over. She took a breath, checked her weapons, then turned to them all.

“Do we all know what we’re doing?”

Samara stared out the porthole window into the vast darkness around them, eyebrow furrowed. She had faith in Mordin. He would get the job done and do it right, she knew that. But still, an uneasiness crept into her.

She was doubting herself.

Turning to Shepard, expression blank, she nodded solemnly.

Tali had spent the last twenty four hours going through a complete check of her suit systems. Everything was in better than working condition. Her guns and her omnitool were all up-to-date and she had double and triple checked them after installing all of the latest modifications. So as she walked into the cargo bay to join the others, she had nothing to do with her hands.

With nothing to occupy her fingers, she was wringing them nervously as she so often did. A quick glance around the room told her who was there, and she fell in next to Shepard, opposite Liara, easily. Today was not a day to worry about the issues surrounding their affair. She did look twice to Garrus, noticing how he kept his eyes down and focused. She couldn’t blame him.

Shepard’s question got her attention.

“Yes.”

The Krogan had been disheartened since Shepard’s meeting. He had wanted to protect his friend, and although he would never admit it, was afraid of losing her again. He would remain on the Normandy, hovering above with the brittle-bones-human.

“Shepard,” he said through the intercoms, “If I lose radio contact with you for more than 5 minutes, don’t expect me to sit around in this hunk of scrap. I stay because you asked, not because I want to.” and then, to everyone, trying to hide his choked up words, “Stay safe, my friends, or Shepard will be the least of the Reapers’ worries. Rip them to shreds for me.”

With that he shut off the intercoms, and left for his quarters.

"You made sure I knew what my orders were, Shepard." Grunt rumbled, walking into the Cargo area as Shepard had asked the question. It looked as though he had made some slight modifications to his armor, making it slightly thicker so he could take the brunt of more attacks.

"Where are the other two I'm supposed to be going with? Not like I need them. I'll go look for interesting things by myself if I have to."

Gabby gaped at Grunt for a moment before nodding her head in agreement. The walk to her quarters would definitely be more awkward if she allowed Grunt to  destroy her shirt. She shrugged, “If you say so.” and grinned as she wrapped her fingers around the bottom hem of her shirt. 

She pulled her shirt off slowly, teasing the Krogan for all she was worth. Once over her head, she tossed the shirt aside and took a few steps back from Grunt. She was now only left in a plain black bra and her pants. She placed her hands on her hips and smiled sweetly at Grunt. 

“See anything you like?” Oh, Maker, Grunt is starting to bring out her more confidant side.

Grunt smiled wide, and looked her in the eye.

"Absolutely." He rumbled. Taking a step back as if to drink her all in, he nodded. Yes, yes he liked this a lot. He removed his pajama top and smiled at her.
