Upcycled No Sew T-shirt Headband & Braided Ombre Necklace. Headband tutorial here. To more suit the pixie cut I got a week ago, I only used three strands for a thinner braid. So easy!
The necklace is a combination of two DIYs. As I did the first one in winter, I do not have a link for credit. The second is here for just a plain braided t-shirt necklace.
Get three different shirts, preferably different shades of the same color and differnt sizes. Make sure material is cotton so that it will bleach and stretch.
Cut each into 1 inch parallel strips until you reach the sleeve seams.
Stretch each loop.
Dip dye by lowering the strands as a handful into a tub of bleach. Remove and let sit until you reach desired shade. Dilute the bleach by at most 50% if worried about it eating through the fabric. Rinse, wash and dry.
Group each bundle of strands by size. Divide them into 3’s. Hold the strands together and cut so that each end will be darker and the middle will be lighter.
Tie ends to a stable source (clipboard, etc.- I used my desk drawer handle). Braid. Tie knots on each end, leaving at least two inches of fabric unbraided on the end. Continue for each bundle.
Again, group each braid into small, middle, big. Here, you can either sew the ends together or glue the ends together under a rectangle of fabric that will encompass all the fabric. Wrap as tightly as possible and let dry.
This was more to blow off steam but I am REALLY excited about the DIY I’ll be posting tomorrow. One of my favorite yet.
