Linnea is a fox Aos Sí who wanders the human world primarily during winter, a season when human presence thins and the boundary between realms grows soft and porous. Cold months are quieter, easier to move through unseen, and marked by the kind of hardship fae have long been drawn to.
In its early centuries, the fae child favored the form of a fox: red-furred, keen-eyed, and light-footed across snowfields. This shape was not its true form, but a deliberate disguise meant to pass as something natural and harmless.
It was during one such winter that the fae child encountered a human child crying alone in the snow.
Curious and still young by fae standards, the fae child approached her and asked, plainly and without guile, what troubled her. The girl explained that her family had failed to find deer that season. Without meat, they would not survive the winter.
Unversed in the full danger of human bargains, the fae child extended a paw and proposed a deal.
It would give them one of its cattle, deer which the faerie folk tend as humans tend livestock, in exchange for being welcomed into their home and treated as one of their own.
The girl, unaware of the risks of accepting fae offers, agreed without hesitation.
Fortunately, the fae child’s intentions were pure.
Before her eyes, the fox shed its disguise and reshaped itself into its true form: a young boy with fiery red hair, dark pointed fox ears, and a bushy red tail. It guided the girl to a nearby herd and brought down a single deer with a snap of its fingers — cleanly and without suffering.
That night, they dragged the carcass home together.
The girl’s family reacted with a mix of relief and terror. Though they accepted the food, they drove the fae child away, fearing what it was. The child protested bitterly, and while the fae child obeyed, it did not leave entirely.
Instead, it lingered beneath the house, where the girl secretly made it a warm nest of furs and blankets.
Over time, through repeated winters, shared meals, and quiet acts of protection, the family’s fear softened. The fae child was given a bed, then a seat at the table, and then a name.

Linnea outlived its beloved partner, then its children, and then most of their descendants. Generations blurred and vanished while Linnea remained unchanged, bound to a body that would never grow old enough to match its sorrow.

Linnea’s children were never immortal, nor were they powerful in the way he was. They lived ordinary human lives, aged normally, and passed on as all humans do. Whatever fae blood they carried was already muted from the beginning, never manifesting as magic or divinity.
What endured instead was subtle. Many of Linnea’s descendants felt a quiet pull toward the forest and the moors, even generations later. Some chose to live near the tree line, worked as hunters, shepherds, or caretakers of land, or found themselves restless in crowded places. This was not a calling they could explain, only a preference that felt natural to them.
A few were slightly more sensitive to their surroundings than most. They noticed changes in weather early, felt uneasy in places where something was wrong, or found comfort in silence and open land. These traits were mild and easily dismissed as temperament or upbringing. Over time, as families moved away and memories faded, even these tendencies became less common.

I don’t think they’re a suitable LI considering… uh… that. Plus I think they fit the role of a tired parental or guardian figure a lot better. Although, I don’t have issues with people treating them like an LI. Just personally, for me, they’re still hesitant to establish a bond with mortals knowing that human life is fleeting and it will just end up hurting both of them.
Clothing can change. Heck, optional even bec they spend most of their time frolicking around in their fox form anyways. Shape-shifting doesn’t apply to clothing especially without specific materials and enchantments. (I love nerfing shape shifting abilities with possibility of bodily injuries via tangled clothing ♥︎. But also like, the imagery of a fox carrying a whole rolled blanket is kinda funny and odd)
Body type for both male and female versions are pretty sleek? Long torso and limbs, built but has an elegant taper to them. Idk. Something I have in mind are Na’vi body types. I will definitely work on it later.
Ignited and extinguished states are dependent on environment and emotions. Heightened emotions ignite, low or depressive emotions extinguish.
Clothing: hunting outfit, sometimes includes cloak but is often dyed a dark color to blend into the darkness during night hunts + trousers under. Otherworld outfit has drapery (fabric similar to liquid organza) and intricate silver jewelry. Both outfits may incorporate the white shawl their partner made for them. Can wear anything — mostly just wears a tunic or shirt with their cloak, trousers, and boots. I might draw more outfits for them next time, I have design block rn TwT
Actually has an effective human disguise they like to call “Deirdre”. Past shoulder-length, Ash brown hair often tied in a low ponytail or half-up, half-down. Wears round glasses, kept their golden-amber eyes. Adapts and blends in so well with humans you wouldn’t even notice them.
“How are they with Gwylan?” Idk, they’re just glad to know there’s another foxfolk, even tho Gwyn’s not a síddhe like them, in town. They do share a common interest in collecting trinkets and sharing intel, etc... Linnea also buys gear occasionally from Gwyn’s shop. Has a positive impression of Gwyn and Eden. (Yes ik, I do dislike current Gwylan but I refuse to let my opinions affect my writing and character interactions wwww.)
They have a lot of rules with what or how they eat. Faerie rules, iykyk. But they really love to eat yew berries which are always abundant during winter.
Title: Apricity (warmth felt during winter) because that’s what they are. Linnea only comes to the human world during winter, and during that time they try to guide, care for, and provide for people in the forest and moors. They are their sense of comfort and warmth, and that’s what led them to be worshipped by regular travelers and hunters in the first place. To humans back then, any entity that shows kindness and care is worthy of their worship.
Invoking the wild hunt: (note: Linnea doesn’t lead or name targets, they call and ensure it doesn’t spill to excess) instrument of choice is a whistle carved from crystallized leywood (leylines that exist between the otherworld and the human world). The sound is sharp, high, and directional. Plus, it carries far in cold air. Linnea confirms imbalance → They step out of human sight → Blood offered → The whistle activates blood glyph → Once the land answers, only then does Linnea speak (define limits and purpose, no dictating targets or mentioning names). No blood=no authority, the blood does not “power” the ritual; it names the caller as accountable. Blood glyph mechanism: the glyph already exists in the land, the blood marks it as active, and the whistle aligns the ley current so the glyph can open. Important: The whistle alone does nothing. The glyph alone does nothing. The blood alone does nothing. Together tho, they allow passage.

I actually planned to be back in January, but I ran into some technical issues— blue screens galore! (I’d been dealing with them since last year, but they weren't so frequent then.) I ended up taking my PC in for repairs, which took longer than expected, and I thought the problem was finally fixed… but then, just yesterday, another blue screen 😭 It’s driving me crazy! This is my headcanon, which I wanted to write about in the last post, but decided to make a new one (Initially, I wanted to write about how Cornelia was greatly changed by tf). Then I thought it would be more interesting to format the text as pages from some weird cryptid encyclopedia. English is not my native language, so I hope everything I wrote doesn't sound too bad.
I'm a sucker for dark, creepy stuff, so I like the idea that TFs are not something sweety-vanilla and are not caused by some ✧magic✧... But something unsettling, something that was caused by strange creature that lives rent-free in PC's head. So my headcanon ends up being a bit like ear slime, but less controlling.
I was inspired by the anime "Haibane Renmei", where the growth and appearance of wings was not a very pleasant process. And also, by the manga and anime "×××HOLiC", the part with the parasitic wings that grew on the girl's back and influenced her mind while absorbing her soul.
