          his elbows land on the counter.  he pushes himself up to look over it, like, at the actual behind-the-scenes shit.  it’s kind of like seeing a magician palm a coin ’cause you’re standing behind him while he does it.  ‘ hey.  how bout a coffee. ’

(  the face emily expects to see is definitely not snafu shelton’s. but here the motherfucker is, in all his troublesome glory. and, to be honest, she’s been kind of worried. not fully or consumingly so. but mildly enough that it’s bothered her. like a hangnail , or an itchy patch of dry skin.  )

      ‘ it happens, ’ he smiles. it’s a real non-threatening, handsome guy kind of smile. the usual when it comes to teddy, then. they don’t really let him do much else. he takes a step forward in order to lend her a hand, and of course makes a little light conversation in the meantime. ‘ there’s a trick to it, see– fitting everything in? it’s like a puzzle. ’ 

‘  i was never good at puzzles. much more of a start with the big picture, deconstruct from there kinda girl.

(  he’s so lifelike. it takes her a moment to realize that he’s a host. in better terms, a robot. god, how fascinating. she wants to reach out and touch him, but that seems rude.  )
