âBillâs my brother. So, so of course I donât trust him. First he says that I am not Unit Zero material. Next, he says that being a bounty hunter is dangerous work and that I should just work for the government or something. But enough about my wonky family.â Skie said.Â
She soon took Helen to the docks. This was were all the airships were located. It was more like a floating hanger bay above the clouds. It was somewhat of a gut wrenching sight.Â
She then pointed to her blue racer, the Ethereal. âShe is my baby. Fastest racer in this sector. Yeah, I know. I do gambling, racing, and bounty hunting. Iâm a risk taker. Maybe, an idiot. Doesnât steer me wrong too often.â Skie said.Â
âSo you said, you had one of your own? Is it one youâre renting or does Earth actually make good airships?â Skie asked. Â
Bill was a family matter with somebody Helen barely knew, so she did not comment upon that, instead following the other girl quietly.
âI donât do the racing part,â Helena commented as she looked at the blue racer, âdespite the name of our ships. She looks pretty good, but youâll have ter slow down a bit fer mine, probably.â Helena seemed unbothered by the height and floating hangar as she pointed towards another racer, this one green, what paint hadnât been scratched away at least. It was bigger and bulkier, visibly more armoured and rather scratched up. Its rear engine assembly was absurdly large. âThatâs my girl. Iâm not a good judger on the qualities of racers, but she can take a hit. She was advertised as the âultimate victory in thrust over aerodynamics,â and in my experience, sheâs got quite a kick ter the engines. Just doesnât keep that speed very well.â
Helenaâs model was rugged and easy to maintain, being such a simple design it was obvious. For those who wanted survivability and ease of maintenance, it was a good racer, so it fit Helena well. However, it was not too manoeuvrable, and not too aerodynamic either, depending on extremely powerful engines. Â If it had to turn at all, it instantly lost all speed.
âCould probably give you a run fer your money in a drag race, gadgie. Add in any kind of turn, Iâm left in your dust. I own her. Been using her fer a couple years, now, and she hasnât let me down yet.â But it sounded like the racer didnât have a name.
