Here’s an example of what I mean when I say that Hori has been retconning the story to minimize Endv’s abuse (and also using Dabi as a scapegoat to do so). The most explicit example of this is that Hori deliberately tried to retcon the timeline of Endv’s abuse to make it appear like it was it was ultimately Touya’s “death” that caused the breakdown of the Todoroki family as opposed to it just being solely the fault of Endv’s abuse.

This is Hori trying to downplay Endv’s abuse and make him appear sympathetic because, well it’s hard not to have sympathy for a man grieving the death of his son, right? After all, it was apparently his “grief” that caused him to abuse his family, which makes him seem a lot less abusive doesn’t it? Except this completely contradicts what was already previously established. I highly doubt this was a completely unintentional “mistake” on Hori’s part, since he’s been retconning Endv ever since his redemption arc began. Unfortunately for him, a lot of other fans noticed this as well, and the official MHA twitter has acknowledged this as a mistake that will be fixed in the vol. release and that the timeline that Fuyumi mentioned in (250) is the correct one.

So, sorry to all of the Endv apologists. Endv is still the piece of shit he’s always been. Touya’s death’s didn’t escalate Endv’s abuse, and Endv had already caused Rei’s breakdown before he died. Touya’s death had nothing to do with it.
