I’m literally scared to come up and say what I’m about to say on a different platform other than tumblr, so here it goes. “ The Tortured Poets Department “ is not giving!!! I've been trying to like Taylor Swift and her music for some time now. While I appreciate her lyrical talent, this new album feels somewhat forced and rushed. I had high hopes for April 19, expecting something extraordinary, but the new album only proves my point. Each song sounds too similar, lacking uniqueness, with repetitive melodies and notes. The only song that does it for me at this point is “ My boy only breaks his favorite toys “ I do have to say , I preferred her previous re-releases; they surpass her recent albums for me. And before anyone says anything about me not understanding her lyrics, I have to disagree. I've grown up with Taylor's music, I loved everything she put out there up until recently. I anticipated something more akin to "Folklore/Evermore" in terms of both lyrics and melody, given the vibe and aesthetic. I mean, where does your mind go when you hear “ The Tortured Poets Department “ ? Maybe it is her, or maybe my tastes have shifted over the years, making hers less appealing to me now.
