Even now, Oikawa continues to scrutinize Ushijima with sharp, calculating eyes. He drinks up every movement the other makes, every breath and every shift that carried the potential to show him more of Ushijima’s current weakness. For a moment, Oikawa nearly feels intoxicated with the power that he could feel at his fingertips. For once, he could come out on top.

It doesn’t last for long.

Ushijima’s voice is what has him snapping out of his thoughts and he’s reminded about just why he can’t stand being around him; however, the moment that Ushijima is stepping towards him, Oikawa is drawing himself up and it’s a clear challenge towards the taller male. It takes everything he has to not bare his teeth and instead, he merely allows his smile to become feral. It’s unsightly, he knows, but Ushijima has an uncanny ability to bring out the worst in him.

“Are you threatening me?” He spits out with a laugh as his fingers curl into white-knuckled fists, “My my Ushiwaka-chan. How utterly /bold/.”  And this time, he’s the one taking a step forward, “I have nothing to worry about if you’re losing your touch. What bad timing too. Something like this happening in your third year must be absolutely devastating~.”

“I am not losing my touch. Even if it was true, Shiratorizawa would still be able to beat you. You should have joined.” he repeated time and time again, but the other never showed signs of regret. In fact, he could see the hatred and determination in his eyes. He didn’t understand what was going on through Oikawa’s mind.

The distance between them became small when Oikawa mimicked his action and took a step closer. This was another battle he would not let himself lose. The shorter male was definitely tenacious; always struggling against the current, despite knowing that he’ll drown anyway. It was that kind of determination Ushijima thought of as stupid and useless.

“You should be careful, Oikawa. I’m not the one with an injured knee.” he firmly spoke, trying not to slouch his hurt shoulder too much. The last thing he wanted was for Oikawa to find out, even if he had a feeling he already knew. “You should have given up the moment you refused to join me.”

She was certain that he heard his name once again. The girl then told hers as well. “Okay.. I’m Riku Wakahisa.”

Wow so I hit 200 followers the other day, holy shit. I remember making this blog on a whim about two months ago, thinking I’d hardly have anyone to write with because the last community I was in didn’t treat OCs very well. But the Haikyuu roleplay community is so accepting and treats OCs amazingly and skhsjdhgsdg. I’m so thankful to anyone who has done a thread with me, or something crack, or even just spoken to me OOC — or even if you haven’t spoken to me, it’s nice to see you following for Katsumi. Honestly, this sounds like a big ball of cheese, but I absolutely adore each and every one of you, you’re all amazing! So, in advance, I apologise if I miss anyone off this list, but I’m so thankful for you all. The people I mention are those who have made my time here super fantastic and I’m really glad to have had the chance to talk/RP/plot with.

Already, Oikawa can feel the prickles of irritation that spread across his neck no matter how he interacts with Ushijima. It would probably benefit the team if he just went inside and continued what he had come there to do. It would be useful to see just how Shiratorizawa played without their current ace there and would likely help serve Seijou for when the third years were no longer around; however, Oikawa was never one to pass up such a rare opportunity as this.

Spying was nothing new, but this, this was. If Ushijima had some sort of injury as he suspected, then he was going to exploit it as he would any weakness. Oikawa’s eyes darken as his smile grows ever more dangerous with the knowledge that he was gathering from just watching the other. Sports injuries were tricky things and he knew this all too well.

“Why I’m here isn’t important, but I think that the fact that you are is~. Are you finally losing your touch?” He pauses in order to tsk at the other as if he was scolding a child, “Really, if you continue on this path, you’ll be left behind.” It was a promise thinly veiled as a threat.

Ushijima was wrong to have thought that Oikawa had changed - he was still childish and immature as ever, and even if he wasn’t one to usually notice when people tried to get under his skin, Oikawa was definitely doing that. And succeeding. He took a deep breath, trying to calm his nerves. He felt exposed - like he was the other’s weak prey, though he wouldn’t show it. He was Ushijima Wakatoshi, after all.

“Losing my touch?” he would have let out a snort at that if he wasn’t feeling so frustrated. What a dumb joke. “You are the one who should be careful.” he quietly spoke, voice dangerously low as he took a step closer towards the other, the grip on his bag loosening in the process. 

“Don’t you have anything better to do? The match is still going on; you can go do your spying. You’ll definitely need it.” he retorted instead, trying to not let Oikawa’s words get to him. It wouldn’t do him any good, he was sure of it, yet his emotional state was already in a bad condition without the other’s presence there. Maybe he really was losing his touch...

She was trying to draw the other, while they were in a stationary position, trying the essence of their physical appearance. “Almos’h done,” she informed the other, not even sure if they knew she was drawing them. They would now, at least.

There was confusion written across his features as he slightly tilted his head to the side, unaware of the little girl’s action, though it was a nice change - most kids usually avoided him. “What are you doing?”

Admittedly, Oikawa was aware that the last place he wanted to be was at the Shiratorizawa match. No matter how often he watched their matches, analyzed their plays and made plays to counter them, the other team always seemed to come out on top. It frustrated the brunette to no ends and yet he was there, about to make his way inside.

What he didn’t expect was to see Ushijima walking out, looking less than perfect. It set Oikawa on edge yet he can’t stop the sharp smile that twists his lips upwards. There were only so many reasons that the ace was not in the game and Oikawa knew this as a concrete fact; however, from the way that Ushijima was tying to ignore him and just how he was holding himself, Oikawa could only come to one conclusion.

There were signs there that Oikawa knew all too well.

“What this?” Oikawa starts and even if he’s speaking with his normal playful lilt, it’s harsh, dangerous and knowing underneath, “Are my eyes deceiving me or are you leaving the game awfully early Ushiwaka-chan.”

“Oikawa.”

His voice was low (even lower than usual) hinting a bit of tiredness in it. Was it a threat or a greeting? Ushijima himself didn’t know, but he was sure that Oikawa wouldn’t let him go so easily. Subconsciously clutching his bag even tighter, feeling the sting of his shoulder, he dully stared at the other hoping he would pick his frustration and leave him alone. Although a big part of him doubted something like that would happen. 

“Shiratorizawa doesn’t need me to win this match.” he cautiously spoke, aware that the other most likely knew why he was leaving so early, yet he still avoided talking about it. “What are you doing here?” he decided to retaliate instead, curiosity getting the better of him. Was Oikawa finally regretting not joining Shiratorizawa? Or was he there just to spy? It was the later, definitely, though he still hoped it would be the first.

“Ushijima, huh? Well, you’re last name has ‘Waka’ in it!”, she said. The tall girl pointed at the other, and then at herself after saying his last name. “Wakatoshi, and Wakahisa! We’re both Waka-chan!”

“I see. You do have a point.” he cautiously spoke. “I am Ushijima Wakatoshi.”

Priorities was something that Masako had a hard time trying to categorize. Obviously, according to Keiichi anyway, it was a good idea to put yourself first. So things like academics and health go at the top somewhere. Then came the club and everyone on the team. Helping stray cats and dogs, animals in general really, should have been placed on the very far end of the list. Yet, if you were to see Masako’s priorities, everything was lined up next to one another. Essentially, taking care of the team was on the same level as helping this stray cat down from the tree ( sorry Ushijima-san, but you’re on the same level as this cat ). The strawberry blond stared down at her captain, chewing on her bottom lip. “A-are you sure?” Of course he was sure. This was Ushijima Wakatoshi! He is Japan’s Number One! He could do anything and Ushijima-san was sure to keep his word no matter what.

At the mention of the team seeing her stuck in a tree, her cheeks flared a bright red. “W-well… no.” That’d be five times more embarrassing when the rest of the team were to return… When Ushijima mentions the possibility of the cat coming down from the tree, she instantly perks right back up. “He will?” She gives a quick look at the stranded feline, who looked back at her rather dubiously. “Okay!” Although, it’s easier said than done. She slowly lets go of the branch and swings her leg over so she’s sitting on the branch rather than clinging onto it for dear life. “H-here I go!” And she closes her eyes and pushes herself off.

Ushijima took a deep breath to try and hold his frustration in upon hearing her question; deciding to lift his arms even further instead. If someone had told him a situation like this would have happened - he definitely wouldn’t have believe them. But here he was, arms spread, waiting for his manager in distress. When she finally jumped, he easily caught her and held her bridal style, looking down at her. “It wasn’t that scary, right?” he dully spoke, kneeling down in the process so that he could properly release her. The moment she got off, he stood up again, folding his arms across his chest and giving her a somewhat judging look.

“Shiratorizawa’s manager shouldn’t be doing things like this. What if the coach had seen you? You’d get in trouble.” he cautiously said, looking behind him in case said person was standing there. Much to his relief, though, there was no one there even if he could see a part of his team still jogging in the distance. The last thing he wanted was for him to get into trouble because of someone else, especially after it happened with two certain Karasuno memebers. “Just... be more careful. I won’t always be here to save you.”

Having to sit out games wasn’t something that often happened (and wouldn’t happen in the future) but it was still enough to ruin his mood. Considering the good care he took of his body, it was a surprise to both him and his whole team when his spikes started lacking power, followed by a small tugging on the side of his shoulder. Not wanting to injure himself, the coach told him he was done for the day. 

As much as Ushijima would have liked to see the outcome of the game, not that it would be anything different other than Shiratorizawa dominating yet again, he had decided to head home. Just as he exited the gym, though, he saw the last person he had expected to be there - Oikawa. He stopped in his tracks, staring at him, right hand gripping his bag instead of the usual left one, his jersey hastily put on. He hoped the other would just ignore him - he wasn’t in a mood for Oikawa at all - and he definitely didn’t want to see him like that.

“Huh? Of course I’m not as good as Oikawa. He’s a very good setter, I’d love to play like him.”
