Off to See Rocks on Water
Spontaneity did it! During our last hoorah before joining the real world, we had a semi-planned (whut?) trip to Marabut, Samar to swim and see the rock formations. The place was actually near to our city that it only takes a two-hour ride to get there. Although we were still tired and kinda hung over cause we probably drank our souls out the night before, as always.
Surprisingly we stopped by a random house along the way. It was that place’s fiesta so we happily ate free food. Apparently the house was not that random cause it was actually our friend’s classmate’s house (ano daw? haha). We didn’t take a picture of the house na kasi it was too much too eat there unknown and do a photoshoot out on their front yard pa.
The wheels of the multicab went round and round then next stop, Basey! Just a few kilometers from our destination.
Our drive from Basey to Marabut actually felt like we are already in the resort. You can see a lot of rock formations on the sides of the road and on the sea; pair them with the green trees and the favorable weather. It was a legit vacay! Just a few songs and laughs after, we finally arrived at Caluwayan Beach Resort, Marabut, Samar!
The place is amazing! I mean, just look at the view (oh, and our faces too haha).
This resort was hit by Yolanda (Typhoon Haiyan) and a lot of their properties and trees broke. But no worries, they are rapidly rehabilitating and is ready to give tourists and locals the fun they deserve.
Apparently there is a cave (or two) that surrounds the resort. A local approached us and offered us a tour however we sticked to our original plan to enjoy the islets and the waters.
Hopped in to fun with the two reasonably priced motorboats we rented. A boat can seat a maximum of five people so we divided our group to two: to the people who wants to swim in the middle of the ocean; and the person who insists to stay dry with the person who only sinks in water cause he doesn’t know how to swim (that’s me haha).
We painted the sea red and filled it with fun. We wanted to go to a famous rock formation there but the guide told us that it’s too far and we will not have the extra time to enjoy swimming in the ocean, by we I mean they.
The boat’s engine stopped because it’s time to check something off of everyone’s bucket list. In the middle of the ocean and the rock formations were two boats filled with people ready to take a plunge (and those who wants to stay still).
Our guide/boat operator was nice that he actually volunteered to steer the whole boat for me to get the best shots. He was very friendly and fun. He told us some jokes, sang songs, and gave us the best pieces of advice to enjoy the place. Basically, everything we need in a vacation. I never got his name tho.
It could have been fun to swim there but looking at them and seeing the view is as fun for me. It may not seem that we are in the super deep part of the sea in the pictures but trust me we were. I was overwhelmed with the clear waters that lets you see the rocks and fishes below.

Kinda tired and needed to recharge for a whole new adventure later that day. Look at my friend relaxing on the boat. Never thought you could sleep in the middle of the sea like that, huh? Well, now you know it’s possible.
Travelling and choosing your own tourist spots is never a bad choice. It’s way easier and cheaper; plus, you find yourself amazed and proud of what you have.
The rock formations were awesome and so interesting. There are also other things there that we weren’t able to do, prolly another reason to revisit the place. There are also canoeing, snorkeling, the cave, and the actual amenities of the resort. Hope to visit more places in Samar with awesome people! TORPEDO of Ulot River, Paranas next?
