To say that Kyle and Dan hated each other was overstating things. Lots of people just thought that was the case. But really, Kyle and Dan just didn’t like each other very much. On paper they seemed like the perfect match to be room-mates in college. They both liked sports, Kyle was on the swim team, Dan played football. They were both very intelligent, top of their respective classes. Dan was studying pharmaceuticals whilst Kyle was in engineering. But for whatever reason, they just didn’t click; nor did their respective friends. Dan hung out with the meat-head football crowd, whilst Kyle’s social life revolved around the pool. Kyle thought Dan was an overly excitable, hedonistic football player, whilst Dan thought Kyle was a stuck up, over anxious kill-joy. There was never a bad word said between either of them; there just weren’t many good ones either.
Whilst the two boys were a similar height, Dan was a beefed up football player who didn’t make a fuss downing a lot of beer on a night out; Kyle on the other hand, was a slim, toned guy with a swimmer’s physique and very careful about what he ate.
It was winter and Dan was fed up of listening to Kyle mope on about his midterms. The guy hadn’t taken a break from his desk in days. He needed to relax a little before he drove Dan crazy.
‘Are you studying - again?’ asked Dan, frustrated. He hadn’t been allowed to use his stereo in ages and Kyle never seemed to leave the room any more.
‘Yeah, midterms are only three weeks away!’ Kyle shot back with all the urgency of someone racing to catch a bus.
‘Yes, Kyle. Three weeks away. THREE WEEKS AWAY! If you’re this stressed out now, how the hell are you going to be when they’re here?’ Kyle looked up ready to speak, a panicked expression on his face. ‘Don’t answer that!’ Dan insisted. ‘But seriously, buddy, chill out already’.
