Updated full budget from today. Let us know if you have questions and we can ask someone on budget committee to pass them along!
Benefits of following the UTSU CFS AGM tumblr
Join us in our latest social media escapade: live-blogging the Annual General Meeting of CFS-National and (hopefully) racking up some notes.
Our delegates, Jasmine Denike, Daman Singh, and Ben Coleman are live blogging their way through this meeting of the Canadian Federation of Students, a student union of student unions (so meta!) using the excellent platform of tumblr. So why should you follow along?
1. Awesome Images and Stuff
Don’t you just love bashing annoying Globe and Mail columnist Margaret Wente? We do, and we took a photo of it. Maybe there will be videos or audio in the future. Who knows! It’ll be like you’re really with us in sunny Gatineau.
2. Follow Along with Motions
If you go to http://utsu98.tumblr.com/Motions, then you can see all the motions on the Agenda for consideration. If debate happens about motions in committees, we’ll make more posts that will show up in the feed for each motion.
You can check out the feed for our own motion, to reduce the number of signatures needed for a petition to decertify here.
3. Ask us Questions
Want to know more about the CFS, or know more about items on the agenda? Submit a question at http://utsu98.tumblr.com/ask and we’ll answer it! (No guarantees for trolls unless the question is really, really funny.)
4. Submit your own Posts
We have no idea why we added this option, but if you do, show us by submitting a post to go up on the tumblr at http://utsu98.tumblr.com/submit. A great way to grab some of that coveted “student union fame.”
5. Follow us on Twitter
Twitter is where all the action happens! Follow us by checking our profiles on http://utsu98.tumblr.com/delegates or searching for #fcee15. Feel free to tweet us with questions too (or send us email) if tumblr questions are not your thing.
Happy social media times!
~Ben
At the current issues forum. Gotta love some critical analysis of Margaret Wente's ramblings
Awesome!

Agenda for the 34th annual national general meeting of the #cfsfcee #fcee15
Your delegates are off! Don't they look excited?
First draft of the budget for CFS-National, as provided in the agenda package.
Motion to create a working group to examine the state of French post-secondary education in Canada
Whereas the quality of French post-secondary education varies from one institution to the other; and
Whereas some students who enrolled in a programme in French end up having to complete the programme in English; and
Whereas the members of the Francophone Students Constituency Group and the Bilingualism Forum have had several discussions about the importance of accessible post-secondary education for francophone students; therefore,
Be it resolved that a working group be created to examine the state of post-secondary education in French in Canada.
Motion to fast-track a Campaigns information portal
Whereas the Federation is composed of member local students' unions; and
Whereas the member local students' unions create complimentary and original Federation campaigns; and
Whereas the Federation is stronger when we are united and in solidarity; Whereas open access to information is valued in the Federation; therefore
Be it resolved that the Federation fast-track and launch an information portal that includes, blogs, video posting, messaging, graphic design and other relevant materials.
Motion to equalize the petition threshold for certification and decertification
Whereas individual members have the right to start petitions to enter and leave the Federation; and
Whereas the threshold to start a vote to certify is ten percent (10%) of students and the threshold to start a vote to decertify is twenty percent (20%) of students; and
Whereas the decertification petition requires double the amount of signatures compared to the certification petition; and
Whereas the amount of signatures required to start a decertification petition is unreasonably high for larger Locals to obtain; and
Whereas the decertification process nevertheless entails a democratic referendum posed to a membership following the petition; and
Whereas members have the right to accessible, democratic bylaws; therefore
Be it resolved that the bylaws be amended such that a petition to start a vote on decertification can be called by fifteen percent (15%) of members; and
Be it further resolved that Bylaw 1.3 a. iii be amended to read as follows:
The students collectively belonging to a local student association will have sole authority to initiate a vote on decertification, as described in Bylaw I, Section 6, by submitting to the National Executive of the Federation a petition, signed by not less than fifteen percent (15%) of such students, calling for the vote.
Be it further resolved that Bylaw 1.6 be amended to reflect this change and that the first paragraph of Bylaw 1.6 be amended to read as follows:
As per Bylaw I, Section 3.a.iii a petition calling for a vote on decertification shall be signed by no less than fifteen percent (15%) of the students collectively belonging to the member local student association and delivered to the National Executive of the Federation.
Be it further resolved that any other reference to this threshold in any operating documents or publications of the Federation be amended to reflect this change
